World Peace Day

Today at school, we participated in World Peace Day by participating in Pinwheels for Peace, which was celebrated around the world. Nearly all of our students in grades K-12 made pinwheels for peace as a visual public statement about peace and we had a small ceremony this morning in front of the school.

I was the official/unofficial photographer and uploaded a set of photos to the website. The younger children seemed excited to have their pinwheel added to the front garden at school.

As I went around looking at all the beautiful designs, I realized again how glad I am to have this job. I realize this all the time, almost every day.

Some of these are really quite beautiful.

Our two art teachers, one of whom is my friend Margie (she’s the one who lent me Eat, Love, Pray), organized the creation of the pinwheels and the event itself.

Groovy, man.

Mosaic copy

I got so excited, I made another mosaic. I’m going to have it printed and hang it up in the school office.

I looked up at one point and saw these four little birds along the weathervane at the top of the cupola.

This is my friend, Margie. She’s really all that and a bag of chips.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

What a wonderful idea, and those pinwheels are all works of art! Great photos and if Margie is a friend of yours, than I'm sure she's super cool and I'd like her too! ;-)

I'm also thankful for my job - public school and all.

Very cool, Kate! And for a minute there, I was thinking about the old kitchen poster, "All we are asking is Give Peas A Chance". (snort) Or "Imagine Whirled Peas". (I'll stop now...I know. I'm sick!)

All that and a bag of chips. Love that!

And these are gorgeous pinwheels. Is there a picture of the field of them? Just wondering.

And I have to ask, because this just seems to fit... are you at a Friends school? The whole peace thing is just so, well, Friendly.

I didn't even know if was Peace Day. I think next year our Sunday school kids need to do something related to this. Must remember, must remember, must remember...

And what a gorgeous day you seem to have had, too.

Please give Margie an atta girl from me!

Your mosaic will be an awesome poster for the school, what a great idea! I think those 4 birds appeared on the weathervane as a symbol for achieving world peace in all directions. Yes, very groovy man! ~Lili
