Today, as I was driving home from work, a fawn ran out right in front of my car at the top of our driveway. Then it skipped across the lawn before diving into the edge of the woods. It’s always such a sweet surprise to see a fawn. I guess the car startled the poor little thing and I’m hoping that its mother has caught up with it by now.

We had some blessed rain again today and it cooled things off nicely.

Late this afternoon, our Board of Trustees held a going-away party at a local restaurant for our Head of School who is retiring. The room we were in was quite full and getting a little loud when I saw one of the waiters looking for the person who ordered the lone drink left on his tray. I asked him if I could help him and he told me that he couldn’t recall who had ordered this margarita.

I make most of the announcements at school, so when I said, “May I have your attention, please” the entire room quieted. And then I said that the waiter here needs to know who ordered the margarita.

The whole room burst into laughter when our sweet, soft-spoken and demure librarian raised her hand and said in her quiet voice, “it was me”.

I tried apologizing to her for focusing all the attention her way but she was a good sport about it and actually thought it was pretty funny. I bet she’s a wild child at heart. And then she let me taste her drink and I ordered one for myself because it was so darn yummy.

Then I set it down to take some photos and couldn’t find it again.

I took the sunflower photograph yesterday afternoon following a nice rain. The sun had just come out and was making all the little raindrops on the leaves sparkle in the light, making the perfect bokeh.

bokeh (pronounced /boʊ'kɛ/) is the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light."                                                ~ Wikipedia

What a beautiful photo of the sunflower--every aspect of the picture is just perfect. Such a cute story (even librarians need a drink once in a while). Have a lovely weekend. Mickie :)

Absolutely beautiful shot - my husband stopped and said, now I love that - did you do it? No honey. :)

Oh, I love the fawns. A local lady found one in her garage and local wildlife folks told her to take it to the edge of the woods and leave it. That it's mother probably would find it. She said she went back later and it was gone. Hopefully a happy ending.
A beautiful sunflower and the bokeh is exquisite!

I wonder if that quiet librarian ended up with two of those margaritas:)

Love all that bokeh!!

I have fake sunflowers in a large vase in my kitchen year round... so that tells you how I feel about them. :-))) Mine aren't nearly as pretty as the real thing in your photo though.

Oh sweet story, now I want a nice frosty drink! Your sunflower is beautiful. Do you ever have problems with the Gold Finch? They eat the leaves right down to the veins, the flowers don't have a chance!

This is my favorite photo of yours......I love sunflowers, and I love the stage you caught this one at.
Bokeh or no bokeh.

I have been following your blog for almost a year now but have never taken the time to comment. I usually take some time in the evening to play which is when I visit yours and one other blog. I am ALWAYS touched by your posts and photographs. I truly wish you could be my photo buddy. I am a fellow Marylander and hope we can meet some day.

I can't believe you have sunflowers! Our summer in Portland, Oregon has been so gloomy and depressing! My lilacs didn't even bloom during our very cold spring and our hydrangeas are no where near blooming! Coming to your site sure makes me miss the east coast. Thank you as always.

Hehehe, cute story Kate, I´ll bet she was a wild child at heart too...I miss a good margarita. Haven´t had one since Texas...mmmm...

The photo is lovely and thanks for teaching me a new word...yet I still don´t understand why one couldn´t just say, blurry background....but I guess the other word sounds much fancier...(can´t even remember the other word enough to spell it correctly- embarrassing but such is my brain these days...)

Have a great weekend and please DO NOT send anymore rain this way...keep it on your side of the Atlantic please :-)))

I have a whole shoebox full of different kinds of sunflower seeds, thinking that one year I will finally plant my field of sunflowers. I have the sunshine and the space, but I have not had the energy ... too much going on. Maybe NEXT year things will be a bit calmer. Your photo is beautiful!

Mama let me raise a baby fawn that Daddy found when I was a little girl. Sometimes she could come in the house--but I think the hunters got her when she was older. Sometimes it's better things stay wild. :( Her name was Baby-and now my cat's name is Baby--what the heck is wrong with me? I'm really inventive, aren't I! Good grief.
