My addiction

It's 11 pm and I've been putting off doing my post because, well because, I have an addiction. It's not my bucoholism this time, but rather oh, hell. I'm just going to come out and say it.

I am addicted to Harry Potter books. Gah!

You probably don't think this is a big deal. But it's getting in the way of things. I should be doing other things like oh, say getting my vehicle registered in the new state in which I live, or maybe getting a bank account set up closer to my new home. How about getting my PA license? What I really should be doing this week is cleaning and getting my house ready for the weekend because we're having my husband's entire side of the family over for dinner on Saturday. That's just a few days away! And my eldest son is also coming to see our new place. I'm picking him up at the train station Friday evening. It's Wednesday night and I don't even have the guest room ready.

You'd think I would be busy trying to get all this done. But do you know what I've been doing all evening?

Reading.

I even read when I throw George's doggie toys to him. I mean, I cheer him on occasionally but it's bad, I tellya. Bad.
While I'm driving home from work, which, by the way, I love to do, I'm thinking about reading. I really enjoy driving. But I can't wait to get here and get the few chores out of the way so I can SIT DOWN AND READ THE DAMN BOOK.

Have they put charms or hexes on these books, to make unsuspecting persons addicted to them?
I don't know what's going on. All I know is that I started reading the first book just before my son was in the hospital a few weeks ago, and I'm almost finished book 6. Have you seen how thick these books are? I have read almost 6 books in three weeks time.

At least I'm still finding time to take pictures and take the poor unsuspecting pup for his walks. He has no idea what a nut I am.

Um, I think.

Been there done that. I started reading them when I had my first baby. I'd keep one in the car and if he was asleep when we got somewhere I would just read till he woke up, I loved it.

Yep, been there too. Only I reread the first books every time a new one was coming out, so I've read book 1 6 times, etc down the line. And I've watched all 5 movies the same way. So, we're getting pretty close to having the lines memorized.

My wife was addicted to Harry Potter, I think she still is, but now she sneaks the books in late at night when no one is watching. I enjoyed it, but once the story was told I was done with it. There are books I can read over and over again, the kind that really capture my imagination, but that one finished the story.

It's a wonderful addiction though, a lot of people identify with it.

Yes, I LOVED all those books! My daughter is even worse -- she has reread them countless times. Can't wait for the movie. :)

Good luck with the cleaning. I always leave it till the last minute, and HATE every minute of it, too. LOL

Mary

I'm happy to know I'm not the only adult captivated by these books. And I reread them too!

I am impressed with your speed reading abilities. Your addiction could be much worse;)

I too, am a huge fan of the Harry Potter books. I have all the books in hardcover and the monkeys have only the paper back versions...tehe...I love the movies as well. I am a voracious reader of copious amounts of literature. We should start a book swap or something. Stand tall HP fan...I heard something about a small sequel or prequel or something and Disney is opening a Harry Potter Theme Park in the Summer of 2009! Can not wait.

Hmmmm............
Would you believe I've not read any of them and I haven't seen any of the movies?

It's Twu! It's Twu!

Sorry.... I had to summons my inner Lilly Von Schtupp. :)

OH. MY. GOSH.

I feel so much better now. I can't believe how many Harry Potter fans have replied. And do you want to know something? I was up late reading last night and couldn't get up this morning and I WAS LATE TO WORK!!! Late to work because of a book. This has to stop.

And Starwoodgal, I can't believe you're quoting Lily Von Schtupp! Blazing Saddles is one of my all-time favorite comedies. Madeline Kahn was priceless in that role!

A Harry Potter theme park at Disney? Wow.

Whoa - really? A Harry Potter theme park? I must be first in line! I am a literary addict myself, and not just about Harry Potter. I am obsessed with reading the Stephanie Meyers vampire books. A movie is being released this year about the first of the 4 book series. I just finished reading The Host. OMG! I would stay up until the wee hours of the morning READING and have to be up at 5:30 for work. Arghhhh! I simply can't help myself! But I guess there are worse addictions than reading.

Books suck me in like that too and the Harry Potter ones are good! Good luck getting ready for company. I tend to find lots of things to do besides clean and then the day before people get here I look like a chicken with her head cut off, trying to accomplish what I should have worked on all week!
*hugs*

If a book is good, I'm like that. I get sucked in and rarely come up for air. Never got into the HP books though. Maybe I should give them another try...

I love to read so much that I have purposefully made myself stay away from Harry. All of my kids and my husband blazed through these books. I just know I would not get ANYTHING done if I began. But perhaps I will one of these years. I have watched all of the movies that have come out so far and loved them.
