Sending good vibes

Hanging out at home this evening after a long first week back to school. For those of you who don’t know, I run the office of a K-12 private school in Maryland. Tonight I’m going to watch The Hunger Games which came today in my mailbox from Netflix and this weekend, after some long-overdue housekeeping chores, I plan on relaxing. I hope you can as well.

I can’t believe summer is nearly over, can you? I’m glad in a way, I really am. I am more a fan of Autumn (although Spring is pretty wonderful too). And lately, the weather has been more pleasant, those long dog days of August behind us for now.

:  :  :

This was one of those perfect New England days in late summer where the spirit of autumn takes a first stealing flight, like a spy, through the ripening country-side, and, with feigned sympathy for those who droop with August heat, puts her cool cloak of bracing air about leaf and flower and human shoulders.  ~ Sarah Orne Jewett

“The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color.”
~
Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting

I figure I’ve lost a decent amount of readers due to my sporadic posting of late. Long-time readers may remember that I used to post religiously on an almost-daily basis and although I’m sorry to see them go, at the same time I know that this is what works for me at this moment in my life. I think it’s wonderful to be able to write something every single day, but right now I’m more inclined to go with quality versus quantity.

Not that this is high quality or anything, but you know what I mean. At least, I hope you do. Sending good vibes to all of you on this long Labor Day Weekend ~

If you post everyday then I feel obliged to comment everyday and I am way to weary for that..... So I think you are doing just fine :). As I've said before, they are always appreciated when you do post but we all know life is busy.....

I read on another blog that a follower left because the blogger didn't post every day. I just don't get that! What; these people don't have a life, so they sit at the computer and wait for daily glimpses into someone else's life? I visit Blogger Dashboard and read new posts when they appear there. I post when I have something to say or show (usually it takes both "show and tell" for me). I will ALWAYS visit when you do a new post because I can't wait to see your photos! Love to see what you do with textures and such, even though I have never ventured into those waters myself.

I used to post more myself, but we have to give ourselves time to live, too! And when you add work into the mix, yikes! Who has time? (Still, I can feel it building up inside of me when I haven't posted in awhile!) Hope you have a great school year!

I feel exactly the same about autumn. It refreshes me after the hot/humid summer.

This is your blog. If anyone leaves because they feel entitled to more than you post, no big loss.

Happy Labor Day Weekend, Kate!

I think we all got sucked into the blog craze and felt almost an obligation to post everyday. As for me, I felt like I was posting drivel instead of things that people might like to read. Oh, and downloading pictured from our last cruise messed up my ability to post pictures until I did the Genius Bar visit - two days in a row - to get it fixed.

I still enjoy reading your posts and looking at your beautiful pictures whenever you feel like posting. Oh, and maybe this fall we can finally get to meet. Are you up for a trip to Longwood or Winterthur when the leaves start changing?

Their loss ! I love your blog no matter what you post and will stick with ya all the way through thick and thin ! Have a good weekend and get some much needed R&R !

I'm still here Kate whether you post everyday or once a week.

I absolutely love Autumn. But I bet you already knew that:-)

I agree with Country Gal...their loss! And think of it this way, maybe they didn't leave because of less frequent posts, maybe they were abducted by aliens...just sayin! ;-)

I love the two quotes you posted. And I would rather have filet mignon every once in awhile instead of McDonalds every day! :)

I enjoy your blog so much... and I understand that we need to live our lives and post when we can. I am just glad that you still keep up your blog.. something I stopped a couple years ago.

My sister was over the other day and saw my George picture... she said it reminded her of a blogger with a dog named George... I had no idea she reads your blog... she never comments. Very weird.. what are the odds!

It must be a bit of a shock to the system, going back to school every day after having the summer off. I have your blog listed on my sidebar, so I know whenever you have something new for me to enjoy. I don't always speak up while I'm here, though.

What a sweet little bird!

I post every day, sometimes multiple times a day, and yet still people leave from time to time. It's just how blogging is.

Well, they may have other reasons, too. Maybe THEIR life got busy!! I enjoy your posts & still check on you!!! :) Have a relaxing weekend.

Always enjoy your images. I don't have a blog so I can't imagine thinking you should post something everyday? Have a great long weekend!

love this about the first week of August quote. How true these words are about August. This takes me right back there and wanting that slow stillness that the Earth must feel in her hesitation of moving towards autumn. Beautiful post and amazing photo too. If people have stopped coming over maybe it's because their lives are in different modes too. I know I love catching up when I can, but not always the case during summer. almost can't wait for the slow stillness of winter this year. time to write read and paint.
peace n abundance dear girl,
CheyAnne
and health to your man too❤

I for one will take what I can get of you and your addictive world (esp George and all your wonderful photos and creative choices)

That first quote almost made me weep for the one thing paradise cannot give me: New England Autumn!

Perhaps NEXT October. . .

My view with blogging is quality over quantity. As much as we all want a gazillion readers...the pressure can just be too much. You are kinda stuck with me as a reader...so don't worry, i'll be here! I so appreciate how real you are! Enjoy the long weekend! xoxo

Wishing you a weekend of good vibes and relaxation! Enjoy the movie. I get to work all weekend as it is fair time here and I'm in charge of the 4-H program...so I have 100 plus kids and livestock to keep up with all weekend!

Gosh - I wish I had the energy time and inspiration to blog daily... I don't even go close!! Like an earlier commenter said, thank goodness not all my fave bloggers are daily posters - I cannot gather the energy or internet-connectivity to comment more often (much as I'd like to!)

I am still around. I have been a sporadic blog reader this summer - summer is who short here in Massachusetts that I need to be outside as much as I can. I love your posts whenever you feel like posting.

Since when is blogging supposed to be an every day chore? If readers actually drop you for that reason, well.. what kind of reader is that? You must entertain me every-single-day?

Are you having fun, when you do what you do? That's the only thing that matters here.. not the number on the followers list.

Love those quotes..awesome.

I'm still here and read every post from you whether it is everyday or once a month. Life goes on. I agree with Karen, blogging is writing and not promised for everyday.

personally i am hating the end of summer ... autumn is lovely but i really hate losing my summer fridaycations... we saw hunger gamers last weekendm let me know what you think .. you read the books didnt you? xo

I don't comment much, but love checking your blog.
Your bird shots lately have been amazing!
I'm not sure how people find time to blog as much as they do... Is the secret in a bunch of drafts?

I'm a teacher, and laughed when I read about your back to school dreams. I have them too. Do you have end of school dreams as well?

I also meant to comment on your posts about Olmstead as well. There's a place near me called Long Hill Estate (Beverly MA) that has an amazing Olmstead designed garden. It wouldn't be far out of your way next time to you travel to Maine if you wanted to visit. I'll try and remember to send you a link.

Enjoy your weekend!

you silly girl....sporadically posting instead of everyday posting is NEVER going to be enough to have your readers say, "bye-bye".....

have a great weekend sweet friend....xo

Autumn in Maine is just the best. Far fewer bugs, and fewer people in a hurry to get somewhere for their Restful Vacation! As for not blogging every day, I'm sticking with you, Kate. Your posts (and you) are so very much worth it! No worries. Live your life and share when you please. xo

You're managing to post more often than I am and, to be honest, I wouldn't have the time to read every day. I love your posts and I would end up missing them so, keep them coming as they are!

Pfffffffffftttt....if a reader leaves because of sporadic posts...their loss! Quality, not quantity! I appreciate the time and effort that you put into your work, even (or especially) when it's about a great sandwich. :)

with best regards from a VERY sporadic commenter!

But always a committed reader here! Love your photos and words.
