A walk in the woods

Today dawned a bit colder than yesterday and because I still have off for the week, I luxuriated in the flannel sheets, sleeping in until nearly 9 am.

Oh, my! Very unlike me.

After a breakfast of coffee and some oatmeal, we departed for nearby Fair Hill Nature Center in Maryland.

Fair Hill encompases nearly 6,000 acres and is bordered by Pennsylvania to the north and lies less than 1/2 mile west of Delaware. It's known for its natural beauty, woodlands and pristine fields. It also houses the Fair Hill Training Center, so horses are everywhere.

At one time, it was one of the largest private land holdings in the East and was formerly owned by one of the DuPonts. It was purchased by the state of Maryland in 1975.

When we lived in PA long ago, and my husband was competing in mountain biking, he regularly trained at Fair Hill. We took trails today that were familiar to him and believe me, it's beautiful there.

We could hear the hounds in the distance, as a fox hunt must have been going on.

When we got home, we looked at some of the pictures I took. Or rather, I loaded them onto the hard drive and my husband looked at them.

Here's our conversation:
DH: You didn't take that many pictures today, you know.
CG: Hmmm.
DH: And of the 51 pictures that you took, 15 of them are of my back. 15!!
CG: What are you talking about?
DH: Look at this. My back. There's my back again. Oh, there it is again. And again. I'm only up to 8 here.
CG: Well, um, your back is mostly what I see since I'm always behind you.
DH: Yes, but there's rock formations you could have taken. And more shots of the stream. The stream is nice. And there was that fox.
CG: The fox was gone before you even told me it was there.
DH: Well, I'm thinking that the next time we go for a walk, I'm giving the dog to you to hold and I'll take the pictures.
CG: YOU'LL WHAT?
DH: Well, I can take pictures as well as you can.
CG: What?
DH: You heard me.
CG: Hmmm.
DH: You heard me, right?
CG: I said hmmm, didn't I?

I said Hmmmm. But what I was really thinking as I was silently seething was "who do you think you are? I am the picture taker!! I can't believe you just said that!"

But I said nothing. I didn't want him to know how miffed I was. I think it's best not to let him know everything.

And this is of the side. The side is not the back.

I rest my case.

I started typing something about liking the pics of guys from the back but then it just sounded perverted. :-)

As I said to Annie today, I think the word "Idiot" delivered with the right staccato is perfect.

I feel your miffiness (is so a word...) This weekend on our hike my darling daughter and my handsome husband took pictures too! Hey...I. Am. The. Picture. Taker. Around. Here!

Tell him he's the Brad Pitt of "Chronicles." Tell him he's your readers' second favorite model. (George is the favorite, of course.) Oh hell, just get him his own camera.

Mary

I never get a chance to get candid shots of my husband. As soon as he knows there's a camera out, he mugs for it. I would love to have candid photo of his back, side or any angle, but he's the camera "commando" in our house and I usually have to fight to get it away to take any pictures. Oh well, that's just life here in my world.

What beautiful countryside CG. Gorgeous pics. Have you given any thought that maybe hubby wants to take pictures of your backside for a compliment? teehee

I say Hmmmmm(!) too.

Just returned from Mental's site to wish her a congrats. So funny that you two started your blogs one day apart. :-)

You had me laughing!I have been the picture taker in our family, which explains my absence in most of the pictures in the family photo albums. My dear Hubby is pretty good about critiquing my photos though. I think secretly that if I give him total responsibility of the camera and documenting family events, why he just might do a better job, but don't tell him I said that!

Your photos of your husband and George are the kind of pictures I like to capture. The way a person leans this way while walking, the gestures, the tilt of the head...they often speak to me more about a person than a straight on photo. Thanks again for a lovely walk in the country!

Cute, cute dialogue between you two! I love the picture of the side at the end, ha!
You are definitely the picture-taker...and a good one, at that! ;)
Maybe it'd be fun to see what the hubby came up with for a change...it'd be a good post, anyway!
Oh, and, I love the scenery over there. Never been east, except to NYC!

I take photos of Larry's butt just to annoy him. Maybe I should start putting them on my blog. I also like to take photos of him while we are driving down the road, but the hand gestures in those prevent me from putting them on my own g-rated blog.

That does look like a lovely place Kate.

Kate: this is hysterical! I am so glad I found you.....I love the banter between you and your hubby. I may have to add that to my blog sometimes....married 30 years....and our conversations are so darn similar. Very cute. Looks like you had a very lovely day. Enjoy the rest of your time off. Sleeping in! ~Cheryl

ps. beautiful pics!

What?! I don't blame you for being miffed. I too am...the...picture...taker! If he doesn't like his backside photographed, show him the photo I took of Doughboy in his Merry Christmas attire. That'll stop his complaining. Ha! Why are men so quick to criticize but can't step up to the plate. Hrumpf! Your shots of the countryside are lovely, Kate :)

Well I like your pictures - yes, there is a back in them but you can look past it at the view. The back just adds interest. We have a saying if a picture is too bland that it really needs a rabbit in a red anorak as a focal point. Take the back as focal point and you've cracked it!

I'm with Mary. Let him get his own camera. I'll bet George was not so critical.

HA, side shots are a whole other game.

(I might have my husband read over here, you know, as a warning, don't ever say this!)

I agree with you whole heartedly. What do these men think that they can take the pictures. Humph...Next, they will be wanting to cook. Wait, my husband cooked dinner tonight. Maybe we'll just have to let them have an occasional meal...but stay away from the cameras!

The photos are great and I think I always take a lot of back shots too! Art! :)
Have a great new year!

Kate you are funny. I love those photos, back, side or backside and all.

You should frame that conversation. I think it's art. The whole time my mind's eye saw you two(and I don't know you)and it still made me smile.

Shit, LFB, I just re-read it and am sitting here cracking up, too.

I can't make this crap up.
