So there I was, knitting in the sunlit backyard and marveling at the beauty of November, one of my favorite months of the year. The weather can go from the warmth of an Indian summer day to crisp autumnal splendor to a wintry mix and I enjoy the variety.
I listened to the steady drum of a woodpecker and then spied him at the top of one of the black walnuts at the edge of the property. I could hear the hum of distant traffic as the world goes about its business. But here, on the property of the manor house on the hill that has been in this same spot since 1769, it feels far removed from the rest of the world.
Miss Blackie tiptoes through the soaker hoses that my husband has spread across the lawn. He’s slowly taking down the garden as he readies it for the winter nap.
George is doing much better on his medication for the dermatitis he’d developed. No more itching and he’s happy again.
A lone leaf on the dogwood tree. Within just a few short days, the dogwood has completely shed its leaves. Only a few stragglers remain.
Kim Klassen’s ‘framed’ texture applied. But I don’t remember what else I did although I’m sure it involved one of the vintage Florabella actions.
I made chicken salad for lunch, adding apples, red grapes and walnuts and serving it on toasted rustic bread slices.
One half would probably have been enough. But I ate the second half anyway.

So how’re things in your neck of the woods?

...Enjoy your weekend dear one...

Sounds like a lovely day there. Glad George is doing better!
I spent a bit of time getting a truckload of firewood from the back woods this afternoon and piled it in the garage/shed. Sunny and warm today (70s) but they're predicting 40s soon so I wanted to make sure I had plenty of good oak wood for the fireplace. So I had a good fall day here too - although more like Indian Summer. :)
same ole sam e ole here... my backspace is hanging up not making me happy... cleaning and preparing... for thanksgiving, the baby shower and mjs birthday... all this coming week....in that order LOL
It's very cold and foggy in Nebraska and I'm trying hard to resist the urge to hibernate.
That chicken salad would not have had a chance to be photographed if I was there;)
The pictures were great. Chicken salad looks and sounds very yummy.... have a super weekend.
Knitting, aye? Whatcha got going on?
Glad George is better! I think tomorrow we shall all descend upon your home for some chicken salad sandwiches. Stock up!
Plugging away. Working. (would I like a little whine with that? )Taking a break for a minute and back to work.
The bad news is I am out of chocolate to get me through. Oh the tragedy.
So peaceful here! I drove through Amish country today, and I wished I had a photographer like you along for the ride. I captured it in words, though, and maybe that will do! http://livewithflair.blogspot.com/2010/11/am-i-willing.html
That chicken salad looks scrumptious! Photo made my mouth water, awesome shot!
had a nice day...got to spend time with all 3 of my favorite guys....
love your photos..
Oh Kate, I loved this post...it was like reading a country novel...so serene and peaceful...the cat, the dog, the views.....the LUNCH...on "toasted rustic bread slices"....just beautiful...have a great evening....and you are knitting!!! :) ♥
What an entertaining "fun" post to read. Great pictures too!! I am still in the "throes" of trying to learn to download pictures to my blog and get them arranged the way I want them to be (they seem to have a mind of their own sometimes and "jump" around the page). I'm getting a handle on it slowly. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
I was having a great time...until you showed the food, now, I'm hungary.
The photo of the lone dogwood leaf is so lovely!
Had a knitting luncheon with some friends.
Only you, Kate, could take a picture of chicken salad on bread and make it into something glorious to look at and mouth-watering to boot!
With all the natural fall 'decorations' ouside, I was wondering if you decorate inside?
If so, how 'bout some pics before you put out your Christmas best!
Enjoy your Thanksgiving week...I hope you don't have to work this week...and have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!
I agree that November can be beautiful with its contrasts of bleakness and beauty. You've captured that so well.
Cool crisp mornings and warm afternoons here lately...of course, that can change at the drop of a hat!
So glad George is doing better-
Happy Thanksgiving dear!
Can't comment...drooling. Must have chicken salad on toast. Now.
Mmmm, that chicken salad looks delish! We are going into the city to take Katie out for her birthday, and I'm desperately trying to clean house for the holiday, even though it will only be us.
Oh, who am I kidding? Actually, I'm sitting here editing pictures and reading blogs! The dust can wait. lol
xoxo
It's been a while since I stopped by here to visit. I'm glad that George is better, though I was unaware of his itchiness. Your blog is always a calm, inspirational place to visit. It makes me want to take my dogs, bring my camera, and see what the morning brings outside. Our weather has been completely glorious, which has made winter preparations much more enjoyable.
Today's task list includes mulching the new garden of English roses, and watching football on TV while working on the layout for the garden of Miniature roses. Perhaps the weather will hold for a few more days so we can get some more planting done.

Yes, November is always a most interesting month. It is supposed to be about 55 today but will only be about 25 (for a high!) on Thanksgiving Day!
I think your black cat and, of course, George look very regal! And certainly a most majestic bird in the sky -- an eagle perhaps??!
Stay warm and thanks for stopping by my blog today. You know, I wondered the same thing about Ernie! And I never did see him among those 7,500 people!! But Bert was there and running! Much better than me -- who was very cold as I watched them all go by!
Beautiful images! I so look forward to your posts.
Got the house ready for the Thanksgiving crew and then drove a couple of hours to Phoenix to pick up grandkids. Let the fun begin!
Just staying inside by a cozy woodstove and eating pie, again. Although we did walk today. That must be nice to still be sitting outside and knitting in the sun. I'm so glad you ate that 2nd half, you need to practice up for Thanksgiving you know, plus it really didn't look like that much food to begin with! xo ~Lili
All sounds wonderful.
Our weekend was great our boys arrived fri even and left sunday late afternoon it was nice to have the gang all together again. Have a great day !
Things are really good here. Thanks for asking...
I would have eaten that second piece too and possibly a third because as the world knows, I have no self control!
Our weather was perfect today and should be tomorrow as well which is good... I want to get some outdoor photos taken.

I always love the pictures of Blackie. I've had a thing for black cats since the 2nd grade. :) Although I'm a dog gal I'm glad Blackie doesn't get left out!
We're still on the top side of the flower bed so life is good. May God keep it always so.
Such a joy to see happy George!
