Just fooling around

I should be reading. You know, something that will nourish my soul or broaden my horizons. But tonight I’m just fooling around in Photoshop and seeing what I can come up by just pushing a button. I mean, a single button. Because sometimes I’m just lazy like that. Ok, a lot of the time I’m lazy like that. I should probably learn how to achieve these techniques rather than relying on actions but I can’t help myself. And this action I got for free.

I took this photo of a crocus last spring. The only thing I did to it tonight was run Michelle Black’s Vintage Mod on it. It lent it a quirky sort of vintage feeling.

The ladybug pic got the exact same treatment. But this time, I also added a ghostbones texture, setting the layer to soft light and reducing the opacity to about 90%. Then I brushed off a small amount of texture from the bug. To find out how to do this, visit Ree at Pioneer Woman here. And honestly, once you get the hang of it, it takes only minutes to achieve.

This tree branch got the same treatment, Michelle Black’s Vintage mod. It turned the seeds slightly more pink and I like the background color. If you have Photoshop and would like to try her free actions, go here. Look in the shaded blue rectangle in the center, where she has a link to her Tryout Package. Then you can save them to Photoshop.

I’m sorry to all those who get totally bored with these kind of posts. But it floats my boat.

I loved reading your comments in yesterday’s post about things you love. They made me smile. It’s simple things, you told me, like an ice cold Dr. Pepper, having someone cook for you, or cooking for them, still loving your husband after all those years, breaking a rule, eating a nice meal in a restaurant, or having your husband walk you to your car every morning, kiss you goodbye and tell you to drive safely.

I always wanted a husband like that, Firelight, and I have him finally. Every single morning my husband walks me to the car and opens the door for me, and kisses me goodbye. Granted, we have our troubles, but that single act of daily kindness makes every day begin in a good way. Thanks, dear readers, for making me remember that.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

It's fun to see what you can do with editing programs! And you do great! I don't have one yet....but hopefully by this summer, I'll be ready to go. Regardless of the editing, you still take really nice shots to begin with. Good photography is really in the head, editing just boosts an already great picture!

Definitely not a bore with the photos! That tree branch is so incredible as is the crocus...really brought out the rich colors. I use GIMP and still am amazed what happens just by clicking one little tab!

Your pictures get more and more beautiful. I'll have to take a look at the brushing off technique. That first shot especially, stunning!

So glad you posted about this. My friend who reads you is a SOOC type and gives me a hard time about "messing" with my photos, yet she loves yours - and I don't blame her! I'm hoping she see this post as just having an option to boost an already good photo!

NO NO NO definitely NOT boring on the photo front -- personally, I am learning so much from all of your experimentation and I thank you very much for posting your results! Plus, I think it is truly wonderful that there is so much sharing going on *photographically* around Blogger. I really appreciate all that you share.

Wow! I am in awe at your pictures. That is one hell of a camera or are you just a bloody good photographer! I have to learn so much with my camera, I have photoshop on discs but haven't had time to explore yet.

Each morning our blessings begin with our eyes opening and then the first breath. Small miracles abound, some are trapped in the kindness of others and some we give away.

Actions ... why do I always think they are called effects ... and what is the difference between an action and an effect and DO NOT tell me one is a result of the other or I will come down there ...

I like the crocus both ways - but then you know I am not a post-processing snob. Bring it on - a lot of times that is all that saves my photos :) And the last paragraph brought tears to my eyes.

Oh - and thanks for your link to my brownies!

That purple crocus, with its shiny petals, always reminds me of those boiled sweets we had as children - shiny and silky and tasting delicious to our developing taste buds.

I could waste hours and hours (okay I DO waste hours and hours) just playing around in photoshop.

Country Girl, I am in love with these photos. One of these days I am going to sit down and play with textures. Are you using CS3 or Elements?

I am a day late on the things I love. My all time favorite is when my husband calls me sweetheart. He does not do it often but it is so special and sweet.

Yes, I have to agree, a macro lens would be fabulous...but for now...I'll have to put it on my wish list.
Does anyone but me see something in the crocus? Reminds me of an old episode of Everybody loves Raymond when his mother took a art class in which she created a sculpture that resembled a...well, vay-j-j! Yes, just say it, my mind is in the gutter!!!!

Thanks so much, all.
Chere, I have PS2. It's an old version my son downloaded into my computer. He'd used it in college for his architecture classes.
Deb, I was waiting for someone to mention that. I see it all the time!
