Just one of those days

The Phillies’ Roy ‘Doc’ Halladay threw a no-hitter tonight in the first game of the national league playoffs in a history making move. Halladay becomes the second person in history to throw a postseason no-hitter joining Dan Larsen (1956). The fireworks are going off in Philadelphia tonight and I’m sure my sister is jumping out of her seat with excitement as she watches from home.

My sister Char is a total Phillies freak and she sometimes texts me while a game is on so that I can read it to my husband and then he tells me what to write back. It’s like I’m the middle man for their conversations and I don’t understand half of what they’re saying.

Survivor is on next, which makes it even more exciting here at the Casa de George. Unfortunately, Coach Jimmy Johnson was voted off last week and that evil gym teacher witch NaOnka is showing her true colors. She really gets on my nerves.

Here’s what I’m listening to right now:

Love this Nick Drake tune.

I like this one too: From the Morning

On my walk after work today, I loved that it was chilly enough to wear my Carhart vest over my sweater.

I took these photos to share with you.

It was one of those perfect English autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life.

And now a word about spam.

No blogger enjoys spam and Word Verification gets on my nerves almost as much. In late spring, I took the WV off of my comments and turned on comment moderation for posts over 7 days old. It seemed to finally do the trick as far as spam went. It was cut back almost completely but lately, it’s resurfaced in the form of Anonymous comments. To that end, rather than turn on the WV again, I’m going to try restricting the comment section to registered users only.

So, as of today, this blog will no longer accept Anonymous comments. It's easy enough to set up an account with Blogger or Open ID if you'd like to comment. We’ll see if that works. Anybody have any other advice?

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

I don't accept any anonymous comments any more either. And this ol' Yankee fan is cheering the Phillies tonight!

I'm so sorry you are having the spam problems. I have a few family members that comment anonymously, but haven't had spam problems. It's just a crying shame that nothing is sacred anymore, including blogs.

Great photos today... been rather chilly here but love it much more than summer temps.

Oops, that was the Blue Ridge Gal, not Rowdy... LOL.

Spammers = bad! That is too funny about being the middle man, I know nothing about baseball at all, I don't even know if I could be a middleman! Love your gorgeous blog, you are a great photographer! Happy to be your newest follower!

I love both of those songs, and your pictures! It was beautiful weather here today too! I hope the Anon spammer has been defeated! ;-)

Perfect pictures. It was in the eighties here in Oklahoma today. I'm ready for some cool temperatures.

Frank had me turn the TV on tonight in the ninth inning to see this. "You just witnessed history, baby!" Yeah, he was happy. He so wanted to one day catch a Jays game while Halladay still played for them but never got around to it. Anyway, he was pleased. I was pleased for him.. and for this Halladay guy too. ;)

I guess I have been lucky so far....I haven't had a problem with spam..but I think you should do whatever is easiest for you. Your blog is yours, and it should make you happy.

I was at my son's baseball game tonight (a bit chilly here in the South) freezing my buns offs when my husband called to tell me about the no hitter. We went to one of the last games played at the old Veteran's stadium and are Phillies fans, after the Braves of course! We were at the game this past Saturday when the Phillies stomped all over our Braves in Atlanta.

Anyway, I am just rambling and oh by the way, I have a Carhartt vest and love it!

I love the picture of the house through the trees. It must be a dream to live there.
Love that Nick Drake. First time hearing him.

my husband and I went out to dinner for our anniversary and ended up watching that no-hitter. (it's okay, I'm used to it). he was so excited, and he's a red sox fan.
I LOVE Nick Drake, especially when I'm outside.
great autumnal shots...

I was hit hard with the Chinese character spam for months and months. I switched to registered users years ago to prevent people from spewing whatever they wanted to anonymously. But some of those spammers ARE registered users. They use their ID for 24 hours or so, then delete that account and open yet another etc. So even word verification didn't help as they would put the letters in to leave their odd comments. Only when Blogger finally improved their filters a couple of months ago did it stop. I had resorted to comment moderation which I hated. Now, I still have the word verification, but at least people can leave and see their comments. Hope you can find a way to dissuade them Kate.

Same problem with the spammers here. I turned my word verification back on, and it's done the trick on the spam-bots so far ... I have Anonymous friends who comment, so I kept that as an option for now. Love the photo of your house through the trees!!!

That seems to work for me plus Blogger has added a new spam detector and those comments go in another folder...makes it a lot easier.

Beautiful pictures, enjoy your day!

Guess I must be lucky because I really don't have that much of a problem with spam. Knock on wood!

Jimmy J coaching was kind of annoying me so it was good to see him go. And Jimmy T, who is from Gloucester, was acting crazy so I guess he just HAD to go! Now if only that crazy chick would get the boot! Looking forward to next weeks show, though my husband isn't caring to much for this season.

Sorry to hear that you are having comment issues - no fun.

Like your sister, I'm loving the Phils win last night!

OMG is that NaNoka chick the worst - tackling the amputee is a new low in Survivor history - right down there with Jonny Fairplay faking his grandmother's death to get sympathy. I hope she's blindsided and gets voted off next.

Love your fall photos. Fall colors are the best.

I did that too, it was such a pain removing all the krud every day.

Luv the pictures. Don't care for baseball, football, basketball, golf or most sports on TV.

Spam must be the price you pay for being so popular my dear:) Hope this works....

I am a little relieved that the Red Sox are out of it so that I can relax instead of getting all worked up about each game:)...

As usual your photos are lovely. I was kind of hoping to see one of you wearing the carhart vest though. Love autumn! ~Lili
