Somebody's happy

It's funny how little things contribute so much to our happiness, isn't it? Like the quiet of the day, listening to the birds outside.

Or the feeling of contentment knowing that your treasured things are around you (and not packed away in a box somewhere).

And how about the scent of apple crisp wafting through the house? Now that's an evocative scent. It smells like fall. Like everything's gonna be ok. It smells like home.

What has come over me? Could it be the kitchen with its pink countertops that's making me enjoy cooking? Or is it because it's something that will make someone else so happy? I'm going with both reasons.

Tonight for dessert, I made a lovely apple crisp. C'mon, you know you want some. It's the easiest thing to make, and I found the simple recipe over at Dlyn's, one of my blogger friends. Go check it out.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

I'm pooped tonight but there are three big apples sitting in my fridge that I have to get up from the couch and make something with them right now!! Bring on the whipped cream....

Mental P made the same dessert and said the entire thing was consumed within hours of making it!

Contentment...if anyone's earned it, you have, Kate. I do believe this may be your very best stop yet!

Blessings!

...Just so you know, I am officially jealous. That's right, I said jealous. Of you. That photo with the bookshelves and the window nearby is to die for. And then to add insult to injury, you have windowsills so deep you can cool a pie on them! I so am in love with your house! Envy isn't pretty is it? lol... And green is my fav' color! hee,hee,hee...

...So glad to hear that you are smiling and enjoying life. You go girl! ;o)

...Blessings to you both... :o)

Kate, that sure does look like an incredibly lovely house. I could easily live with the pink counter tops .. they're cheery.. not cherry but cheery. :) You have such style and grace. I'm so glad you're feeling such contentment.

You are building in the stomach what you build on this blog, beauty, simplicity, indulgence, and a big unzipping of the pants to gentle the extra waist - home. (Don't take the unzipping thing the wrong way, K?)

Oh, Kate, your home is just gorgeous...such a homey feeling, filled with love and comfort. And honestly, what the heck is wrong with pink countertops, huh? I am so happy things are good for you.

In the second picture, do tell - are those wooden shutters that cover your windows?? If so, I have those except they are well, wood colored. I've tried to imagine them painted and colorful but haven't been able to visualize it... if that's what they are - oh my, what a stunning vignette that picture creates with all of the peaceful colors. Do tell - send me a private e-mail and tell me, please. I just may have to go get some paint and some sandpaper pronto.

Yum! I saw that recipe on Dlyn's blog and I am going to make it this weekend. Nothing like the smell and taste of apple crisp. Your house looks so nice....makes me just want to curl up and read a good book. I know hubby feels the love.

I'm not much good at making such things as that apple dish, but I am very good at eating it! Heh! And, yes, I can smell it all the way out here in Iowa!

I like the hutch with the bookshelves in your picture. I really like that color and seeing the books and things on it makes that room - along with that great wood chair - look just perfect.

Take care.

Could it be because you have made friends with those hunter gatherers on that wallpaper, and now have company to chat to while cooking in there!?

Thanks so much, all. And Tammy, yes those windows are about 3' thick and are all trimmed with painted wood. I sent you a private e-mail.

I got up this morning and my husband (who gets up really early) was washing some dishes. As I poured my coffee, I noticed that he was washing the pie plate. When I asked him why it was empty, he admitted that he'd eaten ALL OF THE PIE!! He said it was really good. Luckily he's really thin. I only had one slice, though.

You all need to go get that recipe!

My heart is going pitter patter at the sight of your windowsills... I think I'm in love.

With the windowsills. Just in case anyone gets the wrong idea.

That apple crisp looks wonderful! I thought of trying it, but when I made an apple pie last week, I ate the whole thing myself. Not good for the battle of the bulge.

Wishing you many more contented days. :)

Mary

I just came over again to stare out your window again. Ahhh...all of my precious belongings are packed away in storage unit number 1039. :( I find serenity in staring at your photo.

it's a very long story so the short version is we sold the house last november and because of our business, we agreed to travel the US in our RV for a year and now that year is almost up. that's it in a nutshell minus the drama...i feel that things will get better...

Yummy for my tummy! I love anything with apples. Pink countertops are cheerful - I had pink countertops in one of my houses. Hubby hated them, but I didn't mind. :)

I can smell that apple crisp. It looks so yummy!

I'm baking sweet rolls and cookies today....I just love the smell of a house filled with fresh, out of the oven baked goods.

you're house looks so warm and inviting and with the scent of apple crisp and the chirp of birds outdoors I can understand your happiness. I was feeling the same way yesterday.
(I love a room with a wall of books and treasured things out for all to see - it tells a lot about a person. I posted one of my room yesterday.)
