This is not a post about cookies

There are cookies involved in the writing of this post, however.

It's not often that I miss a day of posting, especially with the PictureADay blog, but it happens sometimes. Last night, instead of blogging and/or visiting blogger friends, I spent the entire evening editing my pictures from the weekend trip to the city and loading them onto Photobucket for my friends to view.
It took a long time.

My youngest son had also asked if he could see some of the shots, especially the ones of his older brother's workplace, and so I wanted to get all of it done right away.

Tonight I should be working on the heapload of paperwork that Maryland Disability has sent us to fill out, and I'll get to it soon. Looking over it, I see that a good 80% of it has already been answered by us but I will do what I must. I'm just grousing about it a little bit.

The post office is holding our mail for us until we get the mailbox and post fixed out on the main road. Some kindly person hit it Saturday night and I am sure their car is looking pretty bad after hitting that bad boy of a mail receptacle. So when I picked up all the correspondence at the post office and saw all the lovely stuff from the Disability claims office, I was excited because I thought we were getting my husband's approval letter rather than what was actually in the envelopes.

Sigh.

As we were driving home, I had this conversation with my husband:

ME: Do you want shrimp for dinner?
DH: (Wrinkling his face) How are you going to cook it? Are you cooking it like Adrienne does?
ME: I've just decided not to have shrimp now.
DH: Good.
ME: Meat loaf and mashed potatoes sound good, don't they? With some green beans?
DH: (Loudly) You never make meat loaf. I don't think you have ever made that. You're not going to make meat loaf. All that trouble? And mashed potatoes? You won't do that.

Of course, now I am definitely making all of it because someone just told me that I'm not. And besides, meatloaf and mashed potatoes sounded really comforting to me.

ME: I have made meatloaf tons of times.
DH: That's two thousand times. You have not made meatloaf two thousand times.
ME: It's a figure of speech, honey. I made it all the time when I used to do the cooking.
DH: You never did the cooking.
ME: Oh. My. God. This conversation is over. (pause) And I am making meatloaf.
DH: That will be the day.

Looking back, I am wondering if he was using psychology on me to get the meatloaf meal. But honestly, I don't think he was. He's just not the sort of person who does that (read: like me).

I have just finished an excellent meal of homemade meatloaf, creamy mashed potatoes with gravy, and a vegetable medly that warmed the cockles of my soul (whatever that is). I'm sure it also added a nice layer of goodness on my body, which should help me keep nice and warm this winter. Ha!

But the look on my husband's face when I served him this meal, his big smile, and hearing him tell me "this is really good, Kate", well this was why I made him these awesome peanut butter cookies for dessert.

See below for recipe.

Hey, come on. Give me a break. They were on sale at the WalMart.

Tomorrow, more pics of my visit to NYC.

Until then, my friends . . .

Nothing like a good meatloaf every now and again...always good cold the next day for sandwichs on rye bread...Oh gosh, I'm getting hungry again and I just ate...Those cookies look very good, nothing wrong with cookies from a pouch...as long as they were eaten hot out of the oven..that's all that matters....

Those cookies look might fine no matter their origin.

I can't make a decent meatloaf to save my life. I don't know what's wrong with me. I love meatloaf -but not mine.

Do you have a great, easy, foolproof recipe? Although, they all they they're easy and foolproof - but, I beg to differ.

Man, I can practically smell them, and they smell divine! Who cares if they're not strictly homemade?

I made meatloaf last night, too. And it was delish.

My husband claimed he didn't like meatloaf when we married. Which told me: he doesn't like = his mother didn't like it, so she never made it. There are a lot of things "He didn't like" before we married. He loves meatloaf and mashed potatoes! He still swears he hates sweet potatoes, unless I make them in a casserole. Funny how he eats most of it.

BTW, we loves those cookies! MMMMM, me want some cookies....now!

What's wrong with my shrimp? I make it a ton of different ways...I meant ten thousand! LOL!

And that is exactly how I make cookies!

Clever men learned a long time ago Kate that the way to make a woman cook "hearty" "men-shaped" meals is to lavish praise on their cooking. It still works with me every time.

Kate, have you ever considered becoming a sit-com writer?! You've got the right/write stuff!

Ha ha about those cookies. I keep the choc chip ones in my fridge all the time. Hubby doesn't like them as well as my home made but he doesn't make them now, does he? I love meat loaf. Now I know what I am making my in-laws for dinner tonight.

I often make cookies that way too! And I have never made meatloaf. I may have to have you give me your recipe.
*hugs*

Ha! You guys are funny. You really don't need a recipe for meatloaf. I bought ground sirloin and placed it in a bowl and added an egg, some ketchup (2-3 Tbsp), some mustard (2-3 tsp), some breadcrumbs (1/2 cup or so) and some parsley (2-3 Tbsp). Mix it all up with your hands and place in a loaf pan sprayed with Pam. Bake for about 45 min or so at 350.

My husband called me today to talk to me. He told me "that dinner was so good last night". Now I have to come up with something equally as easy and good tonight.

And yeah, he just might be using psychology on me . . .

It is SO easy to get lost in fixing up photos, isn't it?

I'm craving meatloaf now. I do make it often, and it's like my main comfort food.

Yummmmm, this sounds great. Now I am so meatloaf hungry! But I just spent about a gazillion dollars on groceries and i'm not going back to get stuff for meatloaf. I don't think. That pumpkin apple pie sounds unbelievable! I tell you what, just cook it all up and I'll be right over...

Hilary said...

Hopefully Daryl will swing by to get me on her way to your place for the shrimp. But I'll settle for meatloaf - when you make it for the 2001st time. ;)
