I love it here

It’s Saturday night and I’m writing this from the vacation cottage that my husband and I are renting for the week on the coat of Maine.

All my fears about this place were unfounded and I’m happy to report that this is the best place we’ve stayed so far.

This was taken just before sunset from the beach. The place we rented is waterfront.

This was later on, while sitting out on the porch amidst the mosquitoes. I had on my favorite repellant which kept them at bay.

I’m enjoying a glass of wine while sitting on the porch and I can hear the loons calling in the distance. The ocean air is full of the scent of pine trees with a little wild beach rose thrown in for good measure.

I love to travel and driving twelve hours is well worth the effort when you end up in a place like this. It really seemed like no time until we were here.

Do you see those two floats in the photo above? I’d forgotten they were there and it was dark. They’re old lobster pot buoys that my husband found today. They were wrapped around some driftwood on the beach.

Tomorrow’s forecast calls for rain, but I could care less because hey, we’re in Maine. You knew I’d say that, didn’t you?!

Until next time,

Oh that's so worth a dozen hours of driving... especially if you're at the wheel. Gorgeous photos.

I am so seriously jealous. It is h, h, and h here, the humidity falling into the "oppressive" realm. Oh, for Maine! I can smell the air as you describe it, and the sounds at water's edge. The light. Forget the mosquitoes. Glad you've got repellent. I imagine a week of bliss ahead for you. Can't wait to be there with you.

Have a lovely holiday in the wonderful Arcadia National Park. It's often a tricky business finding the "holiday cottage of your dreams" but this time it all sounds OK.

What an adventure! I love Maine... I hope each days is as relaxing as the one before it.

Another 6/8 hours and you're in my neck of the woods. Our doors are open. Dogs are ALWAYS welcome here.

Oh, beach combing is my favorite thing to do. Only I am a little west of you, like the left coast. Have fun Kate, hope and pray you have some great adventures!

So glad you made it there safely, and the place you are renting looks amazing! I'll have to get the info from you so that we can go to Maine and take our puppies with us!

Enjoy!

Oh do enjoy yourself tremendously Kate!...The view from that deck is worth every minute of that drive:)
If you drive by Jordan's Drive in on rt 1 stop and have their crabrolls and think of me...they are the best!...and go for the onion rings with them:)

Sounds like a little slice of heaven, or rather a large slice with some whipped cream on top.

Those bouys are highly photogenic, especially when they're in their element, such as washed up on the beach or wrapped around one's head-- but that's certainly not anything I'd know about.

Breathe in that air and absorb the sounds and smells of the planet. And sleep late because you can.

Sitting on that veranda, looking out over that water, sipping wine must be what one would find in the dictionary under the word: Relaxing!
Enjoy my friend!

Marvelous photos - the dusky evening looking-out-over-the-lake one would make a lovely pen/ink/watercolor study. And thanks for the link to the deet free bug repellent! Glad you're enjoying your stay.

Hi Kate, sorry it's been a while. Your vacation home looks just like the one my hubby and I rented when we were on the Vancouver Island for our honeymoon (15 years ago last wednesday).
Great to hear you have so much fun.
Enjoy your time out dear.

I love how yo can comb the beaches and find lobster buoys. Even if they aren't old just a few weeks in the sea will turn them into something worthy of being a decorative porch item

Odd how in the younger years so many of us crave busy destinations with people everywhere. Seems as we age we long for seclusion and it looks as though you may have found it.... because you're in Maine!

The title of your post caught my eye while I was over visiting Kat at Low Tide High Style, because "hey, I'm in Maine too!" And by the looks of your images, I would say we are very close in proximity too. Enjoy! ~Lili
