Graduation from our school was this evening, and I'm up late tonight going through the pictures I've taken. I'm the unofficial school photographer, and I took lots of pictures today, but this one really touched me. To me, this exemplifies Graduation.
I've known Caroline and her family since she was just a little girl. And I have the honor of calling her mother, Mary, my friend. Caroline is the last in her family to graduate from our school and now that it's come to an end, I think I understand how her mother must feel just by looking at this picture.
I'll miss so many of these seniors, but even more importantly, I'll miss the families they're attached to. Things change and time marches on. And this is the reason I love being behind a camera lens. I love capturing these moments and giving them as gifts to people I love.

Isn't photography so...
cool that way?
That mother-daughter picture made me catch my breath. Beautiful.
Oh that picture sums it all up doesn't it? Love it.
That's an absolutely beautiful picture.
Heartwarming picture. You know I went to our school's graduation the other night. I didn't have one graduating but found myself crying anyway. Just knowing mine would be here this time next year and watching those other mothers cry really got to me.
A stunning picture. There's so much emotion going on in it. Wonderful!
So beautiful, Kate! So much happiness, and pride, and love, and an almost bittersweet quality. Really lovely.
xoxo,
Mary
Thank you. I knew you'd understand what I was trying to convey. And yes, photography IS SO COOL THAT WAY, Minna!
Mary, you've got every emotion in there that I was thinking of.
And Treasia, I've seen 10 graduations here at my school. I tear up at each one of them. And nearly cried at my own two sons. But parenting is the art of letting go, isn't it? It's difficult, but I'm learning.

Fantastic image of mother and daughter - especially of mother! I lover her expression - it is truly priceless...
Do you realize you have a gift for capturing excellent images??!
Life Magazine or Look Magazine never had better images that this one...
So... when are you going to talk to some publisher about putting together a coffee table book of your images?????? (Okay, first get an agent, then start talking...!)
If you think I am kidding, I am not...
Also, if you think I am some sort of glad handler or whatever that term is, I am not... You really do excellent work with a camera.
Oh, by the way... my daughter graduated from high school two years ago and it felt like someone ripped my heart out!! But I was so happy for her...!
What a wonderful thing for you to do.
WOW! What a great capture. What fantastic emotion you snagged! Great job, Kate!
That is such a sweet photo!
Guess what! I missed the contest - AGAIN! *sigh*
Lucky you to have spent an evening with friends on that "boat." More like a "yacht."
Mom's expression tells it all. What incredible emotion you've captured. Beautiful!
wonderful shot! It tells it all!
Congratulations graduates!
That is a gorgeous shot Kate - you captured the emotion beautifully.
Wow, Russell. I am so touched by what you wrote. You are always so encouraging. And we should always encourage each other!
I was actually toying with the idea of doing something like this:
http://www.blurb.com/
You could do this as well. In fact, anyone can! There's also lulu.com where you can publish your own book as well.
Thank you everyone for your kind comments. They mean so much to me.

Your post touched my heart. It reminded me of my youngest daughter when she waled down the path and graduated. It was the happiest time in my life other than when she was born.
Wonderful.
Oh I've been there and this brings up such bittersweet feelings. You want them to fly the nest but you want them to never leave you. I still have one more college graduation for my youngest....
Perfect. Just perfect.
