Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker (and today ends my giveaway)

Sorry to have scared you with the horror of my texture mistakes in the post below, and thanks for all the input from readers. I've been reading up on Michelle Black's Flickr forum and am almost thoroughly confused. Nah, I'm only a little confused. It's all very new to me.

My giveaway ends tonight at 6 PM, so if you want to enter to win something free (I haven't yet decided what the secret prize is yet), then head down there and make a comment.

We had a little snow again last night and my husband had the camera out today taking photos. He's feeling much better than last week.

I love coming home and having him show me his pictures. He was excited to have caught this male Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker today. Well, he doesn't really get excited, per se. But he is sort of a bird nut. I realized this over 30 years ago when we first started dating. Geez, was it really that long ago?

Ok. I have to tell you one other thing. It's about my husband, so please don't tell him I told you this. He went upstairs just now to brush his teeth and came down and told me something. And well, you know how he shares his Chapstick with George? Well, tonight he brushed George's teeth. But thank God, he didn't use his toothbrush. He used a paper towel. He said that George seemed interested in having it done.

Um, yeah. I'm sure he did.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Kate you really need to let your hubby know that they do make doggie toothpaste and brushes. LOL. I think it's adorable that he does that.

Well there is nothing more important than dental hygiene...even the canines need fresh breath.

That's cute. ;-) Your (George's?) vet will totally approve of that, because dentals for animals are SO important!

Nice picture. I like the texture of the bark on the tree.MY sister had seven poodles and she used one of the sonic tooth brushes on them they didn't seem to mind. They had very clean teeth.

Kate, First, I am happy to hear that your husband is feeling better this week! :-)

The toothbrush that my sweet girl used to like me to use is this little rubber doggy brush that fits on your finger like a rubber thimble and it has little nubs that gently massages the gums and brush the teeth....she loved it...especially with doggy toothpaste....I am not sure what flavoring it was!

George is so darn beautiful....I just love when you photograph him and share it with us!! hugs, Cheryl

I think George has to be the best looking border collie I have ever seen in my life! I think it's so sweet the tender care your hubby takes w/ him - something so small as brushing his teeth.

Glad to hear that your husband is feeling better. It's nice to see some pictures from his adventures.

Ok, that does it. I am going to the pet store tomorrow and getting George his own little toothbrush and toothpaste. I think my husband will love it. Oh, and George too, of course.
You guys are the best with your suggestions!!

love the shots...and I've heard of brushing animals teeth but I'm not brave enough to do it with my cat.

Michelle Black is wonderful and her shots are so stylish.

Spent part of the morning making bluebird foodcakes for one of my bird feeders..I had gone out and saw a living rainbow of colors- a beautiful scarlet male cardial, a lemon yellow goldfinch, and a royal blue Eastern bluebird, all within a foot of each other..just had to get in and make food to entice the bluebird to stay..the others are regulars at my feeders. I love watching all the critters around my woods.

That was a fun story.

George looks like a teeth brushing kinda guy! We use to brush our cocker spaniel's teeth, he hated it but his breath stunk BAD...so we loved it. They even sell toothpaste designed for dogs.

Glad to hear your husband is feeling better and his photography is great. I think it's something I love about photography that even if you don't know someone you see the world through their eyes and gives you an understanding for that person.

Have a great weekend!!!

What a great dog..mine would think I had engaged in some sort of torture if I was to brush his teeth. And...say hello to the Lemonade Award! I tagged ya on my blog. ;o)

I'm all about doggie dental care. Our fur children get ther teeth professionally cleaned by our vet annually. That entails having them put into a twilight sleep while our vet scrapes tartar and polishes their teeth. Not sure if they like it, but at least their breath smells better :) Georgie is the most beautiful boy! You know I LOVE photos of him.

So glad your hubs is feeling better and enjoying photography. He is getting quite good with the camera. Everyone ought to have a hobby or two. But can he do mosaics? Actions? Textures? You are still the Queen, Kate!

I think George, like Trux, will let our husbands do anything!

Oh how I would love for my honey to just sit still long enough to bird watch, fish, etc.. With white teeth being the end thing now a days, George is just keeping up with the times. Our lab loves to have her's flossed, yes flossed.

I am glad to here that your husband is feel better. Both of you are in my thoughts and prayers daily.

Sap-sucker - what a lovely name for a bird - looks a bit like our woodpecker.
The vet says it is good to clean your dog's teeth - my terrier refuses to open her mouth if I ever go near her with a toothbrush - she seems to sense what I am going to do.

Well Kate you never fail to make me smile or laugh. I love the fact that your husband thought George seemed interested in having his teeth brushed. Funny. I am happy hubby is feeling a little better this week and loving the photos though.

We have the red headed sapsucker here. I have been enjoying watching him eat the suet I put out, but now a racoon has discovered it too and has knocked it down and eaten it all on 3 dirrerent occasions. I guess I will have to quit putting out suet. Tell your husband he needs to come to my house. My dog needs his teeth brushed too! Best wishes my friend. Doris
