It was beautiful in Maryland today and warmer weather is predicted for later in the week and through the weekend. It’s been pretty chilly these past couple of days and I even wore gloves (gasp) during my afternoon walk yesterday.
A reader questioned the font on my new header. It’s called Freebooter Script and I got it as a free download at Dafont.com.
And speaking of websites, my husband found an interesting one last month and has been visiting it daily ever since. It’s called Archive.org.
It boasts a huge digital library of free books & music and a wayback machine (whatever that is). Initially, my husband used the site solely to access old Grateful Dead tunes. He’s kept ticket stubs from his youth and can actually call up the concert listed on a stub and listen to it. The audio from the really old stuff is sort of lacking, but still – it’s pretty interesting.
There’s his ticket stub from a show at the Philadelphia Spectrum in 1980 when we went to see the Grateful Dead. They weren’t my favorite group, but it was one of the most interesting concerts I’d attended. Lots of zaniness going on in the crowd and outside.
Lately on Archive.org, my husband’s been listening to classic literature and poetry, which I find really strange but nice. I’ve known him for over 30 years and he’s never expressed an interest in reading anything other than the newspaper.
We’ve been listening to the site during dinner. Tonight we listened to poetry.
By candlelight.
And I think I’ll end on that note.
Until tomorrow, then.
Bird photos taken today by my husband, using a Nikon 70-300mm lens.

I love your birdfeeder! Oh, the photos are also great, but how would you get them without the awesome birdfeeder, right? (I'm obsessed with birds, hence birdfeeders as well.)
I'm going to check out the wayback machine; is it like the one on Peabody and Sherman?
Thanks, Sharmon. I have no idea about that Wayback machine! Tell me if you find it. I never checked. Never even went on the site until tonight.

Listening to poetry by candlelight at dinner? On a Tuesday night?
Was there a particular poem he chose and had he heard it before? Or was he just listening to whatever was on? Either way, that's a pretty darn romantic Tuesdsay night if you ask me.
And I think I'll end on that note.
Thanks for sharing! I'll check out that site - and I know my mom will love it!!
That sounds very cool. I'll have to check it out. Thanks.. and lovely shots as always.
Oh what a neat post....full of information.
(Glad you listened by candlelight:)))))
Hope you had a wonderful rest of the day and tomorrow is spectacular!!!!!
Gorgeous photos Kate...cardinals are my favorite. Thanks for the website referral...I am going to check that out!
Listening to poetry by candlelight... awww! And your little house finches (or are they purple finches?) are so cute -- great pictures!
sweet!
what CBW said.... poetry and dinner and candlelight and it was a weekday and not an anniversary?? The only poetry I've gotten lately is from the Brat Child and it's the "Bang, Bang your dead" variety from 4 year old boys.
Your images are poetry to me my friend!
You know these bird shots just make my heart sing :)
What Deltaville Jamie said.. minus the boys shooting things. :-)
How romantic!
What a wonderful set of photos...love the cardinal.
Wonderful post thanx for the info ! I used to listen to the same group years ago ! Never thought anyone liked them then or still does other then me lol. Have a great day !
Sounds idyllic.....
Fantastic shots of the birds!
I am going to steer ToonMan to this site I bet he likes it .. but if he listens to poetry I am going to truly wonder if the site has some odd vibe that converts the men we married into someone else ...
And I love 'zaniness'
...well it sure beats listening to "Jeopardy" which Mr O and I listened to during dinner last night:)
I'm listening to a Grateful Dead concert as I type this...Mr O is going to think he died and went to heaven! Thanks for the link to you and the mr!
there are certain songs by the GD that I love and others not so much. but candlelight and poetry sounds wonderfully romantic .... don't upset the applecart? *smile*
How romantic you two, poetry by candlelight. I would imagine it wasn't even because of a power outage either! xo ~Lili
As always you photographs are just fabulous. I am going right over to that website as soon as I finish typing. I love the poetry, candlelight and dinner!!!!! Carla
I'll have to check out the links you suggested.
It's been cool here too, and like your neck of the woods it's supposed to warm up today. I'm SO looking forward to it!
I love your bird photos. I never get to see birds close up like this. And I love the font on your header.
