A long week

I was angry this afternoon. Things happened that I couldn’t foresee, like having to cancel my credit card after having my account compromised. Luckily, it was caught in time, but not before several charges had occured. I felt too busy, like things were spinning out of control and I found myself driving fast, too fast.
I knew I had to slow down. So after dinner, for which I was late, I folded some paper cranes. I thought they would help me relax.

But they really didn’t.

I just got pissed off even more.

It’s probably because I’m not completely adept at making them. So what I did was to visit my blog friends to see what they were all up to. And that helped.

Hey, see the photo above? That’s not the moon. But doesn’t it sort of look like it could be? Just a little . . .

I knew every bird here and only had to look one of them up. It’s because I don’t see it here that often. Above we have a tufted titmouse with a seed in its beak.

The one that I had to look up - it’s a Northern Mockingbird.

Downy woodpecker, female. And she’s got her fuzz going on. A few seconds later, it was flat again.
My husband says that the way he remembers which is smaller, the downy or the hairy woodpecker, is because down is short. And something hairy would be longer. So the downy woodpecker would be the smaller of the two.

It makes sense to me.

I’m going to take the weekend off from blogging. I’ve cancelled the car appointment so that I can spend some time with my sister, Char.

And while I’m gone, I have a few questions for you ~
1. What is something you’re really good at doing?
2. What’s your best physical attribute?
3. What is your favorite section of the newspaper?
4. Do you often feel limited by your financial state with how you spend your free time?
5. How much junk food is in your cupboards?

Inquiring minds want to know. So I’ll see you in the comment section, my friends.

~ : : ~

Your answers always surprise me and I love reading them, as well as responding to them. If you don’t have your e-mail enabled, however, I won’t be able to respond. If you have a blog, go to your Dashboard>Edit Profile>Show My E-Mail Address. Or, if you prefer, just leave your e-mail address at the end of your comment.

Cheers ~

1. What is something you’re really good at doing?
I'm really good at handling my job when we're really busy in the front office at my school.

2. What’s your best physical attribute? People tell me it's my hair. I'm not so sure.

3. What is your favorite section of the newspaper? Arts/Books.

4. Do you often feel limited by your financial state with how you spend your free time?
Not really. Just sometimes. I'd love to be able to surprise my husband with a trip to somewhere he's always wanted to go. But other than that, it's fine.

5. How much junk food is in your cupboards? Not much, really. Some pita chips. Homemade cookies. Oh, I noticed ice cream in the freezer today. Thank God it's vanilla. (not my fave).

1. I'm really good at cooking. Desserts, most people have said.

2. People most compliment my curly hair and green eyes, I would agree.

3. I would say the Community section, where they list things going on in the community. (Our town is so small that the newspaper only comes out once a week!)

4. Definitely.

5. Not much. Refer to answer of question #4. It's the end of the month, the budget is crying out and so there are only kid snacks...gummies, granola bars, chips for lunches. That's about it. Oh, except C and I finished off the Oreos last night. Hee hee.

1. What is something you’re really good at doing? Laundry. I don't mind doing it - evening ironing!

2. What’s your best physical attribute? My eyes. They're poop brown, but nice.

3. What is your favorite section of the newspaper? Daily - the comics because that's where the puzzle section is. Sunday it's the entertainment section for the Merl Reagle crossword puzzle.

4. Do you often feel limited by your financial state with how you spend your free time? Now, a bit. My husband's been out of work for a year and it's not fun.

5. How much junk food is in your cupboards? A bag of Reese's peanut butter eggs. Do they count????

Have a wonderful weekend with your sister.

1. Teaching piano to children.
2. Shoulders.
3. Arts & Entertainment. (I'm very shallow!)
4. I suppose I would attend more events if we had more money. But I'm also happy reading a good book or spending time with family.
5. Not too much. We do have chips this week because I made taco salad.

Hmmm.

1. I'm stumped on that one. When I was a working gal, I was really good at details. Now that I've been butt-sitting? Loving my pets and surroundings.

2. My smile.

3. Metro/local section (same Dallas paper as Deb above)

4. Not now. Have been enjoying unemployment for a while now and hoping to stretch it a bit longer.

5. Too much (since hubby's been home for the last month instead of on the road for his job) - there's peanut M&M's, Twizzlers, potato chips, corn chips, ice cream in the freezer, oh, and an Italian cream cake on the counter... I always lose a few pounds when he returns to on-the-road duty... :)

1. Getting things done - even when I haven't done them before. I'm a rainmaker.

2. No joint pain! Of course it helps when you're built like an ox. My daughter is so envious that I don't have joint problems until her Dad asks if she also wants to look like me. Nope.

3. The comics - they always come first. I read the rest if there's time.

4. No - my favorite boy toy and I have always enjoyed walking in the woods, driving in the country, and being together the best.

5. Not much. My favorite boy toy bought some Girl Scout cookies today and we practically inhaled them because they were such a treat.

LOL!

Oh my gosh I just typed out a long reply and Poof, Blogger gobbled it up with an "unable to complete your request" reply....ARGH.

Ok, let's try this again.

We get so many mocking birds here! They can get noisy and annoying, esp ours that like to be up EARLY. It is interesting however, to listen to their song change.

And while I’m gone, I have a few questions for you ~

1. What is something you’re really good at doing? Baking and cooking much to my husband's pleasure.
2. What’s your best physical attribute? People say my eyes, but I don't see it. *snicker*
3. What is your favorite section of the newspaper? Comics. I am a light hearted kind of gal, need my chuckle before I hit the heavy stuff
4. Do you often feel limited by your financial state with how you spend your free time?
sometimes. Of course we would love to travel and do more of the "big" stuff, but I have to remember we are blessed not to live pay to pay check, and can treat ourselves to dinners and be able to do things with the kids like movies etc. I would love to go to more Broadway plays, but the extra $ are often not in the budget. I realize though, that will happen as the kids get older. I am just grateful we make a yearly family vacation a priority and can afford it.
5. How much junk food is in your cupboards? well I have teenagers here, so more than I would like. But, honestly, I am sure not as much as most households. I bake most of our goodies fresh, and the kids like it that way. I try not to keep much I like in the house, lest i eat it. :)

Love the bird pictures! Love to watch the woodpeckers!
1. Sewing, it relaxes me and I enjoy it
2. My hair, I think, and I just had 12" of it cut
3. Community section with the puzzles and comics
4. Not in what I do daily, but yes in what I would like to be able to do
5. Not really just some chips and a little chocolate ice cream (I usually bake something when we want sweets, do the cake mixes and brownie mixes count?)

Here is my answers.
1. What is something you’re really good at doing?
Being calm in chaos. I think I learned it way back when I was a Paramedic. I can be cool, calm and level headed no matter what is thrown at me, and that helps calm everyone else down.
2. What’s your best physical attribute?
My eyes.
3. What is your favorite section of the newspaper?
I love the comics section. Especially the Herman comic. Love Herman!
4. Do you often feel limited by your financial state with how you spend your free time?
I'd love to be able to travel to far distant places, even places a few hours from here but right now we are a one income family and so have to find ways to spend free time that do not include spending much money. Digital cameras are good for that. The initial expense might be steep but after that its all good!!
5. How much junk food is in your cupboards?
Nothing. That is the truth. We eat healthy here. Not even cookies in the cupboard. (I have to avoid all that stuff at work and that can be difficult sometimes!)
Hope you have a great weekend, and that things start looking up for you!

Seeing the mockingbird just made me smile. We have one in our yard and he just makes me laugh, the way he rattles off every bird call known to man (bird?) and he even does a frog.

On to the questions:
1. Every Friday night I make pizza. I am spoiled now, it's the only pizza I really like.
2. That's a tough one. I guess I'd go with my eyes. Olive green.
3. The Arts section. It's really the only part I read.
4. Yes, but more because I have to work so many hours that I have very little free time.
5. There is always chocolate, that is mine. And there are always potato chips, those are my husbands. Not that we don't share, just that we each have our favorite.

4. I will say no because you included the word "often" in your question. It doesn't "often" bother me, but it does sometimes, because I'd like to do more travel than we are able to afford.
5. Right now we're low on groceries; I just finished off a bag of potato chips. We have part of a chocolate cake on the counter top. Granola bar thingies. I have a terrible craving for junk food and should ban all of it from my house!

I'm sorry about your bad week. I blame that recent full moon.

1. Procrastinating.
2. I don't know.
3. The obituaries. Really. I check to see if anyone I know is dead, but I'll even read obituaries in non-local newspapers. I like to see how old they were; what they may have died from; the usually inadequate paragraph or two that so desperately tries to sum up their life by people who are still grieving. I like cemeteries too, so maybe I'm just morbid.
4. Oh. Hell. Yes.
5. Not enough.

3. Favorite section of the paper? I only read it on the weekend and enjoy the arts and leisure section.

2. My hair, for sure .. the rest of me is falling apart

3. The Sunday Style section ...

4. I dont often feel limited but if I didnt have to work and I still had the same income - now that's a true fantasy - I'd travel much more

5. At the moment, none. Oh I lie, Toonman told me on the way back from the doctor appt yesterday he brought 'us' popcorn so when we watch the movie, I've forgotten the name of this weekend, we can have popcorn .. wasnt that considerate of him?

I used to think i was pretty good with patients, but with "patient overload" I just don't give them enough TLC.
2. What’s your best physical attribute?

Once upon a time I was dubbed "Mom's Favorite" because I inherited a reasonable facsimile of her umm err Dolly Parton-esque tatas. Age and gravity have fixed that.

3. What is your favorite section of the newspaper?
Ann Landers.

4. Do you often feel limited by your financial state with how you spend your free time?

I have no free time due to my financial state....working all hours to pay off some stupidly self-inflicted debt. Progressing!!

5. How much junk food is in your cupboards?

...can i take the Fifth....let's just say if i can't take a vacation this year I can enjoy cheesecake instead.

Hi Kate, it's easy to fall behind in blog reading as you said in an earlier post. So tonight, I spent some catch-up time myself. Too bad about the credit card problems, but good it was caught in time - similar thing happened to us, before any charges were made (thankfully).
1. I'm good at being a friend and keeping in touch with people.
2. My smile
3. Favorite would be related to house and garden. Also read obits because you learn so much about people you never met.
4. Sometimes, but we able to retire in our 50s and live simply and aside from a couple of road trips each year are not extravagent.
5. Hardly any as the only time we have chips is when other people bring them.

1. Making soup, enjoy being home.
2. My calves.
3. The coupon section.
4. No, I'm limited by my discomfort for leisure; it runs in my family...a shark family, if we stop swimming, we'll die.
5.I am a food broker...a seller of confection and fine chocolate...if you consider that junk...then, tons.

1. I quite enjoy looking after my grandchildren. I am not sure whether I am "good" at it. But we all mostly seem to enjoy our time together.

2. mmmm...I don't know. Nothing much really. My husband thought I had nice ankles! (?)

3. Books section.

4. No, not really. Don't have much money, never had much money. Enjoy a mostly simple life, don't go out much, but just occasionally enjoy a nice concert or film. I have been lucky that my daughter pays my fare over to visit her, so that is about the extent of my traveling. But very enjoyable.

5. Not a terrible lot, mostly savory snacks. All the sugary ones are inclined to give me a migraine. Learning slowly to try to avoid them and try to eat healthy. Must. Lose. Weight.

6. Think you have my email address Kate. I don't like publishing it. I will try to send you an email in case you can't find it. Just in case you are anxious to write back!
;-)

7. Having to boil water for my daughter to enjoy a (warm not hot) bath. Feels like a third world country here in NYC sometimes. I shouldn't complain. I guess we have as lot more things/food/water than a lot of people.

8. Hope you enjoy your time with your sister. I am sure you will.

That really sucks about the credit card. Have had to do the same thing, and it's a pain.
Here's to getting to know you better:
1. Planning trips
2. My hair
3. Book reviews and Style/Home
4. No limits ... that's what's nice about getting older!
5. No junk .. darn!
Have a GREAT weekend

I wish I had answered this yesterday when I first read the questions. No junk food in the house then .... but now .....
Ok - here are my answers:

1. - Listening

2. - When I was younger I would have said my stawberry blond hair but as I've gotten older those greys have come in way too fast.

3. - This is hard as I don't read a phsyical paper - mostly read it online. I would have to say current events page or sports.

4. - The things I like to do in my spare time don't cost money -ie walking in the woods or on a trail - so I would have to say "no" - BUT - I am limited financially on how I spend my vacations.

5 - Yesterday - 0 junkfood - today - hubby made a store run last night - so there is a bag of Doritos and a bag of Cheetos :)

I hope you have a Wonderful time with your Sissy!

1. What is something you’re really good at doing? Cooking - it has always seemed really easy to me.
2. What’s your best physical attribute? My eyes probably.
3. What is your favorite section of the newspaper? I read it online - the local stuff I guess.
4. Do you often feel limited by your financial state with how you spend your free time? I try not to. We've never had much money and we are pretty frugal, but once it awhile it does get to me a little.
5. How much junk food is in your cupboards? Not a lot - some chips, dark chocolate [not junk really - you know it has antioxidants, right?] and some cookies I made yesterday.

have a great weekend Kate!

3. What is your favorite section of the newspaper? I don't read the newspaper.

4. Do you often feel limited by your financial state with how you spend your free time? yes

5. How much junk food is in your cupboards? I refuse to answer on the grounds that it might incriminate me! :)

I guess we have the 'southern' mockingbird down here! They are mean little suckers, but I love their song...over 100 melodies in their songbook! I am listening to one right now in the oak tree in my front yard!

So glad that you're taking a few days off from blogging! You'll come back refreshed and restored!

Something I am really good at is listening to people. The only problem with that is that I tend to be a 'fixer'...trying to not go there!

I wish I could say my knock-out gorgeous body is my best asset, but afraid not....maybe my hair!

I don't read the newspaper...too biased. I'm not from here, so don't care about the local news or their 'society' section.

Yes, I wish I could travel the world! But in today's global environment, if I did have the money, I'd probably just travel within the US.

There's a whole lotta junk food, thanks to my junk food addict of a husband.

Relax, breathe and be joyful!

I totally get that "out of control angry" feeling. Was fine yesterday but feeling it today!
1. I'm finally feel great at what my profession is: pediatric PT; I also feel like a pretty good mom.
2. I have nice arms
3. I don't read the newspaper but when I did, it was the comics!
4. as of the last several years I am very limited by my financial state and my free time has been very limited too. Hope to make some positive changes to remedy that: at least the free time part!
4. more junk food than I used to now that I have a 4 year old....but really not all that much. It makes me feel icky...

1. Something I'm really good at: keeping in touch with my family, I call my brother and my cousin, who is more like a sister, often.

2. my favorite physical attribute is my red/ginger/rapidly being invaded by white hair.

3. favorite section of the newspaper: arts/enteraintment/books

4. Yes, I do feel limited by what I can indulge in financially - but it is what it is so I do what I CAN do.

5. None in my cupboards but I can't say the same for my desk at work. A girl's gotta have treats to get through the day!

Thanks for the fun questions, Kate!

1. I'm NOT an extrovert, but I can talk to most anybody! I also make really good soup!

2. Middle age hasn't been too kind, but I would say my blue/green eyes. My friend years ago said they were turquoise like the Mediterranean Sea--of course she had never seen it!

3. Oh, I am definitely limited by financial resources with how I spend my free time, or I would be scurrying off to Hawaii, Martha's Vineyard and NYC whenever I felt like it! Spending time with the grandkids is pretty sweet, though!

4. Mostly healthy food is in my cupboards and refrigerator. It's the malted milk balls I ate today in the car after leaving Wal-Mart that gets me in trouble! Easter candy is a temptation too!

Hope your time with your sister was fun!

2. I have thick blond hair. I'm thrilled it's not thinning.

3. I'm a columnist in my local paper so I lime the Opinion section/local section the best! Thrilled if no one I know is on the obit section!

4. Yes...though we do have nice vacations. As I write this I'm staying at a Fairfield Marriott (lower end) on the last day of our vacation on our 16 hour drive home. Plane ride wasn't financially optional but we have laughed at the fact that the hotel ran out of shampoo and we look horrible!

5. I have three teenagers. Junk food is mandatory.

1. What is something you’re really good at doing? typinhg haha look what I just did.
2. What’s your best physical attribute? Oh gosh I really wouldn't know.
3. What is your favorite section of the newspaper? the police blotter, I'm so nosy, but in a small town it is so entertaining.
4. Do you often feel limited by your financial state with how you spend your free time? nope I don't need much to keep me happy, a walk on the shore, a hike in the woods, a trip to visit family now and then.
5. How much junk food is in your cupboards? not too much, but I do have a habit of baking lots of sweets, but we do share with neighbors so we won't eat too much.

I was thinking that was a hairy when I first saw it, but I guess size is relative. I don't know the other differences, guess I should look 'em up. I didn't know the mockingbird either. So, okay, all I really knew was the chickadee. You're good. xo ~Lili
