Today, I walked around the property twice and then came inside and played on Photoshop for awhile, fooling around with some pictures I’d taken over the weekend that I didn’t think were all that.
But I’m ok with them now, I guess.
For this, I ran TRA's Rusty Cage action and then followed up with one by Red Leaf Studio called Sweet Umber. I topped it off with a SkeletalMess texture. And now I like it much better.
I used to be able to do this thing called a mouseover technique to show you what the original version of the photo was when you moved your mouse over it, but since going to Blogger in Draft, I haven’t been able to get the code to work properly.
So here’s the original and the finished version, side by side. I was going for brown tones and by gum, I got it.
I like the SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) version, too.
I fooled around until dinner time when my husband called me to the kitchen.
Never at any point in my life did I ever think I would have someone cook for me every night and for this, I am blessed. And what’s even better is that nine times out of ten, it’s really very good.
Here’s something different. I did this one two ways because when I was finished with the first one, I thought it looked a little heavy-handed. But I sort of liked it that way.
Red Leaf’s Beach Glass action, Kim Klassen texture here.
So I did it a second way, using lighter textures and a softer hand.
TRA’s Oh, Snap! action, followed by two SkeletalMess textures, Bokeh2 and Falling Apart.
Which one do you prefer? I mean, if you were forced to answer.
Not that I’m forcing you.
Old grape stems here.
Please people, try to control your excitement.
The same Michelle Black texture with a different blend mode. I think the top was hard light and the one above is soft.
Or maybe this is just too much information? I can actually see some of you squirming in your seats out there.

I’d like to remind those that are still awake that my Giveaway ends Wednesday night at 6 PM. Check it out if you haven’t already done so!Until later, my friends . . .

I like the "heavy-handed" one better, which, frankly, surprises me. :-)
Thanks, Michelle. I like the colors in that one.

I love the first one, too. And I so wish some man would make me dinner....
i like the heavier one but i would lasso and gaussian blur over the stem/beards a bit. but that's me playing around. :)
You are a visual master!

Is Photoshop needed to use the textures you use? I have Photoshop Elements and I use Coral Pro and I've never tried using textures {not that I'd know how to} but would love to learn:)
I'd probably go with the heavier hand one because of the colors as well... I've GOT to try textures. Love them... and what a difference they can make to an image!
I love seeing the way other people process photos...I like them all but the first one is perfect. And I would pick the lighter hand version, since you asked.
Ugh I am still awake, but your pictures made it all worth it! I love both your "heavy-handed" version and the lighter, softer version, they both rock!
Kat :)
I like the first one too..it speaks to me! You are all that AND a bag of chips:))
I like them both, actually, for different reasons, but if forced to choose I'd go with the first one.
I REALLY like the one with the grain or wheat or whatever that is with the words textured in!
If I squirm when I view your photos, it is with enjoyment...ewwww, that sounded sick!
You know the difficulty I have with choosing!!! They all tie for first place.
How can a girl be expected to CHOOSE? I like the queen anne's lace and would give it to my mom if I won because it reminds me of growing up on the farm. (And if I don't, I might buy one anyway.) I might also have to snag the silver butter knife on the napkin because I know where you took it!
I'm not squirming - I love your "recipes" for photos. You've given me toys to play and ideas how to use them. And I'll go for the first one too. The Kim Klassen textures with text are lovely. Thanks for sharing.
...Oh I like the heavy handed one better. I love the juxtaposition of the feathery subject against the harsh background... Yeah, that's what I said. ;o)
...Like MPM up there, I wish I had a man to cook for me too! Lucky girl! :o)
...Blessings... :o)
Love the heavy handed approach, this is awesomeness.
I like the lighter approach to the wheat. . .
And 'Please people, try to control your excitement' made me laff and laff.
Amazing what can be done with old grape stems...a work of art, for sure.
I think they are all lovely, My hubby is into water droplets with the camera capturing the effect of the drop in mid air falling and all the types of rippel effects in the water below and then some what photoshops it ! Have a great day !
Personally, my very favorite is the first withered grape stem. They're all loverly as always.
I love all your work....honestly though, I am a SOOC girl....oh I tweat contrast a bit...and maybe saturation...but I think this dates me as it is a result of many years of film work.....I feel old now....smiles.
I like the first one. love the colors and texture. Have a beautiful day.
IF........I had to choose, I'd choose the first grape stem but, waaaaaaaay too hard to choose. I love the fun you have with your blog and photos.
I'm squirming in my chair only because I just don't find the time for doing textures. So many other things just get in the way of my FUN time. These all look nice, Kate!

Oh how I love textures!! And I found Shadowhouse creations through you. Thank you so much for that :)
Both.
I hear ya about it getting dark so early. I've been having to come in extra early so that I can leave and have enough light to ride the horses.
Wheat #2m Grapes #1 .. and Shady Lady to place at Pimlico ;-)
Interesting what you can do with the same picture. I like the heavier handed ones better, but both are nice. Who could imagine what nice pictures could result from an old grape stem and a single stalk of grass. Nice work!!!
I love winter except for the fact that already, it's dark when I leave work, and aside from some brief light in the morning when I leave, I don't see the sun at all. I long for weekends when I have all day to venture outside in the light.
Oooh, you're so clever. I wouldn't have the patience to do all that photoshop stuff, it's too technical for me.
Just had word from Lulu that my calendar is on it way; really looking forward to getting that, although we have no deliveries at the moment because of the bad weather.
Also, I'm doing a giveaway on my blog and would hate for you to miss out and be in with a chance.

I've recently become a texture addict - in part as a result of looking at your creations!
Of the first two, I adore the one on the right (with the brown tones)...of the one which looks like wheat/grass, I prefer the lighter hand version...and the grapes, I can't decide...like them both!
thank you for helping introduce me to textures - I am having so much fun!
My favorite is the first old grape stems! Angi
Each of those photos is mind-blowingly gorgeous - I'm so envious of how you can take everyday items and make them magical.
I know or understand virtually nothing about photography! I do recognize good work and I love your photos and I really love these textures! I love the cardinal--it reminds me of the best things about this time of year.

I'm not Squirming in my seat! I'm taking notes! I love the heavy handed version. The fact that your had dinner waiting while you Photoshopped will not go unmentioned!
I recently took a photo of a pie e of rope hanging on a fence and my hubby thought it was a bit weird. Not me!
I like the "heavy-handed" one, but then I tend to go for saturated and dramatic... Love the grape branches, too. You are such an artist! ;)
xoxo
Can't decide between the two which is my favorite, but perhaps I'm leaning a little toward the heavy one. Oh and yes you are so blessed to have your husband cook for you, especially when it's delicious! xo ~Lili
Never too much information in my mind! I'm learning so it is always interesting and helpful...and I would choose the light handed treatment...
