It’s come to my attention that although we have two pets in this family, only one gets to shine in the spotlight. For as much as George loves the camera, our cat Blackie does not.
To get a photo of Blackie, one must be discreet. Blackie is most distrustful of the camera.
Use of the long lens is highly recommended.
This way she doesn’t know you’re there.
A less effective method is keeping the camera behind your back and pulling it out while she’s looking the other way.
Or catching her taking a nap. On a bed, I might add, she believes to be hers.
You can run but you can’t hide from the lens, Blackie!
Um . . . I can still see you.
All in all, the long lens works the best with her. But she really is a beautiful girl.

Have a great weekend, all. And, as always, thanks for coming by.
Until later, then . . .

A VERY beautiful girl. That shot of her in the tree makes her look wild and super feline. You have two handsome four legged friends and your camera work is excellent.
Blackie is a beauty. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
My cat hates the camera, too. I think it is the beep that the auto focus makes. You can shut that off, but I've never cared enough to try...
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Blackie is a beautiful girl. I love the 1st shot, could have not been any better if she was posing.
Thanks for making George share the spotlight; Blackie and your photo treatments of her are beautiful!
Blackie is gorgeous! Your photos of her are wonderful.
We have a cat that looks just like Blackie -- his name is Riley. He is quite disobedient and full of personality.
beautiful photos! and what a gorgeous cat!
I am owned by my cat. It's not the first time this has happened, and most likely won't be the last. Oh, did I tell you I'm not really a cat person?
Oh, you're right, Kate. She's a real beauty! Thanks for being patient and capturing her pretty images to share with us.
xoxo

What a gorgeous cat! I didn't even know you had one! She is so striking and you captured her grace beautifully.
She is sleek, and stunning, and soooo beautiful.
Of course she would be camera shy, she doesn't want to dazzle us too much with her beauty.
Bootsie hates the camera also. I might need to bribe him a little bit more to get photos.

Beautiful, indeed! Your pics are great and she was a lovely, if unwilling, model!
Oh, what a beautiful kitty Blackie is. I love the pictures of her in the tree. It was very nice of George to share a little blog space with her.
George knows he has nothing to worry about, as he is a beautiful dog. I just love him. Together they make a beautiful pair.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Janice
my one dog is camera shy too, if she sees a camera she bolts!!
Blackie just stole my heart.....sorry George!
She is beautiful - great photo's
She is really pur-tee.
What a gorgeous cat! Our dogs chased one of the neighbor's cats up a tree last week and I was able to get some great pictures of her. She is like your Blackie and doesn't like having her picture taken either!
Kat :)
My cat HATES my camera too. It's really sad...

What a surprise & delight!
Aloha from Hawaii my Friend!

she really is beautiful.....
She really is a gorgeous cat! LOVE the eyes!
Such a lovely *cat* post, CG...Blackie reminds me of a feline I had years ago, a male I named "Stasha." All black, with yellow eyes, short-haired with a similar stature as Blackie.
So so different from dogs. Always like fog-on-little-cat-feet (e.e. cummings?)
Beautiful cat , Kate..gorgeous photos also! Thank you!
Beautiful cat and excellent captures! She reminds me of my own cat, Belle. Have a great weekend!
Hurray for Blackie and finally getting her moment in the spotlight! Such a lovely kitty deserves it! She is really fantastic and yes, cats are so arrogant, they think they own the whole house and we're just priviliged to be able to live with them...hahahaha!! Have a great Saturday!
Blackie is indeed a beauty. I love cats too, especially the black ones. They are some kind of ... graceful I believe.
Easter is coming up and the norwegians celebrate by going to their mountain cabin and go skiing. Since we neither have a cabin nor do I love skiing, we will stay at home. And I do look forward to that ;-)
Love Marit
She's beautiful! Great photos. Hope you have a great weekend. We are loading up the car and heading to Busch Gardens for the day. Roller coasters are a fave for us. Great stress release!
Talk to you soon-

What a beautiful cat, very gracefull. I love cats.
Never fails to amaze me how much like our Middy, your Blackie is!! Twin sisters... and equally disdainful of the direct pose apparently! Great shots (of course) - does she sit on laps? Middy does, and I have the claw scars to prove it!
:-)

Now in our house I find it to be the opposite, Phineas and Luna are easier to photograph than Lily. She won't sit still for anything and always wants to be right up in my face, or running the other way.
I do love a good black cat : )
Blackie is beautiful. Love those last couple of shots of her against that green.
wv: flocki. The birds were all flocki around that tree until they saw Blackie coming.
Lovely shots of Blackie ~ the last one in the grass is my favorite but that area all outstanding!
Happy Weekend!!
Rose says thanks for sharing pix of Blackie. She also says cats arent afraid of the autofocus noise, its those lights that make us close our eyes or turn out heads away but if you are patient and keep the strap from dangling and being a distraction we will look right at you, the lens... and she said its best to use no flash at all ... we look our best in natural light.
Dictated by Rose ..who noticed the WV is hantsu which is cat-speak for thank you
cats are so different than dogs...my dogs now pose when they see me with a camera....trying to photograph my father in laws cats is impossible..
We had a black cat, her name was Smudge....it has been kind of a tradition in our family....to have a black cat named Smudge.......there have been three that I know of going back to England when my mom was a child.
Weird, aren't we?
Blackie is a gorgeous cat. I've always wanted a black one for myself.
I love the first photo with her looking toward the camera. She is beautiful but looks very independent!

You have a cat?
She looks lovely. I confess I'm a dog person who indulges cats when necessary.
I have a lot of trouble photographing one of our dogs, who is also camera averse. I have to be very sneaky to get his image. If I'm lucky. A working telephoto lens would help.
Blackie is stunning! Often when I upload pics of our black lab Ernie, I'll see all the variations in his fur (there is quite a bit of red) :-)I love taking pics of my daughter's two cats ~ Douggie is completely deaf, very inquisitive & fearless, and will come right up to the lens... he is a real ham. Hope you are having a great weekend Kate ♥ P.S. Doing some 'catch up' reading here @ Chronicles and the photos your husband took recently are spectacular!
Oh Kate, they are just beautiful. I just take shots of our cat and deal with it!! She doesn't go outside, no nails, we didn't do it....so she is inside and can't be a true feline, like yours. I will show her what a real cat can do....the tree shot.
My guess is that Blackie likes things just as they are.....controlled and out of her hair....smiles.
She is beautiful! I have to do the same thing with my outdoor cat, but the indoor cats just ignore me ;0)
You're right. Cats are so very hard to snap. I decided one day that I should have a piture of my cat in case she ever got lost and I needed to post her picture. All I could get was a picture of her belly-up because she would only hold still while being scratched. I can see the poster now... Have you seen this belly!!
Love your gorgeous black cat! I had a very similar (thinner) black cat a long time ago....his name was Cinder!
Blackie so reminded me of my first black cat. I named her Thomasina, after a cat on a Disney show. She was the best mouser ever. She even brought tiny mice to put in with her kittens, so they would learn to be great mousers too. I loved that kitty. Thanks for jogging my memory.

Loving Blackie & loving these truly wonderful photos. We had a black cat, Maggie, for 13 years & in all that time I never got pictures as beautiful as these. Blackie certainly deserves her moment in the spotlight. Thanks for sharing her with us. >^..^<
My name is Holly and I just found your lovely blog, via Jessica at momshots.
The quiet nature of your blog, and the gorgeous photos have put you on the blogroll. As I get older, stillness and peace are becoming more and more what I crave.
I, too, am involved with horses, dogs and the occasional cat (at the barn, tho I might be talked into one at home someday).
Those are wonderful photos of your little black cat, dark based animals are supremely difficult to get good photos of. It's very easy to lose detail when you meter for the surrounding area.
Welcome Holly. Glad you found me.
And Barbara, welcome too. That's hilarious about the kitty belly!
Mary. I'm so glad you couldn't resist . . .

Thanks all for your comments.
Oh, I just love Blackie! She looks so much like my Uh-Oh! The first picture of her walking across the red bricks and the wild cat in a tree photo are my favorites. She almost looks as if she's posing for you in the tree :):)
she is gorgeous - makes me miss my maggie
Such sleek, stealth feline beauty! That first shot is my favorite!!
She is a stunner! What a lovely, sleek cat.
How did you name her? Just kidding.
She is gorgeous. It's just the same in our house. The dogs get all the attention and the cat, even though loved just as much, is hardly photographed - however, your post has encouraged me to publish a photo of her on my blog - hope you don't think I'm being a copy cat.
Beautiful photos as always.
CJ xx
lovely lady... hank is not fond of the camera either but since there is no option of long or short lenses...GIGGLES
What a sweet creature she really is!
A wonderful Sunday to you,
Merisi
She's very gorgeous. Every girl has to maintain a little air of mystery.
WOW, that felt strange!!! We are on the other side of the page and the page is different....
I like it.
I thought for a second I was somewhere else, but thankfully, I'm not.
The camera and lens probably looks pretty scary to a cat! They are so distrustful to start with. Love cats... but do you really think you fooled her with the "behind the back" trick??? C'mon Kate! :)
oh, she is just beautiful!! I have a cat named "Blackie" too!!! :) I love the photos of your Blackie. Hope we get to see more of her.
We have several solid black cats. Luv the pictures!
