In a nutshell

It’s Sunday morning and I’m home from my road trip to visit friends in CT. I’m enjoying one of my favorite shows on TV as I write this. I don’t know how many years it’s been since I began watching Sunday Morning on CBS, but it’s one of my favorite rituals I. Some Sundays, I have other things to do. But I usually catch at least part of an episode.

I took a lot of photos over the past few days and haven’t really had time to edit them much, so for what it’s worth, here’s my excursion in a nutshell.

That sounds funny ~ like I’ve been inside a nutshell.

Please at least try to contain your excitement here.

I took a walk in a park across the street from Lauren’s house where we came across this interesting cairn. Apparently, there is a gentleman who secretly builds these when he walks his dog. No one in the neighborhood knows who he is, and I cannot figure out how he got this one to balance like this. It’s pretty darn amazing.

I took photos of ducks feeding on the bottom of the little creek that winds through the park. Synchronized swimmers.

I ate dessert . . .

. . . at this tiny little restaurant.

Lunch was a memorable event.

I shopped for pansies.

And drove down George Avenue.

It made me miss my pup.

But I had these two lovelies to pet . . .

Sweet Dora is Lauren’s girl.

And the stunning Stella belongs to Annie.

Cocktails on Annie’s deck in the late afternoon.

Isn’t her view amazing?

I like oatmeal.

It was great to get away . . .

. . . but it’s also wonderful to be home.

Because that’s where my heart lies.

More to come. Enjoy your week, my friends ~

It's funny that the rock creation and the duck's behinds kind of go together artistically!

Fun series of photos and you had me at dessert. Yum! Lauren and Annie's dogs are gorgeous critters, like your George. And it's always great to see some of my other favourite bloggers featured in photos.

That's my problem. It looked lovely.

Wow my friend that is some nutshell!! You taught me something, the word Cairn. I have seen these on mountain tops I´ve visited here in Norway (none that have a rock balancing so amazingly as the one in your photo but still) but I never knew what to call them in English except a bunch of rocks piled together. I was told people leave them as markers that they´ve been there. The mountain tops are covered with them in all sizes and shapes. So now I know that word, thanks!
Those fur babies were just too cute and that beautiful tree outside the building in New York- WOW. Oh and girl...what was in that desert, was trying to figure that one out...looks heavenly. Speaking of heavenly, the little schoolhouse restaurant (which looks like a small Norwegian church) looked very interesting, thanks for the link which I´ll check out, I doubt I´ll ever get there for a meal, but I´ve learned one should never say never in life....
Have a great week ahead! :-)))

It is good to get out with friends but sometimes, for me, it is such an effort. I envy your ability to do this.

Beautiful pictures and what a great adventure.

love the shots; jealous of your weekend... sounds so fun...

but impressed that you used he word cairn. Seriously never heard of it beside the city in AUS. Your knowledge of things never ceases to amaze me.... seriously. so thanks for the beauty and education!!

and although I could figure it out through the context (I do have a couple of brain cells that work) I looked it up and here I will post for those of us who don't know it:

Cairn is a term used mainly in the English-speaking world for a man-made pile (or stack) of stones. It comes from the Scottish Gaelic: càrn (plural càirn). Cairns are found all over the world in uplands, on moorland, on mountaintops, near waterways and on sea cliffs, and also in barren desert and tundra areas. They vary in size from small stone markers to entire artificial hills, and in complexity from loose, conical rock piles to delicately balanced sculptures and elaborate feats of megalithic engineering. Cairns may be painted or otherwise decorated, e.g. for increased visibility or for religious reasons.

Looks like you enjoyed a lovely weekend! I would love to live on the water, but I suppose I'll have to be content with my new birdbath fountain! Have a great week!

Wow--thanks for sharing all that! I have no idea where to start! The dessert? The oatmeal? (I love it, too!) The rocks that the mystery man builds. (Can anyone say, "Crop Circles??") The little restaurant--what a charming little place--Lauren-I want to live near you!. Then Dora and Stella? ABSOLUTELY CHARMING! No more than our GEORGE, of course--that is already assumed!
Whew--I am just overwhelmed with what I should not be---E.N.V.Y. at your fun getaway. Then I think how much you deserve it so much-- that the envy slides away and my joy for you comes in it's place.
I am so so very happy that you will share your excursions with your dear friends and that you've found such a diverse collection of blogging sisters!
I guess what I am most envious of right at this moment....is..., okay, I'll say it: how Daryl looks in those jeans--long, skinny legs (which "go all the way from her a$$ to the floor!")and that long beautiful silver hair! Ohhhhh! NOW, I can say E.N.V.Y. and thoroughly mean it! Please find more get-away shots to share! I am SUCH a voyeur!! ;) Take another get-away as soon as you can--I'll bet you're still sparkling from this one, Sparkle Girl!
