I don’t have very much to say today. After watching the Nightly News, my heart is heavy with the thoughts of Japan in my mind.
My husband is playing catch with George in the living room. We’re convinced that his asking to go out at night is out of sheer boredom. And he does have my husband wrapped around his little paw (you must know this by now). So with this in mind, here are some glimpses of the past weekend.
The bouquet of tulips I took to my in-laws who have returned from wintering in Florida. We had lunch with them on Saturday and it was so good to see them again.
It was night when I took these images, so I used the Ott light.
The tulips are very cheerful.
I don’t mind if I do.

An update on the squirrel situation: Husband is winning. No squirrels on the feeders anymore. They gave up trying to traverse the wire. As I mentioned before, my husband has strung a wire that leads from the dogwood tree to the edge of the house. From this wire, he has hung all the feeders on ‘S’ hooks and taped them with electrical tape to keep them steady. The squirrels have been foiled and the feeders stay filled for the birds, leaving the little varmints to scavenge from the ground. My husband is quite happy about this.

My granddaughter celebrated turning 9 years old this past week-end. She got a guitar for her birthday and will be taking lessons. Maybe she can play a duet with your son... LOL

Quick! Get him to patent that wonderful squirrel-free invention of his and you all can purchase a seaside cottage in Maine where he can hang his lobster buoys and they won't be so out of place.

Oh those tulips! And good for your hubby...it's hard to keep those squirrels at bay. Love your photos...they tell great stories!

Our youngest son plays the electric guitar and is now learning the sax.
Wonderful photos. I am trying to video the birds in our yard in the mornings were they are most active and very pleasing noisy lol I just have to figure out how to put the video on my post . Yes the terrible tragity in Japan , my heart goes out to all. Have a nice day

What part of FL did they visit? The shells look like Lace Murex shells. I spend a week in Sanibel FL every year and there are a lot of these! I love the photo of your son playing Guitar - very nicely composed.

Hooray for your brilliant honey! That's fantastic! Our Aussies keep the squirrels out of our fenced yard. They never had a chance.
Oh Kate.....these are wonderful! Sorry I haven't visited lately ... I spent the weekend helping to pack up my parents - 40 years in the same home and now they are moving closer to me - Yippee! Not moving until end of April but there is a LOT to do.
I bet you know the photo that steals my heart .....the one of your son playing the guitar ... actually brings me to tears. I am missing my son terribly.
And my heart is breaking over all that is happening in Japan.

it is very difficult to be peppy and uplifting in seeing such images of tragedy and horror - i can't even imagine. my prayers are with them.

I am with you on Japan weighing heavy on the heart. It's hard to enjoy life on any level knowing all that those poor people have lost. May God bless them and heal their land.

Okay, sweet lady. You've got me again. What is an ott light? Is it another action I don't know about?
So clever with the wire to the house!!!! Right now, my two bird feeders are lying on the ground from those ornery squirrels! Great idea that I will use!
We don't really play with the cat any time of day--but she wants to wake us up just for the fun of it, I think. She's such a deranged thing.
Love the birds-as always. Although I love bluebirds, and all birds (and HAWKS, even!), I love those sweet little red birds I can never remember the name of!
It seems your son looks like his dad..and tulips are lovely. I'll have to remember the Ott light sometimes. I miss my parents -in-law. We had such wonderful times with them. Just being able to say that gives me a lot of peace--so many families don't get along.:(
I need to borrow your husband for a bit--how would he do on a woodpecker problem? I'm plagued by both squirrels and woodpeckers-yikes. Your photos are lovely--can't wait till there are tulips in the garden (soon, very soon). Always love to read your posts. Mickie :)

Kate, it is so very sad about Japan.
The saddest part of all to me is that Japan is the home of my mother's ancestors. We will never know if or how many of our estranged family were killed and injured.
I can say that I'm relieved that my Momma is not seeing this happening.
Hooray for A! And now that the birds have a steady supply of food, they'll be hanging longer and you can get more fab photos!

The squirrels are winning the battle here in Illinois. I have 2 black squirrels that are so destructive. Little buggers!!!

I think I may have to give the wire technique a try - I noticed this a.m. that I'm finally starting to hear the birds (in spite of the fact that it's still dark now). I also wanted to say thanks - I turned 60 a week or so ago and my bff gave me a framed print - Female Cardinal in Snow - that I had so totally fallen in love with. She was so thrilled to be able to give me something she knew I loved but didn't have and I am so absolutely thrilled to now have it!! My husband and I were looking at the news this morning... so horrifying.. I feel so badly for that country's people... not only do they have the devastation and loss of life, now the worry of contamination.

KATE! Have you ever tried Blueberry wine? OMG.. I did for the first time the other night and it was extraordinary! Delicious! The kind I had was sweet, perfect for my taste, but I'm sure it comes in different styles. Oh man, worth a try.
The tulips add a sense of hope I think to the world around us. My heart is heavy as well for the people in Japan...earthquake, tsunami and now radiation...I never ask, "what else can happen to these people" but I am tempted.
Oh we are going to try your husband's method of foiling the squirrels. It won't matter that it looks kind of hickish....we already are. Ha!

I love that you love your in-laws. I love mine too, but it seems to me there are a lot of folks out there who can't stand theirs. I count us as lucky! Beautiful photos as usual. Love the one of your son playing. Our son has just picked it up and he's learning quickly.
Take care and tell George if he says he's bored again you're going to tell him to read a book. Ha! That always worked when my parents said it, some how I think it might be lost on dear George.

it just amazes me how differently the Japaneze people are handling this disaster...if a young person is in line and gets water but the older person behind them doesn't have one...they pass to their elder...they are very respectful people...something some people in the US should learn...okay off my soap box...great photos..
I was away for a few days and missed you.

Congrats to your husband for outsmarting those very smart squirrels. The situation in Japan is so tragic. It hurts to think about it.
