View from the front porch

I was so tired when I came home from work today. So tired, I didn’t feel like a walk. So my husband brought me some tea and as I sat on the front porch steps drinking it, I realized how clear our view was. We could see for miles this afternoon.

As I sat there, I realized that when this house was built, the family who lived here was probably very prominent. I say this because of the view that would have been afforded back in Colonial times. I know you can’t see it in this picture, but the land rolls and swells beneath this hill. The Elk River lies off in the distance to the right, and none of these trees would have been here in pre-Revolutionary War days. It would have been an expansive view.

Looking off to the right, I can see some weather coming. I also notice George chasing the cat.

This was taken later, after dinner. I put the two photos together to give you an idea of the view. Soon all the leaves will be out and we won’t be able to see much. We’ll be all enclosed in this little cocoon at the top of the hill.

Our grass turned green with today’s rain. I swear it wasn’t this green when I left for work this morning.

If you stand at a certain point in the backyard when the leaves are off the trees, you can see three bridges. My husband dubbed it the three bridges spot. You can see as far as the Delaware Memorial Bridge. There’s a couple more we can see along the C&D Canal, but not all at the same time because of the trees.

This little front blew in just before dinner tonight. It was gone pretty quickly and nothing came of it but a few rain drops.

My husband’s little lettuce plants liked it. He has them set in pots at the foot of the front steps. Hope your weekend is a good one. Thanks again to all for stopping by.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Your views are beautiful - love all the trees. Laughed at George chasing the cat! What does he do with the cat if he catches him? LOL!

We had the same weather here today. It was miserable this morning. I agree the grass does look greener this evening then it did this morning.

Enjoy your evening!

Sorry you had a tiring day but I have to say you have a very refreshing post. It's just a little piece of peace. I'm going to keep coming back and just gaze...hope you don't mind.

Dear Shawn,
Why would I mind? Welcome.
Shellmo, George would nibble just a little on the cat. And the cat will stay still until he sees a break and then run for it.
Leif and Betty, the lettuces are in big pots that my husband takes in and out daily. He has two of them and some plants in trays as well.
Thanks, everyone.

Our female rott walked into the neighbors yard while out in the front of the house with me... she came across their cat who immediately gave her entire head a head-lock, thrashed her about the head with her paws and then let her go. Our dog, Missy just stood there and took it and then politely came back home... I laughed for hours.

I want to come sit on your front porch. Take in the view. Let the world go by. Sip wine. Chat. Sigh, it would be such a great time... (oh, and play with George!)

Nice to see your view.

I took a series of photos last week trying to get the mountain panorama shot from here....not so good. One day I'll get it and be able to share....

The views are tremendous and that lettuce looks very, very eatable.
George and the cat look to be having a lovely time - when the cat's tail is up it is always enjoying itself.
I am sure after your cup of tea looking at that view you felt newly invigorated.

To have a view from your house can make you realise how vast our world is and how lucky we are to experience its beauty.

I love the history with your home..if I lived in a home that old I'd also wonder about the people who lived there before me...the views they had, the life they had walking the same halls as me...how was it for them during a storm way back in colonial days? Your storm photo from your front porch was gorgeous..something about bad weather fascinates me. And George...leave the poor cat alone!!!!
Have a great weekend!!

what a lovely restful visit. Thank you for inviting us over. Cup of tea, quiet chats about our days. Watching the clouds come on by.
Feel like I live right down the road and should be bringing by muffins on my next walk.
Thanks for the visual daydream. As always, I enjoy your daily adventures

I so envy your spot way out there! I have a bank and a hotel being built within just a couple of blocks of my house. It can get kind of loud when you're out doors!
