Friendship is a sheltering tree

Today was busy at school because it was portrait day for me. It’s the 10th grade’s turn for the Spotlight bulletin board in the main hallway at school and let me tell you, high school kids LOVE getting their photo taken!

Not.

But I have fun with them, and I really like them, so it wasn’t too bad. The little ones get really excited though, and I took photos of many of them for the Lower School bulletin board as well. Some day I’m going to figure out how to get the fake smiles off their little faces and get them to smile their real smiles. They are so much sweeter looking without those pretend ones ~

Last night, I escaped into Netflix and watched Starman. I really love that movie for some reason.

Tonight, I’m reading The Wednesday Letters. I’m in a little group at school and we pass books around to each other. It’s my turn for this one and I’m liking it very much already.

I found these photos on the camera disk yesterday. Courtesy of my husband. And no, that's not our real mailbox. The previous owners had their mail delivered here and the box still stands. I think it looks nice there.

Yesterday morning was really foggy and I asked him to get some photos for me. He was busy, he told me. So this was all he could get.

But this guy says to say hello.

Pioneer Woman is hosting another photo assignment and although the shot below isn’t all that and a bag of chips, I entered it anyway because I like it. And I can do what I want. The assignment is ‘Sisters’ and you may enter anything that means that to you.

PW Photography Assignment: Sisters

These are three of my blogging sisters. They are the first women I met in real life through my blog. It was May of 2009 and my co-workers told me I was crazy to drive all the way to New York City by myself to meet people who could turn out to be axe murderers.

But I did it anyway.

And thankfully, there were no axes.

From left to right: Annie {Tombstone Chronicler}, me, Lauren {Mental Pause Mama} and Daryl {Out & About in NYC}. We were having peach sangrias on a beautiful spring day at one of the outside tables at Momoya, a sushi restaurant on Amsterdam Ave. in the Upper West Side. (Fantastic food).
And do you know what’s really cool? I get to see them all this weekend. Woot!

Thanks for coming by. It’s always a pleasure to have you here. Until tomorrow, then . . .

Blogging friends are awesome. I don't think we had reconnected when I invited a blogging friend from Arkansas into my home...with her family. It was weird to do it, but good. I hope to see her again someday.

:) what a great time and a great group.

i always try to make them giggle because i love the giggles. sometimes i ask them to tell me a joke.

with the older girls i ask them to talk about their boyfriend or their favorite thing to do. boys....well, they rarely do a natural smile. that one is tough.

Great shots as always! I love the shot of the East Coast Shanty Girls! I too wish I lived closer so that we could visit more than once per year. Hug my blisters for me and have fun in NYC!

PS~ Thank goodness none of us turned out to be axe murderers!

I always consider girlfriends like *sistas* ... the best are the ones who take you just as you are, no judgments, no criticisms! The great thing about blogging is that you discover people you may never have come across in your life. Like you! Thanks for sharing your world, Kate!

That sounds like it was a fun trip to NYC. I wish I had some blogger friends, but then, I don't have a blog, so there you have it. Until next time.

I don't think I would have the patience to take a school full of children's photos! But I do remember being excited as a child when it was picture day...we would all get so dressed up:)

I am envious of your meet up this weekend! Someday I would love to join!

Love the Sisters shot! Laughed at your comment about the warnings you received. I got the same thing when I planned my trip to visit Linda at the 7MSN Ranch. Those warnings, I've found, generally come from non-bloggers. So much fun to meet in person, isn't it?

Blessings,
Carolynn

You got me interested in the Wednesday Letter...now I'm going to have to get it saved for mw at the library. It sounds really good from what I read of just the first on his website. I mean--for Pete's sake--my son lives in the Alleghenies, we cross the Valley to get there, and we live an hour away from VA Beach. I can also see why it would be of great interest to you, Kate.

oh, yeah, you!!
I want a George.

and a NYC weekend.

I flew with my husband on his business trip to another province to go hiking with a blogger I'd never met. Isn't life on the edge amazing :).

I'm so glad you entered the photo. What can be cooler than blogging sisters? Love the photos--especially the one of George.
