Enchantment in the garden

I hope you’re not getting tired of my morning glories. Please let me know if they’re driving you crazy. Although I’m sure most of you are too polite to say so, feel free to shout it out: “Kate, stop it with all the ding dang diddly morning glories!”

Of course, you know I’ll be extremely hurt. (Not really).

Today, I present to you . . .

. . . more morning glories.

They’re one of the most photogenic things in my yard at the moment.

I took these little beauties on Sunday morning, many of them in the process of unfurling.

Then later on, I took phots of them curling up, which I plan to post tomorrow.

Please try to contain your excitement. I just love these flowers, you know.

The Victorian-era Language of Flowers lists the meaning for morning glory as “love in vain”. Back in those days, one could convey their thoughts by sending a small bouquet of flowers called a tussie mussie which carried a coded meaning meant only for the recipient.

At the other end of the spectrum is the night-blooming moonflower which I plan to plant next year. Its meaning is “Joy, inspiration and hope”.

The petals will begin to fade just before they start to curl on the edges.

Sunday was beautiful here in Maryland and I wanted to get as much use out of the borrowed 105mm lens as I could.

We have four different colors of morning glories. These are the blue and white. We also have white, blue and purple, and blue.

Before I go, I just want to say that today was much better. I was surprised at how many of you had a bad day on Tuesday as well.

Swirls

Tonight I’m watching another Netflix movie while my husband watches baseball. Enchanted April is playing and I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

As always, thanks for visiting for awhile with me here. Always a pleasure.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Glad you had a better day! I love the movie Enchanted April. Have you seen it? Also love the Morning Glories. I've only been able to get the Moon Flowers up and blooming a few times. They are worth all the fuss (nick the seeds, burn the seeds, hit'em with a hammer, use a nail file on'em ;) tho, their perfume is like nothing else.

I'm not sure which phrase I like more: Ding dang diddly or tussy mussy. But both will be peppered freely and generously throughout my conversations whether they are used properly or not.

LOVE THEM (and the morning glories).

Also I liked Enchanted April a lot, but it's one of those that you either love or can live without at least in my tussy mussy opinion, ding dong diddlyit.

(See? I told you I'd use them improperly.)

Ok so once again you made me smile and I am glad today was a better day for you. Even though my Tuesday was ok my Wednesday was not...today felt like several Mondays rolled into one. Who knew things could go sideways so quickly in one's life...

I remember posting about Morning Glory's a year or two ago and some woman left a comment saying if she never saw another MG in her life it wouldn't be too soon! Or something striking like that.

I like MG's. In fact I've been photographing mine too, so look for them to be coming soon to a blog near you ; )

Glad today was better. It was for me too!

I truly think if it wasn't for a bad day ever now and again, we really wouldn't appreciate the good days as much.

Glad to hear your days are looking brighter.

Keep the morning glories coming! And wouldn't it be great if people still sent one another tussy mussies? I think the world would be a better place, and then maybe none of us would have a bad day or need a drink on a Tuesday!

Hang in there!

So, I hope that means everything was okay as you wished at the end of yesterdays post. The long weekend was nice, but didn't sleep at all last night so the fun & the lack of sleep is catching up with me!!

Ah, Karen.

I hope your day goes better tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing the link, but unfortunately it seems to be offline... Does anybody have a mirror or another source? Please reply to my post if you do!

I would appreciate if a staff member here at chroniclesofacountrygirl.blogspot.com could post it.

Thanks,

Frankly I love the morning glories. They are "illegal" here in Arizona. It seems that back in the olden days (early 1900s in Arizona) the morning glories, being an invasive plant and inundating ranchers' grazing lands, were outlawed by the Arizona legislature. To my understanding, that law, even though antiquated, is still on the books today and it is almost impossible to buy morning glory seeds anywhere in this state! So just keep posting those pictures. I love them!

Hey - give me a break with the morning glory will ya!! See - I don't need much encouraging to give some cheek. And what about the ginger cat in the tree? The Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland - without the grin.

Morning glories always invoke a feeling of happiness for me... I love to see them pop up in unexpected places and bloom their little hearts out. Yours are beautifully captured Kate. Sending a really long, warm hug to you today my friend.

I miss my morning glories a lot, save me some seeds ...

Get 'City Island' from NetFlix .. you will laugh out loud

Oh and dont waste your time planting Moon flowers .. after a very long wait you'll get one flower that takes forever to open and then dies before the sunrises ... I know this because I planted Moon flowers one spring along with the morning glories .. flowers would bloom all day/nite .. nope ...

sick of your flowers ?
never...ever....

Oooo, so lovely! I'd love to see more morning glories. Now I've got lens envy AND flower envy. I think I need to go to confession... lol

One of the aspects I love the most about flowers is their absolute intricacy. To take the time to observe one, close up and at length, to see the furled leaf, the detail in the pattern, is to marvel at Creation itself. How can so much beauty exist? Thank you, again and again, for showcasing Nature in all her exquisiteness. Your morning glories are glorious!!! xoxo

I just love that photo of the vine twining over the blossom...morning glory blue has to be the truest blue in nature:) How could I tire of these?

Beeeuuuutiful! I love the one all wrapped up:)
I love these blooms...and actually this is the first year I managed to "make them grow" in my yard:))
Thanks for your beautiful "take" on them,
dawn:)

I love Enchanted April. I hope you do too. What's not to like about MG's? Cool the way the vine wraps around the folded bloom in the one image.

I think I'd rather a husband that watched baseball all the time rather than westerns. You know, the grass is always greener...

I hope your week is looking better and better as it moves along.

Blessings.

I adore morning glories. I was so disappointed than none that I planted came up this year, though I nicked the seeds and soaked them and everything. They have a graciousness and elegance to their design that no other flower can lay claim to.

I don't think I'd seen the colored morning glories in our neck of the woods, just the white ones.
Lovely shots as always!

Wow did you say others had a bad day on Tuesday! It must have been the weather or something because it was a really bad horrible day for me, and when I went home in the evening my hubby told me the same thing...everything was out of wack! but much better today. Beautiful photos...btw

Hi Kate,
So glad to hear you had a better day ...you can just tell in your blog you are happy today. Love morning glories all of them...any colour! We started a wysteria about 6 years ago and this year it had a few flowers. Love it!
I am glad tomorrow is Friday...its the only light at the end of this week.

To the anonymous person regarding the link: I have no idea what you mean about a mirror. The only link I posted here was to 'The Language of Flowers' at Wikipedia:

So, there's that.

Thanks, all.
