So I got up early. In my world, 7:20 is early for a Saturday morning. In my husband’s world, however, it is not.
For those that may be thinking ‘well, why can’t husband pack the car and go to the dump himself?’ well, believe me . . . I’m thinking this too.
But I refuse to let any of this bother me today. Because it feels like spring.
I took these photos yesterday afternoon after my walk. I made myself a Friday night cocktail and took the camera outside to sit by the lilac bush.

If you’re new to this blog, I wrote about this beloved bush two years ago, when a tree came down and split it in half.
If a tree falls in the forest . . .
I have always adored the scent of lilac and was thrilled to have moved to a home that had a wonderful old bush in the yard. And when the tree came down and split it in half, I thought the bush would never recover.
But it is – slowly.
These shots are SOOC (Straight Out of Camera), with a slight texture added.
There are shoots coming from the damaged area of the bush.
It’s beautiful.
And I’m so glad to see that it’s going to produce some blooms again this year. Last year we had so few.
This is the dogwood tree by the house. Its beautiful white flowers will be out soon, but I like how the bare branches look against the house.

After seeing your lilac photos (gorgeous, even sooc), I'm telling myself I so need to get outside with my camera! No trips for us this weekend either, but a lot of work around the house - getting things ready for the dump!

Oh I love the first signs of spring! The snow is FINALLY melting here in Vermont and that is a blessing enough, even if we won't see green leaves for at least a month, or two....

I too love lilacs but I had to plant my bush a couple of years ago. It still has precious few blooms :( I am LOVING this weather. xoxo
A dump run at 7:30 am, huh?
We have about five ancient lilacs here at This Old House, I did a happy dance when I learned this... love them.
Last night my husband said "lets sleep as late as we want tomorrow" so we did. He brought coffee up to me at 7:45 which feels like noon to us. No signs of spring on my lilac tree yet (it's still surrounded by about 4 feet of snow) so I thoroughly enjoy seeing yours showing signs of lovely spring. It's coming...it's really, finally, coming! :)

My lilac bush is one of my favorite photo subjects. It's getting old and raggedy though, so I am going to plant a second one. The blossoms look like sugar frosted berries before they fully bloom.
We also took a trip to the dump a few weeks ago. Not so bad and it's nice to have things cleaned up.

We went to a farewell party last night in a town about 25 miles South of us and the dogwoods were already blooming in that neighborhood!!!! They were everywhere!!

Lilacs are the true first signs of spring. Dependable little things aren't they? Ours have been showing just the tiniest smidge of green for so long. Soon they will open.
I have a feeling that many of us have those scented lilac memories from our childhood. It's such a distinct fragrance.
Good on you to not hurry, to sit and enjoy the moment.

Mr O wanted me to get going early and empty out the kitty litter box because he was going to the dump....I was wondering to myself why he couldn't just change the litter himself:) Seems like we have a similar morning going on!
...other than the fact that I am packing for vacation...we leave tomorrow:)

That lilac looks well on the way to recovery - I love lilac too.
My husband is the same way, he gets up and goes running and is home before i am even awake at 7:30 on the weekends. but he falls asleep before 9:00 o'clock every night, and i am almost always up until midnight. i like that quiet time by myself.

i have never been to a dump....okay, when i was a kid i vaguely remember going once with my dad....but other than that, i only know what a dump looks like on TV.....
but if the hubby wanted me to go with him, i think i would have stayed in bed :)
Lilacs are amazingly resilient and hardy. So glad yours is making a comeback. One day I will have a bush of my own. For now I'll borrow my neighbors ; )
I'd say your spring is definitely a couple weeks ahead of ours.
Lilacs are one of my favourite flowers! Thankfully, they're very hardy and will continue to thrive no matter what.

I didn't know there was a 'lilac' bush/tree? Obviously I've never lived anywhere where they grow. I only wish I could smell the real scent instead of what is passed as a scent in some cleaning product!
Could you/would bottle some of that heavenly scent up and send it to me!!!
Spring has sprung down here. Azaleas are blooming, crape myrtles have leafed out, Bradford pears have already gone from white to green, the new grass blades are shooting up through the dead grass, and the birds are singing. All is well!

I think it's sweet your hubby wanted you up to go with him to the dump...I mean...maybe it's his way of being romantic?? I dunno??? Hahahaha....but go with it and like you said, it felt like spring and lordy knows it sure LOOKS like spring at least from my perspective! I'm totally jealous, we're still under a blanket of snow so will be awhile before our lilacs bloom...

The lilac at the manor house is probably settlement era! How cool! I read somewhere that they used lilac plantings to track the migration of settlers across the US , since they tended to take the plants with them when they moved. not sure how true it is. Lilacs are pretty hardy, it takes a lot to kill them. Now you make want to go out and check my buds!

My Sadie had so far four kittens today. Nothing like being a midwife. Im in love with them all and Im not sure she is done. Its her first litter.
