Holiday Gift ideas: Post #1

I thought it might be fun to post a few gift ideas for the approaching holiday season. As for me, I have all my gifts already purchased and most are wrapped as well.

No, wait! Don’t leave. I’m only kidding!

I can’t stand when people say this in November. I'm a late shopper and I like it that way. I begin on the day after Thanksgiving, online because it’s easier. And I like wrapping things just before the Big Day. Wrapping is one of my favorite things to do. And I’m being serious here.

The ideas I’m posting are small ones, and most are from blogging pals. I’ll be posting more suggestions in the weeks to come. So let’s begin, shall we?

The 2011 Bush Calendar from blogging buddy Bush Babe from Australia. She’s a former photojournalist, having worked at a metropolitan newspaper in Australia. Part of the proceeds go towards HeartKids Australia, a charity that’s dear to her family’s heart. The calendar is a tad pricey to ship to the states (13.00) but I love her photography. It’s a treat to see Australia through her eyes. Available [here] on Bush Babe’s etsy site.

Fearless Nesting’s etsy shop is where I found this cute little wool felted cloche hat. Free shipping on this item, too. The shop owners are the handcrafters of raku pottery and Lili (one of the owners and a blogging friend) also makes beautiful wool felted purses.

The Hip to Be Square loom, offered by another blogging buddy. My friend, Hilary at the Crazy as a Loom blog has created a high quality potholder loom. It comes with enough loops to make 8 potholders and refills are available. If you’d like to see more photos, I reviewed it [here].

I love these cards. They’re not from a blogging pal but I found them in 2008 on etsy at The Mincing Mockingbird. They’re fun and unique, especially if you like birds. The site also carries art prints and magnets.

After work tomorrow, I’m headed for a long weekend trip with friends. I’ll be taking my camera (of course) and will try to post once or twice while I’m away. I heard there was high-speed internet at the hotel. So I’ll see you when I get back and hey, maybe even before!

Until later, my friends . . .

Thanks for the reminder...I'm ordering the loom for a granddaughter. She has a plastic one that keeps breaking.

Oh, have a wonderful weekend. Take lots of photos and do lots of laughing. Eat good food and drink good wine. And sleep late, if you can. That's my idea of a perfect weekend.

Thanks heaps Kate - i am most honoured to be included in your list here...

For those interested in the Aussie Bush calendar but put off by the postage costs - order more than one and the price per calendar comes down dramatically! I would love to post them cheaper, but like them arrive in a good condition in a padded envelope. (I sell many of these to the States, and to people in Oz looking to send them on to friends and family overseas.)

Nice stuff and have been on a pot holder making kick lately. I use the vintage metal looms and enjoy making and using the colorful pot holders as mug rugs. Such a simple pleasure.
Enjoy your holiday.

Being one of those shoppers who is always out till the last minute Christmas eve, I decided last year to end the madness and start earlier and possibly do some online shopping as well, but I'm one of those shoppers who enjoys physical touch so this will be a little tough for me.

My 1st visit! Oh, how I love the potholder frame, it brings me back a few years! I had a nice visit, when you have a moment please "visit" me in New England! I love company and new Followers are always welcome!

I went to see Amy Sedaris Monday night - she's promoting her new hilarious book that is subtitled, "Crafts for poor people." She is, apparently, waaay into weaving her own potholders these days! She was joking that she'd be selling 'em for $10 a pop during the book signing. See? Loop looms are COOL!

Have a great trip! Lone the idea, I love Mincing Mockingbird, I just gave my sister one of their owl prints for her birthday.
My mother-in-law is one of those people, she will have everything bought and wrapped by thanksgiving, and will mail her christmas cards exactly the day after thanksgiving.
ah well, she is retired, so i will let her her away with it.

Oh Kate how sweet you are to include my Etsy shop, what a fun surprise! Thank you. I'm loving that loom too, brings back such great family memories. I'm hooked on anything bird related and those cards are adorable, and how generous is the creator of that calendar! xo ~Lili

I bought my first Christmas present several weeks ago, in October. I was feeling pretty smug and then I had to return it because I found out the recipient didn't like this kind of gift. *sigh* Now, I'm back to square one with only 5 weeks until the Blessed Event.

I need ideas for Men, please. :o)))
