No, you haven't arrived at the wrong site. It's still me, Country Girl. Today I was visiting New York City, where my eldest son resides. We drove there to take him home after a visit to see our new place. This is the view from the roof of his apartment, located in the Financial District, about 2 blocks from Ground Zero. If you look really closely, even click on the picture, you'll see scaffolding along the skyline at the far left at the bottom corner of this picture. The blue is the river and by the scaffolding, well that's where the World Trade Centers used to stand.
As I write this, it's late at night and although my other son and I arrived home hours ago, I've only just begun looking through my pictures from our visit today.
And, of course, I had to finish the final chapters in the Harry Potter series I've been reading. I'm done now, and I think I'll be able to get on with my life. Unfortunately, I'm out of disk space on the laptop and may have to go out tomorrow and get an external hard drive to store my massive photo files. I'm getting tired of transferring files to disks. Kacey, got any suggestions on photo storage?
So I'm just posting this one photo for tonight. I don't even have enough disk space to work in Photoshop, so this is it. I also have a pic posted on the Picture A Day blog, but don't get depressed about it. I wasn't! On our tour of my son's neighborhood, we ended up at Trinity Church which has one of the oldest graveyards in the city. I found myself completely drawn to it, couldn't leave actually, and had such a feeling of utter contentment that I can't even describe it. I think everyone was waiting for me just to move on and continue our tour, but I was mesmerized by the place. Annie, out of everyone, I think you'll understand.
Hopefully a new hard drive will help this low disk-space situation. Luckily, I have off from work tomorrow. It's my last Monday off until the new school year begins.
Until tomorrow, my friends.

My brother lived in the triangular shaped Delmonico building there for several years. What a great city to spend some years in!
Headed over to see the PAD - and yes I do understand the mesmerizing qualities of a graveyard. They really are wonderful!
Next time you're up, call! Maybe you, Mental P., Daryl, jules and I can meet for lunch! That would be fun! Or come see us by Metro North!
Awesome photograph! :)
Great shot, Kate! Do you back all your pictures up on disk? I've got to start backing up somehow... Maybe I need to talk to Kacey, too. :)
Wonderful...and Trinity Church is one of my favorite places downtown as well. And luckily survived 9/11 unscathed.
Kate, I have a Western Digital external hard drive. Two of them actually. I manually back up to one and use the Mac Time Machine to automatically back up to the other. (Mary did you see that? Use Time Machine with your new Mac)
I'm kind of anal about my photos. I burn them to DVD every so often and bring them over to my parents' house. You know, in case of fire here *g. KNOCK ON WOOD.
I love NYC. What a fun place to visit your son. Great view!
Mary, I've got about half of them backed up to disks but I hate disks. I want to invest in at least one (for now) hard drive on which to keep them.
Thanks, Kacey. I'm taking my son with me and heading out after my walk with George!

You've reminded me of how devastated I was when my hard drive crashed about 3 years ago. I have periodically backed up to disk...but not in a while. I must. I don't hate doing it, but it's not as convenient as an external drive would be. Can't afford one of those just now. So...where'd I stash those blank DVDs???
Beautiful shot, I love that city.
Oh how that made me miss New York. While we lived there I knew that it wasn't where I wanted to permanently reside and raise my kids, but there is, oh so much, that I miss about it.
I hope you had a good visit.
*hugs*
I back up to a Seagate Free Agent external drive. I have two with all my photos. However, I still have a bunch of the disks as well. I have a friend that lost all her photos on her external drive. It just failed unexplainably so I guess nothing is fool proof.
What a great view he has! Lucky you to have been able to visit - New York is on my list of places to see...some day.
My sister is an avid Harry Potter reader, too. Has every one of the books. Glad you enjoyed them.
I use different color storage sticks and keep them all on a key chain. Each theme, kid, etc...gets their own stick and right now they are super cheap. I loved the picture of New York...I felt so high up in the air and I haven't felt like that in a while. I hope you had a nice day off.
Great photo of the city Kate - your son has a wonderful view.
Any storage is fallible - just have to keep things backed up as well as you can and hope for the best.
i went to SAMS and paid 99 dollars for a 500 gb external hard drive to save things on... its small and easy to use and affordable!
very much easier than the fireproof 200 pound safe I have filled wih discs...
hugs Laura
...That is pretty. I can't even imagine what it must be like to be in New York City - incredible is all I can think... ;o)
...Blessings...
I was in New York City a couple of years ago for a work trip and I loved that place. I wish I had more time to explore. I remember touching down at the airport, dropping off our luggage and heading straight to catch a musical. I was so tired from the super long flight (I think about 24 hours?) I fell asleep halfway! It must be wonderful living in a big country where you get both city and country living :)
