On the street where you live

Continuing my New York weekend, before we went to Central Park, my friend Daryl had an appointment to keep. So we walked from her house to 78th & Broadway where we parted ways with plans to catch up with each other later.

I was on my own on the streets of New York.

This may not be a big deal for most people, but for this country girl, it was a first. And it was fun.




I had my trusty camera with me, of course, and I thought this series of steps along 79th Street looked beautiful.




The curved staircase of this building, coupled with the pretty blue paint made an interesting photograph. And I love all that wrought iron, too.




Walking down the block, I noticed this interesting detail in a building made of stone. I thought the building was quite beautiful.




This is the Manchester House on W 79th St., designed by architect Emery Roth, whose work defined so many of the city’s hotels and apartment buildings in the 1920’s.

I only know this because I looked it up.




The sun was shining on the windows of this church along Broadway and – I don’t remember. All I knew was that I was loose in the city and I didn’t want to get lost.




I love tulips and these pretty colors caught my eye.




80th Street where it meets Riverside Drive is such a pretty area.




The trees, the metal, the brick – all of it so different from what I see everyday at home.




And speaking of home, this is what I’m more accustomed to seeing. However, I’m not accustomed to being able to walk up to a bird and use my 18-55mm lens to capture a photo. This little male house sparrow allowed me to get closer and closer to him. I guess the birds in Central Park are much more at ease with humans than the birds at home.

I want you to know that I looked up this bird without the help of Mr. Bird Man, thankyouverymuch. You remember how well that went the last time, don’t you?


The last time I asked for help


On Saturday night, I slept over at my son’s apartment. We stayed up until 1 in the morning watching shows we both enjoy, like Who Do You Think You Are, the show where celebrities look into their family tree. It’s not for everyone, but I think it’s pretty interesting. And apparently, it runs in the family.
