Until next time

It’s time to begin thinking of leaving this place we’ve been all week. I’ll tell you where the cottage is and show you more photos (if you’re not getting too tired of it all yet) when I get home.

It’s time to pack up the laptop and the things around the house because we want to get an early start tomorrow. Working on these photos is dificult because of the tiny laptop screen. The one I have at home is twice this size. I’m not too sure of the colors I’ve been posting all week, so bear with me please.

I say goodbye to all of this, until next year.

I picked this stem off a large wild blueberry bush growing along the shoreline near our cottage. I’ve had it in a champagne glass filled with water for the past several days. UPDATE: It's mountain laurel. Thanks, readers!

I think I may miss this the most. I have always wanted to kayak yet never did until this week. I practiced and became adept at circling around rocks, stopping and turning quickly. And going really fast.

I love it. Except getting out. I don’t like that part.

Well, my husband’s started packing. George is outside barking at those pesky squirrels. And it’s time to shut this baby down and get moving.

I look forward to catching up with all of you when I get home. And I have a lot of catching up to do. Plus there’s a lot of comments to read . . . thanks so much for coming by and visiting today.

Have to agree with Jack. I think it's a laurel.

I just know that first photo is mountain laurel - one of the most photogenic flowers I've ever seen.

Stop by on your way home tomorrow! :)

Beautiful photos! Those are blueberry blossoms? I don't recall our blueberries blossoming like that! I wish they did though, because those are gorgeous.

And your photos make me want to drive over with my camera this instant to the coast.

It looks breathtaking Kate! What a wonderful holiday!! Are those really blueberry blooms in that first photo? I've never seen such a thing and we have wild blueberry bushes growing all around the woods here...really gorgeous!! Oh man, I wouldn't like getting in or out of a kayak either!!! However, I imagine it's fun when you get the hang of it...just too close to the water for my liking...my luck a whale would come and knock me over...ugh!!!! Be sure and enjoy the ride home and drive carefully!!

Wow! A Jonathan Livingston Seagull reference! That was my favorite book in high school. Love kayaking. Love being down close to the water. Love the rhythm of paddling. I have a little pumpkinseed kayak that I haven't taken out since I had kids. It seems like million years. It sounds like you had a wonderful vacation.

Thanks for sharing your vacation. And my husband wonders why I have been talking Maine all week?

I have been there several times (just short visits) and it is so pretty, like a picture postcard. SO glad you had a great stay.

I learned to kayak YEARS ago... probably would not do it anymore, but it was fun. Did you learn how to roll over in it? If you can't roll all the way you have to pull your balls (ha) which releases the skirt around you to let you out of the kayak so you don't drown. It's crazy!!

Wow... Jonathan does live on, doesn't he! What beautiful place to see. I love the water and the boats the colors from very cool colors. so very peaceful. I want to be there learning to kayak with you. Seriously I've always wanted to scull. They have built a facility in OK City where they've held pre olympic races and they say they give lessons, but it look so peaceful to be setting up on the top of the scull, long smooth strokes and feeling the air in your face and hair. Mmmmmmmmm.

I have loved sharing this week with you. It was great to escape from my own world, but it was also lovely to have so many memories stirred.

I have a friend who lives and paints in the area where you've been (the photo of the painter, plus the reference to Schoodic brought her to mind). You might enjoy checking out her work: http://whopaints.com/
