Rambling into infinity

Greetings from Maryland where the temps are hot, and the humidity is high. Actually, much of the Northeast is experiencing the same type of weather which is just in time for the start of summer.

We’ve had a beautiful spring, so I have no complaints here. Plus it’s Friday (woot!) and I have off from work. I have a few things planned for today but early morning was spent relaxing under the dogwood tree with a cup of coffee and watching the birds in the trees around the edge of the property. I brought the camera outside to let it acclimate to the weather so I could get a couple of macro shots to share with you.

First sunflower of the season. And it has a little visitor.

We have a lot of sunflowers.

And I have a new coffee mug for summertime.

The morning glories are blooming, too.

Morning Glories

First thing
summer mornings

I would come out
to the porch,
tiptoe down the steps,
pad barefoot
across the grass

stand behind the trellis
and look up to see
how many of her
morning glories
had opened.

They were so blue
and pure, beaded
with dew

as if miniature
gateways to the skies
had swayed open

allowing me
to ramble
into infinity.

What stunning pics! Feeling that same weather up here in NJ and have to say I am enjoying it, even if the plants are drooping a bit.

Love the new coffee mug. Great shape. And your coffee looks just like what I'm finishing now- lots of cream. (well, in my case, fat-free half and half)
Beautiful pictures. Jude's sunflower blossomed while we were there!
Have a relaxing and semi-productive day. Hope you are able to get in some water fun!

Hi there, Kate :) What action(s) did you use on the first sunflower pic? Gorgeous!

Country Girl said...

Thanks, everyone. Debra, it was beautiful morning light to start with. I used Florabella's Tea Time but brushed much of it off the sunflower itself. Then Kim Klassen's 'Sunday' texture, brushing off the sunflower, then Kim Klassen's 'February Magic Edges', another texture. Voila.

I adore morning glory but we can never grow it up here as it never gets warm enough. We have had over 50mm of rain in the last day and there is a gale blowing too.

Sounds like you found the perfect way to keep cool under your dogwood tree! The Sunflower is glorious, they are such a happy flower - I just love them! Great coffee mug too, love the colors, I have have to purchase one for myself. I like having a special cup!

We are in OOB, Maine, would you believe the temps have been in the 70's for the past few days! LOVE IT!!! No suffering here! Go inland a few miles and the temps rise dramatically!

Love the sunflower! I need to relax in the hammock this weekend, but some how I don't think that is going to happen. have a great weekend!!

I will look afresh at the sunflowers on the terrace now!
But my morning glory is still in the green and short phase and I worry that it won't bloom before we leave for the UK. I wonder why it is so slow to blossom when we have so much sun?
Another of life's mysteries.
Thank you for sharing your flowers with us

Glad to hear you have some unwind time. If you ever make a print for sale of that sunflower and bee photo--please announce it ?
All the photos you do are exceptional, but I have such a thing about sunflowers, and concern about honeybee colony collapse.

Thank you again for sharing your magnificent photography! I am a die hard fan of Sunflowers. They are the best flower out there in my opinion. Thank you for sharing those two lovely shots of them. The morning glories were beautiful too. Such vibrant colors you are able to catch!

Divine.. *sigh*
Grey and overcast here. Not in photo taking mood (unusually) - more in a watching "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' mood. Shame we don't have it!

I love your macro shots, Kate. I'm trying really hard to get some good ones but I just don't seem to have the right angle, the right light or the right image - I must study this more.

I wanted to point you to my blog post today, if you don't mind, because I've written about entering photography competitions and a little gripe I have with some of them. I'd love your opinion if you have a moment to spare.

Have a lovely weekend.

The photos keep getting better--love that last morning glory! what great color!
Wish I could get the macro, but I just haven't got the patience lately to concentrate on the settings to achieve that kind of excellence.
