Mini getaway

You know that I like to get away whenever I can, and for some crazy reason nowadays, I’ve been enjoying visiting NYC. It’s really not so crazy when you come to think about it, but if you knew me in my prior life, you’d know that the Big City always frightened me a bit. I mean, there are so many people and tall buildings, and confusing streets, and numbers of reasons to stay as far away as possible. But these days, one of our sons lives there, and I have a friend I met blogging who lives there. Other friends I’ve met through blogging live close enough that it’s just a quick trip in.

We were invited by Daryl for lunch and she had made reservations at the Atlantic Grill on West 64th St. just off Broadway at Lincoln Center.

This place has great food, and it’s less than a block from Central Park which is straight ahead in the photo above. Lincoln Center is behind and across the street from where I am standing.

Happy Valentine’s Day ~

Inside, at the bar, we met our friends who had driven down from CT as well as Daryl’s sister. The place was packed but the wait was worth it.

Apologies to non-sushi lovers.

But it was so good.

It was dark inside and I had to turn my ISO up way high, hence the noise (grain) in the inside photos.

After lunch, Reena and I headed back to Penn Station to catch the train home. I shot a few pictures through the window of the cab but other than that, my camera wasn’t out much. Traffic got so congested that the driver dropped us off about a block away from the train station because the cab wasn’t even moving at that point. Luckily we weren’t in any hurry.

B&H Photo on 9th between 33rd & 34th Sts. Some day I’m going to visit this place. I have a couple of gift cards that I’ve never used.

I love sconces.

Hope you enjoyed my quick jaunt to the city. Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Mmmm... sushi... looks like a wonderful time. I haven't been to NYC in over 20 years. Next year might be it.... I would be able to stay away from B&H!

So how quick is the ride there by train? That is very cool. Kate you're looking really thin (and elegantly dressed too)! I spied a heart in your latte didn't I? I'm so glad you do these things, I really enjoy getting a glimpse of your fun getaways to the city. xo ~Lili

Alexandra and I went to dinner tonight, and on our mini bucket list was to jump on a train and head down to NYC. We used to do it regularly, and with Kenny's illness, we haven't in years.
Next week we are looking for a show to see, and booking tickets...
Seeing your pictures has given be the bug!!!

I would love just to be able to jump on a train and head to New York! That's one of the things I miss about Europe - just jump on a train and you're in a new country!

You all look just as fun as the time you are having! Love your scarf - and the fact that you're posting more lovely photos of yourself.

That sushi is to die for! Now that we are closer to NYC, I'm hoping for many day trips into the city. You can be sure that Atlantic Grill will be on one of my first lists!

Thanks for sharing.

Your pics always make me want to get over my fear and get to NYC! I am amazed that there weren't any people on the street when you took that first shot .... My vision of NYC is wall to wall people.
Love your pics!

I still cant believe you were ever nervous about coming to NYC but I do remember your first taxi ride so different from the one back in December (or was it January) when we went to Robert and you gave the driver directions!!!!

The more I visit NYC the more in love I fall. I am finally getting to explore some of the boros, etc and not jsut mid-town, although that is still my favorite.

I love the photos of your quick trip, but I LOVE ---absolutely love ---the picture of you and your friends. You look so happy. That's is a part of life I wish I had again...I hope I can find a way to broaden that in my life once more. I used to have it, and it seems that health problems have just stolen it. So--enjoy your friends, and I know they're enjoying you as well.

You have to promise me something Kate...if I ever get to New York, you´ll come and spend a day with me and show me around? OK? I´m a bit like you, the city makes me a little nervous but I think if I got the hang of it after being there with someone who knows where to go and where to stay away from that I would probably be like a kid in a candy store and enjoy myself immensely :-))) I´ve certainly had a blast in Rome and Paris after I figured out how to get around and where to go and so on...
Have a great Saturday my friend :-)
