I carry your heart

I took some pictures this morning . . . this typical spring morning. And by that I mean that it finally feels like spring SHOULD feel. It’s a chilly, damp day here in Maryland, but I’m not letting the chill get me down. I’m not, because the earth is turning green, and the leaves on the trees are bursting forth.

One thing I’d like to note is that this post marks the first time that I’ve shared images taken on the camera’s full manual mode. When I first began blogging back in 2007, and for several years after, I primarily used the auto dial. I have no shame in admitting this fact because you can get some awesome images  using the auto dial. But I always wanted to learn more. So eventually, I went to P mode (Priority), then crept up to the A mode (Aperture), and now I’m proud to say that I took a big gulp and advanced to M.

My friend, Reena, gave me the final nudge.

The violets are blooming and they’re all over the yard. And I’m totally crushing on the dreamy manor house bokeh here. It was exactly what I was trying to achieve as I laid on the ground and adjusted my aperture dial.

Another shot from where I was laying.

I carry a mat with me when I plan on shooting from the ground. It keeps my jeans and my jacket clean.

The azaleas are about to burst forth.

I found these two hiding at the back of the bush.

"The March wind roars
Like a lion in the sky,
And makes us shiver
As he passes by.
When winds are soft,
And the days are warm and clear,
Just like a gentle lamb,
Then spring is here."

I have a thing for border collie bokeh.

All of today’s images were processed using Florabella’s Tea Time, from the Luxe II Collection. It’s a dreamy, soft action that I felt was just right for the mood.

Here is the deepest secret no one knows.

Here is the root of the root . . . and the bud of the bud . . . and the sky of the sky of a tree called life . . . which grows higher than the soul can hope . . . or mind can hide. It is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart.

I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart.

I hope you have a beautiful weekend, my friends. And I thank you for stopping by my small corner of the universe here.

Cheers ~

Oh, once you start shooting manually it will be hard to go back! Love me some manual!!
Is that little purple blossom the start of lilacs? It is beautiful! I am off today to find some elusive cherry blossoms. Everything is very late in starting to bloom here. Long winter keeps dragging on....

Learning to REALLY use the camera is on my list to learn for this summer. Beautiful shots. You certainly captured the best this dreary spring morning had to offer.

You will love manual! Plus the great thing about digital is the delete button while your practicing!

you sound very proud of yourself and you should be!!!!! love all the pictures of course, but my goodness..... George just jumped out and grabbed my heart on that last one :)

PS: I just wanna say that the live feed thingy kind of freaks me out a bit.... how does it know where I am!! kind of like when I called in a take out order from a chain restaurant and the guys asked me if I wanted the same thing I had last time.....

Great photos , good for you with the camera ! I have always had my camera on manual and the lens on auto , I seem to do a lot of movement photos so for me the lens on auto is faster and I can achieve my shot , well I hope I do ! I also leave my camera on continous so I can take multipul shots if need to be ! I also am playing around with the F stop and the shutter speed , a lot of trial and erro I tell ya but its fun ! The weather here sounds the same as there , chilly a bit damp spring like . Have fun with your camera and get out there and get snap happy ! Would love for you to have a peek at my photography blog .http://kandewoodphotography.blogspot.ca/ Have a great day !

Lovely photos as always. Just got through watching "In Her Shoes". I love that last scene when that poem is read. One of my favorites.

Kate,
Beautiful photos! What lens were you using? I have been playing with manual, and sometimes love them, sometimes, not so much... now I am working with my 85 mm lens. A love hate relationship. I am forcing myself to keep it on so I truly learn it! grrrrr
"I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart." It is my poem to Kenny.

azaleas are beautiful this time of year. Everything here has been budding out. We have had some much needed rain to help out mother nature. George seems to be enjoying spring as well.

That is the million dollar question. Keep up the wonderful work.

3 cheers for manual mode. Once you have learned (M) mode you'll find that you'll love all the new found camera control. Your spring photos are just fantastic, exposures spot on. I especially enjoy your write up for each images. You're my new hero blogger.

Oh, thanks all. I go through phases with my photos and right now it's a dreamy phase with shallow depth of field.

Cheryl, I used my 60mm macro lens for these shots. I also have a 50mm lens. Good luck with the 85mm. I don't have one of them ~

Wow Kate, you done good in the M mode! I still haven't quite graduated to that yet but even though my camera looks and can act like a dslr it's really still a point and shoot.

Awesome photos! I thought the same thing today, it finally feels like spring. Not summer or winter, but spring.

Are you planning on going to Maine this year? I was thinking about standing on the side of the highway and waving a banner as you fly by ; )

Wow, beautiful, Kate! You have every right to be proud of these images. Love the azalea ones. Oh, and the violets! So sweeeeet. :)

Your small corner of the world looks absolutely infested with wonderful vioets. Lucky old George - he is nearer to the smell than you are (unless you are lying on the ground of course) - tread carefully George.

When I need a dose of beautiful calm tranquil bliss all I need to do is come take a peek at your lovely photos and I leave your page with a smile on my face....

I am by no means a photo genius but I rarely use auto because the flash is constantly on auto around here..so I shoot mostly in P. But now I am inspired to try A and M...thanks for the inspiration sweetie...maybe someday in the loooooong away future I´ll get brave enough to try some texture on my photos...

Have a lovely Sunday...

You are braver than I!? I am up to Aperture priority, but to try to manage the shutter and all that in addition overwhelms me. When I finish my grad school classes, but first goal is an advanced photo class to learn more about my settings. You photos are always gorgeous.

It is funny to read this because I just started to use manual too...after using P and Av for a long time. I have started because of the instructor in the class I'm taking this spring insists:) I only wish the photos I take were half as good as yours! I never would have known you didn't use manual all the time. Love these soft dreamy shots!

Spring has been a very odd season over here for us. Well, for us in the north east at any rate! We've had some incredibly nice weather but we've been desperate for rain to help the crops grow. And now it looks like we may get snow. The planet is most certainly changing.

Beyond gorgeous -- Every. Single. One. I'm so glad you noted what action you used, too. Teatime is one of my favorites. I love the shallow dof and beautiful bokeh you've captured! And e. e. Cummings, too. Sigh*. xoxo
