Completely random

The snow has melted completely, and temps a little higher than normal are contributing to a muddy mess on the trails around the property. But at least I can get up and down the driveway again – and out into the world.

It’s been extremely busy at school and for that, I’m grateful. Glad to have a purpose in life, as well as pastimes that keep me content. For me, photography is one of those things that fills my soul. Today, I give you a small collection of things I found interesting this past week.

Frost on the windows of the spare bedroom on Saturday morning. We keep that part of the house chilly because it’s senseless to waste oil to heat it.

I love cream of wheat. Always have. We were out of milk over the weekend and stranded here because of the snow and ice, so I used a little half & half and some water. Totally yummy.

I love the view from my windows.

I just thought this was beautiful, and took it a couple of weeks ago on a frigid weekend morning.

I see doggie bokeh. Do you?

The pastry counter at Di Bruno Bros. on Chestnut Street, in Philadelphia. I loved this place when I visited earlier this month. They have every kind of food imaginable (it seemed) and their cheese section was out of this world. You can buy online, too.

And then there’s my little friend . . .

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love.  For me they are the role model for being alive.  ~Gilda Radner

Tonight I made another yummy meal and I believe my husband liked it. I still wish he would begin cooking again, or even shopping for groceries for that matter. But you can’t have everything. And I knew a good thing when it was going on all these years, so at least there’s that ~

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who likes Cream of Wheat. My husband thinks it's gross!

Love the pictures - glad to see George, his sweet face always makes me smile.

Hoping your husband will be up to cooking soon. I hope he's doing better.

Oh my goodness I LOVE Cream of Wheat, actually I love Malt-o-Meal even better. Love the snow pictures but so glad we have not had but a trace this season so far.

Question: How do you get your name on your photos. I've been taking quite a few and would like to protect some of mine.

Cream of Wheat - such a comforting way to begin the day! Add something from that bakery shelf, and what more could one want?:-)

I'm a cream of wheat girl from waaaaay back and love it with just a little milk and some brown sugar. Trying to leave sugar alone though, so some berries or a few bananas on top may be the answer. Yours looks delish. Think I'll have some for breakfast tomorrow.

I see Jack Frost has been painting at your house too. Sweet plumped from the cold Cardinal. Beautiful images.

I love your random images, each one is beautiful. And I love that Edith Wharton quote. Her home, The Mount, is managed by the older sister of one of my dearest friends.

all i could think of when i saw the cardinal above (besides the fact that the photo is beautiful) is that he looked cold and i would have wanted to invite him in for a cup of tea....

maybe you did :)

and no matter how good you make cream of wheat look, i've never had it and i don't think you could ever even make me try it :(

Beautiful pictures as always.

That pastry counter looks amazing. I'll bet that chocolate covered banana is to die for.

Cream of wheat is indeed good especially when paired with something salty. Like Scrapple. Yes, I said scrapple.

Your picture of the frost reminds me of a song we sing at preschool:

Little Jackie, Jack Frost bites my nose,
Little Jackie, Jack Frost stings my toes,
Little Jackie, Jack Frost climbs the trees,
Little Jackie, Jack Frost paints the leaves.
Little Jackie, Jack Frost thinks its fun
Knocking all the leaves down one by one.
When the winter wind begins to blow,
Little Jackie runs away, Ho! Ho!

Love that photo with the ice on the window..I actually tried to do that once (before I had my macro) but it didn´t work...will try again if it gets that cold again, now that I have my macro.

I am thinking we have something similar to cream of wheat here in Norway which I´ve eaten and liked very much- my kids don´t though...I can´t eat it all the time though, it´s like baby food...hahahaha...do you put anything on your cream of wheat?

I loved the quote that your dog is a heartbeat at your feet...no wonder I´m feeling the love with my six sweet heartbeats around my feet :-)

Have a great evening Kate :-)

I love all of this but especially the little quote - a dog is a heartbeat at my feet. Wow! I looked down at my Blue who is 15 years old and sleeps a lot but is still there beating the same heart that has been near me for all those years.
You know sometimes I open your blog and think "oh I hope it's not got too much on it". Not because I don't enjoy it :) but because my cup almost runneth over - I love everything so much. You touch my heart and that is such a gift. Take care of yourself dear woman Kate x

thecatalanway said...

Oh I forgot to say - love the cup with the wheat thing in it. What pleasure! K x

* The first picture is awesome. What a neat pattern on the window.

** We ate a lot of Cream of Wheat growing up. It was a perfect b-fast on cold mornings. Mom always made her with milk and butter.

*** Great pict of the cardinal!

I think it was your stories and photos about George that finally made me get a new puppy. I used to have a little dog named Mandy. She lived to be 19 years old. When she died in 1998 - it just broke my heart. And I haven't had a dog since then. That is until Christmas when we got Maggie. I had forgotten how much fun dogs are. Thank you and George for inspiring folks like me to get dogs.

I love creamof wheat too!! My husband hates it.

I had to put my little doggy "Duke" down early October and we are picking up our new puppy in 2 days. The house was just too empty. I miss Duke so much so I know this will help. :)

Thank you so much, everyone. And to Lee Owenby - I wish I could write back to you but your e-mail address is hidden from me. I love that you got another dog. It was several years before we got George after our other border collie died, but I could never have waited THAT long. Good for you!
