It’s midnight and I'm still awake and excited because I’ve finally captured the moon in my camera lens. I found instructions and then I googled how to work a couple of the settings on my camera (I lost the manual a long time ago).
And it worked. Here are the tips I used:
Moon Photography: How To Take Photos of the Moon
I shot on Shutter Priority mode 1/640 sec, ISO 400. Sharpened in PS.
I read somewhere that it’s more effective to photograph the moon when it’s not full. This way, you get the shadows from the craters at little bit better. I may have to keep at this.
Have a beautiful Sunday, all.

Fantastic shot!
Gorgeous! Since it's storming here in CA, I'm not able to see the moon tonight. I thank you for sharing your shot of it:)
Kate!
THIS PICTURE IS AWESOME (in the true sense of the word)!!! My attempts this evening pale in comparison. wow! WOW!

Wow!! Just gorgeous!
Perfect photo!
We kept getting the illusion of a second moon in our shots..but my son is not one to read up on the correct exposure and such...men!
I missed that moon!! Comments, historically speaking: loved the red cardinals, Miss Blackie and the SOOC photos and I'm ever so pleased your husband brought you back from the dump and didn't leave you there abandoned.
:-)
Ms Soup..
Aha, great shot!
I tried to take a photo out the bathroom window, I don't think it is going to be much good. But it was good to see the moon shining in through the windows at midnight in NYC.
Nicely done Kate. It took me quite a while to catch that one....And your's Fantastic !!
See you tomorrow.
WOW, fabulous moon shot Kate! I got the link from George, but the moon wasn't THAT big when I went to take photos and the photos I took didn't look ANYTHING like this...will try again in 2016!! ;-)
I think you read the directions correctly because this is one fantastic shot!!!
Wow, great moon shot. I think I can see someone on it! : )
There's always tonight, Kate!
Oh Wow, Kate - that is spectacular. I have not had this luck yet - thanks for the settings info.
Wow, that shot is stunning. I feel a strong connection to the moon and have tried to photograph it without much success.
wow. just wow.
...Oh wow Kate, that is fantastic! Isn't the Moon beautiful? I love the Moon. :o)
...Great job girlie! That is one of the best photos of the Moon that I have seen in quite some time...
...Blessings... :o)
Nice! I didn't even attempt to shoot it since I knew others would do a much better job of it than me. I did step outdoors to witness it though since the next one won't occur until the year 2029.

Wow our moon is so beautiful. you did well great to see it upclose like that.
D.
Awesome photo good for you. Papa is the Astro photographer here but it was cloudy here last night, he has taken hundreds of moon photos over the years. You did a great job at capturing it he said. Have a great first day of spring.
Beautiful...and I so jealous that you actually were motivated to be up in the middle of the night to do it.
Wow.
love it....I wasn't able to find a good shot....so I really enjoy yours...
Wow, that is fantastic, Kate! My tripod is acting sulky, so I didn't even try... :( It was beautiful though, wasn't it?
xoxo
Kate what an amazing shot. Thanks so much for the info on that, trying to get a shot of the night moon has always alluded me. Bravo to you! xo ~Lili
Wow.., one moment Mother Nature ravages the earth and then presents this spectacular moon...
WOW! You did an awesome job! LOVE it!
Awesome!!
Friend of mine when to a photography class yesterday, and the inst. gave them the settings he was going to use to photograph the moon. One of the dozen I took came out well, and it was too dark and cold to mess around. :) I am proud of my shot though. My 250 zoom in the best! I really wanted to get out earlier when it was rising. That obviously didnt' happen! :)
Very nice shot, indeed! I used "other" settings, also from the Internet, but mine are not near as nice. I have too many houses and trees in the way (at least where the moon is before I go to sleep)! I usually have better luck with the moon in the setting stage in the early morning hours.
BTW, I'm going to add your settings to my moon shot info, if you don't mind. Also, what lens did you use and what was your focal length? Just asking...
Great job, Kate. It looks much sharper than anything I was able to get. It sure was a beauty, eh?
BIG smiles...
Love it Kate! Well done1
Picture perfect..WOW!
SPEC-TA-CU-LAR!!!!!!!
wow. we think alike. although by midnight i was sound asleep.....i like your moon better. amazing how it looks the same from both our points of view.....
and no matter how great or beautiful the moon, give me a sunset any day :)
xo
i tried so hard last night and none of mine are as good as yours and beth's. fantastic job
Beautiful photo...we've been trying to get some really good moon shots for years. I went to the site you linked to but with all the black, found it difficult to read or print out. Will hand write the settings when I have more time.
Thank you for sharing your photos...I always enjoy them.
Phenomenal.
Nicely done! I'll have to remember the tip about shooting it when it's not quite full. Love it!
Hey, I did the same thing. Great job! Mine looks a lot like yours. I was too lazy to Google, so I at first I thought to have a slow shutter speed--wrong-o! I'll have to post mine sometime soon.
Brilliant shot. Just brilliant
Awesome shot of the moon! I wished I made the time to Google the settings before I ran out the door to take some shots of the moon last night. I'll try and remember your tip for next time!
Bea-U-Ti-Ful!!!
Powerful. Love it.
Very nice!
I learned that the best tip in taking a moon photo is to be awake and go out and get it ... oh well in 18 yrs I'll either be dead or likely asleep
So lovely Kate!
you did a great job, i went out there and gave it a shot, but i had no clue what i was doing, nowhere near as crisp as yours. but i love how so many people, all over the country and probably the world, were all out there taking pictures of the exact same thing.
i will have to go check out those tips for next time!
Wow, you really did a wonderful job, Kate! Wasn't it amazing?
