Only my hairdresser knows

Disclaimer: This post has nothing to do with its title. I just do that sometimes after I’ve written it and can’t think of a post title.

I’ve been thinking lately. Thinking about where I want this blog to go. Thinking about all the time I devote to it and the time I devote to photography and I’m thinking that maybe the time has come to have the blog give a little bit back to me. If that’s even possible.

I’ve had friends write me, telling me that I should really monetize this site and just over a month ago, I accepted my first advertising offer and signed up as an affiliate with B&H Photo. I was already familiar with the company and knew and respected their business practices. I like B&H Photo.

I’m thinking of going on board with BlogHer advertising and have no idea about their business practices and am wondering if any readers have had any advertising experience with them. Are you happy with them? Is it what you thought it would be? Any feedback would be appreciated. If you prefer not to write in a public forum, write me at katydid56@gmail. Thank you very much.

This bud’s for you.

You knew I was gonna say that, didn’t you?

At school today, it seemed that about a third of the classes were held out of doors. Every teacher seemed to have an errand to run in town on their free period. It wasn’t only the students who wanted to be outside. I couldn’t wait to get home and get walking with George.

I went around the property twice and then went inside to get the camera and macro lens. I love the colors of the earth in the bokeh here.

I wish . . . what would I wish? More importantly, what would you wish?

I am into the dee-oh-ef lately.

Could you tell?

Women are angels.

And when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly . . .

. . . on a broomstick.

We’re flexible.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

I was sent that as an e-mail today and I really got a kick out of it.

...hee,HEE! I love that! My broom can do 0-60 in .2 seconds - how about yours? lol... Not that you have a broom mind you...*gulp*giggle* ;o)

...I don't know anything about the advertising end of this but I do think you should go for it if it will bring you revenue for all the work you put into your blog. Seriously. I think this whole thing is fantastic and it couldn't happen to a more deserving person Kate... :o)

...Love those photos! That 4th photo made my heart jump...it's that good! And my wish? An oreo cookie shake. :oP

...Blessings...

These pictures are awesome... Really makes me excited about Spring.

Just yesterday, I was wondering why you didn't have more advertising on your blog. You deserve some kind of pay for all the work you've put into it. I've heard really good things about Blogher. I say- go for it.

Go for it on Blogher, then let us know how it goes! Great photos as usual!

Great close-ups! I especially liked the 3rd one (the grasses), and what was the spidery thing in the 4th one? Way cool.

No experience with advertising, but I say go for it.

Love the quote!

Forget the shake. Just an oreo cookie would be good right now.

Whatever that second bud is, I took a picture of the same type of tree today on my way out the driveway because against the blue sky it was incredible.

When we women run the battery down on our broomsticks, we can still fly because by that time our broken wing has healed well enough that we can take flight again, however lopsided the take-off may be.

Someone sent me the same quote last week. I thought it was quite funny too. Good luck with monetizing.

You have a great blog and your time is worth something! Go for it!

As a new reader, I'd just like to say that the first thing I notice about blogs is how much advertising they do or do not have. While I would certainly never question that you deserve to be compensated for your time and talent, I would say to be careful in losing yourself in the process. "You" is what makes your blog worth visiting again and again :)
LOVE the quote!!!

Gosh, Kate, you have become the über-blogger...! Good for you. :-) Why not monetize? Goodness!

haven't a clue about advertising...those who know will help you figure it out....but all i see in the blog world is about a promotion of some kind. i would think it would be a good venture if you find the right fit. your a smart cookie...you do what works for you.

LOL..that was funny! Love these pictures..so detailed..so beautiful.
I think you should do what you want to do...just make it still feel like a blog instead of a business ok? Come say hi :D

Love the ending! Hilarious! Your pictures are all so beautiful. I thought I would tell you I posted a pic of our Aussie Danka on my Thousand word Thursday post. She is smiling. I wish I could catch her full smile. It is so funny.

..I have not ventured into the advertising part of a blog yet, but I will say my opinion is that too much of it takes away from the feel of the blog. It seems they smack ads in the middle of how you have set it up and readers have to get around it or look beyond it. Yours is a beautiful blog, perhaps see if you have say in where the ads lie.

Incredible pics - jaw dropping in fact. Love them. Will be interested to see what you finally do in terms of monetizing your blog.

I leave you now as my broom awaits!

Hmm....I don't know Kate.....for me it is always the question about making money and doing something that I love. Often, when I throw money into the mix too much, it changes things.
You have to ask yourself what you want most out of this blog, and go from there.
I do know that going to a blog with tons of ads ....or a web site for that matter.....is wicked distracting to me. Check out some blogs with ads...lots of them...and see how you feel about them.

What beautiful signs of spring. As far as monetizing is concerned, I have heard mixed reviews. Depends on how much you like to be told what to do.

Laura ~Peach~ said...

i have had blogher ads for over a year... have made a massive 28 bucks... but then i am not famous like you :) lol i say give it a shot... see how it feels only gripe i have is i can never seem to get my header photos the "Right" size but the ladies there are sweet and resize them for me... so i get my hands slapped once in a while... no biggie...

Ralphie23 said...

I love that last photo of the buds! You should get something out of it. Go for it! :)

Don't know if Blogher is the way to go, but do know you should be monetizing your wonderful blog. As Deb said, they DO have a lot of rules - but then again, your blog has a far greater reach than mine ever has so their rules for you might be more accomodating. Look into Federated ?? (Dooce is with them) as well.
What can I say, as always your pics are spectacular my friend.

Go for it, Kate! You might want to talk to Cindy at My Romantic Home -- she wrote about advertising recently. Her link is on my sidebar. Maybe text links in your sidebar, and button ads from etsy vendors and the like would be less intrusive than BlogHer...

Love your dee-0h-eff! lol

I have no idea about advertising, I mean I get lots of offers but have never taken anyone up on it. I will say the blogher adds are big and a bit distracting...they need to streamline them I think. Good luck!!

Hi, I don't have any experience with advetising, you may do good with it...I have stopped buying O magazine because it's like buying a catalog mostly.
I say your blog is a winner, I love it...I'm glad I came across it, we now have a puppy because of your dog pictures...LoL

Looks like most people approve of ads. Hope they feel the same way on my blog! I think for most people it's not a big deal anyway.

When you spend so much time on something you love it's definitely nice to get a little reward!

Enjoy the glorious day!
