My experimentation with texture layers continues. Thanks for coming along for the ride. I've made some bad choices at times, but hopefully am only posting my good ones. And thanks to you, my fantastic readers, I think I've made my choice for the donation I'm making to our school's Auction this year.
I wanted to donate a framed print, but have decided instead upon a standout of either this print, in a 16X24 OR the one you see here. For the last Auction, which is held every three years, I donated several handmade scarves.
Thanks also to Mary, who got me started on this whole texture thing and for sending me this link to Joy St. Claire Photography, who explains how to remove texture from the original photo underneath.
I'd wanted to learn how to remove some of the texture layer away from the original photo. And Joy explains how to do this. For those who write and say that they want to learn Photoshop, I want to tell you that I didn't purchase this program. My eldest son had PS2 and had used it for architecture school. He downloaded it into my laptop when he was home for the holidays last December, gave me a quick 15 minute instruction, and then I was on my own.
I was frustrated, confused, and scared I'd mess everything up and ruin my pictures. But I slowly began learning, mostly through tutorials I found on the internet, but also from Pioneer Woman's site. My original attempts were very heavy-handed and some were downright bad when I look back on them. And a year from now, I may look back on this and cry "what was I thinking?"
But I hope not.

I have CS2 as well, a copy my hubby downloaded on my computer. No lessons for it either, just play your way to getting it! I did go out and buy a book and I have to start working my way through that.

Kate......I want to play with texture, too!!!! I just bought the Nikon D40....but I don't have a software program. I am a novice, and don't want to buy something that is WAY over my head.
Instead of Photoshop, could I do texture and fun stuff with Elements? Or something not as difficult as Photoshop?
I love this photo but I think I like the daisy better. But you know that either one of these will be wonderful for the auction. So beautiful. I am liking those textures.
You never cease to amaze me. Both images are lovely. But I think the daisey is more fitting given that we are all aching for Spring, and the colours are lighter and more vibrant. I might go with the darker colours in the tulip in the fall. JMO, they are both beautiful works.

The whole area of creating texture is very interesting - I think you could get really hooked on it. I like the tulip one. I would guess the difficulty would be in making the textured background so interesting that you fail to look at the focal point - but you have avoided this with the tulip by making it so vibrant. Enjoy your discoveries.

I will not tire of your texture strokes on your photography. have you tried printing any of these yet to see what the final presentation looks like?
This one is beautiful, but I personally like the daisy best I think. i like the bright colors of it. This tulip one is awesome too though, seems to have a bit of mystery to it!
I do love the rose, but the daisy is so very light-hearted. Would look great in my office or my spare bedroom.. I think it's the blue I like so much.
