I wish I had more time to spend on the North Fork of Long Island, where I spent this past weekend. I was just so taken with the area and some day hope to go back and go all the way to the end, where Orient Point is situated.
Here are more scenes from Greenport, a charming waterfront village.
Town clock by the post office (the roof in the background) and the old-fashioned carousel on Front Street.
The beach in the early morning. I loved seeing the leaves among the stones.
This bench along Main Street makes me want to sit for a spell in the warm sunshine.
Loved this banjo-playin’ street musician. We all stopped to sing a song with him.
I love the feel of history about a place and enjoyed looking at these old photos at Bruce’s Cheese Emporium & CafĂ© along Main Street. Note the ceiling and the little brass bell at the top of the door.
I have a thing for mermaids, too. I have this one in a print by John William Waterhouse.
Sweet Indulgences on Main Street, a shop with the most beautiful gardens fronting it.
I took a walk down Carpenter Street off of Main and came to this rustic old sign. Lots of boats in the yard, too.

On another note, our dear dog has developed a flea allergy dermatitis. I’ve read that it often presents at age 3-5. Even if he has one single flea on him, he will be bothered by the bite. It’s not the flea that does the damage, but the incessant itching that ensues afterward. It’s my fault for not remembering the drops last month. And I have to do it in secret because SOMEONE doesn’t believe in doing the drops. Don’t even get me started on that.
George is on an antibiotic and a steroid now which I don’t like but had to do. He’s sleeping soundly as I write. We had a dog years ago, another border collie, that had FAD (flea allergy dermatitis). George will always have this, according to the literature I just read. Poor little pup.
Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Long Island is beautiful, a little biased since I spent quite a bit of my childhood there. The south fork is lovely too... Montauk is at it's tip.
Poor George, hope he feels better soon!
I'm sorry for little George. I hope you can control it so he's comfortable.
poor george.....poor you.....and what a wonderful little get-away you had....and a beautiful one at that !
The photographs are just terrific...what a pretty place. And I'm so sorry about your pup. That's a nasty condition, for sure. Keeping him as comfy as possible is the thing to do.
Hi there,
This is a question for the webmaster/admin here at chroniclesofacountrygirl.blogspot.com.
Can I use part of the information from your post above if I provide a link back to this website?
Thanks,
Thomas
My dog has that too...I feel your pain :(
Gorgeous photos as usual...love the leaf on the pebbles...so calming!
I sincerely hope George is on the mend.
I'm sorry that George has the itches. Let's hope that he gets better ASAP!!
Aww. Big hugs for George, and a doggy hug from Tara, she has it too. If I don't treat fast, she ends up with a bald patch on her bum. Poor pooches, it must be horrible.

Poor George. :c(
What a charming little town there. Thanks for taking us along Kate.
Pretty pictures. You certainly had a beautiful weekend to go to LI.
So sorry to hear about George. If you need a veterinary dermatologist, i can recommend a wonderful one. He treated Maxie for years with her severe ragweed allergy. And he works in Delaware one day a week.

Your photos are gorgeous! Looks like a very pretty area. Don't you love to go exploring with your camera?
Oh! and poor George!!!
Years ago I had a dog with a terrible flea allergy. She would scratch herself raw. Then I changed her food and within a month, her skin started clearing up and she was never bothered by them again. Apparently, if they are not getting all they need from their food, it makes them more susceptible to other issues. (I had been feeding Purina Pro Plan and switched to Nutro Natural Choice.)
Good luck with George!
I always enjoy the photos you take. Such vivid colors and a great eye....you're such an inspiration!
Awww, poor George. Not fun. Hope the meds keep his itching at bay. Will it be worse during the winter months for him?
Poor baby.

Eddie has some kind of skin thing......don't know if it is fleas or not.....but at least twice a year, we have to give him Prednisone, or he will tear his skin off........it does work so wonderfully though, doesn't it? A miracle drug for sure.
Poor George. I don't blame you with the steroids...we have had to do that twice with our pup. Anyhow, thanks for the great shots. I live so close but have never been out that way.
Hope he feels better soon !
Your photos and post are wonderful.
I to love the history of towns and villages! Have a great day!
Poor George - and just keep on w/those drops despite the controversy.
The photo of the beach with the leaf is beautiful. What a gorgeous rocky beach! My mom collects rock from the beaches she visits - the ones from Ireland are spectacular - and she'd definitely come home with a bunch from this beach!
Beautiful! And that reminds me of another pup who is due for her Frontline.....
oh, that stone photo is phenomenal.
Love the town photos. Sorry about George. We do flea treatments but only once a year or so. Our dogs haven't gotten a flea in forever.
once again LOVE the pictures. That's it I'm definitely going to the east coast one day!!
Get some rest George, those nasty fleas can be a real pest.
All I can say is thank God for Frontline!
Your village photos are beautiful...I have been there but it was quite some time ago now...Many of our friends sail there...but our sailboat is too little:(
Poor Georgie, you take care of him Momma.
Beautiful pictures!
Beautiful images Kate! Looks like a fabulous place to visit!
PS - Poor George. Will you give him a big kiss for me?
Sorry to hear about George!! I hate when doggies are sick. Makes my heart hurt!!
Beautiful pictures! I want to visit!!
Is Orient Point further out than Montauck (which I thought was at the very tip of LI)
Lovely village tour Kate - but sorry to hear about poor George. One of our sheepdogs has had very bad sore eyes and has had an antibiotic and steroids - the eyes are clearing up and the steroids have worked wonders, so hope the same is true for George.
what a lovely place, in many ways, it reminded me of my hometown, we have a small lake, similar shops.
poor george. one of my cats has the same problem, i feel so bad for her.
stupid fleas.
Thanks so much for the tour -- what a beautiful place! Can you believe I've never been to Long Island?! The drive is a killer in the summer, and we've never thought to go in the off season...
Hope George is feeling better, soon, poor pup! give him a hug for me. :)
xoxo
Gorgeous photos.
Georgeous flea woes.
So sorry to hear about the latter.
Tell Someone that you're going to step on more than a watermelon if he doesn't get with the flea prevention program.
My dog is little & I think he had a "reaction" the 2 times I did the drops. We have been lucky but he has had a few fleas this summer too!! Poor George.
Love your pictures as always.
Gorgeous Kate. Love it (except for the fleas)
Kate, I am so sorry to hear about George's flea allergy ~ that makes me sad. xoxoxo for sweet georgie.
btw: I always love seeing the places you visit...you are quite a traveler Ms. Kate!
Very pretty place indeed! And so glad you're nipping that flea allergy thing in the bud for your sweet George. xo ~Lili
Beautiful! I've never been there but you make me wish I could go. Love your photos as always.
Looks like you had a wonderful time last weekend! So sorry to hear about poor little George. I hope he's feeling better now!
Kat :)
hope sweet George is doing better ..I love it when you travel Kate..these photos feel like I am right there with you..so nice!!
Did you hop on the ferry to Shelter Island? The North Fork is often overlooked for the Hamptons on the South Fork.
