It was in the twenties here today in Maryland which is quite a difference from the weather this past weekend. But it’s warm inside as I sit under my down throw blanket and toss the tug toy that seems to be our dog’s favorite thing at the moment.
I took these photos to share with you.
And I want to tell you how much I appreciate your visits to my little space here.
I don’t know what I’m doing half the time, and am wondering if it’s time for a change. Change is often good but I get so used to the routine that I don’t want to stray from it. And it’s been good only posting every other day or so.
I took these photos in very low light, upping the ISO to 4000. I really am enjoying this new camera.
Someone wrote asking me which camera and lens I’m using, and I want to point out that I’ve got my gear listed in the sidebar here.
I hope you’ll excuse me for not having much more to say. Oh, I’m fine and all that – nothing that a good trip to a tropical island wouldn’t cure – but sometimes . . . well, sometimes I haven’t got that much to say.
And that’s when I let the pictures do the talking for me.
Thanks again for stopping by today ~
Fair to middling is a term I often heard my mother use, and I still use it. Examples of its usage are found in literary works by Mark Twain and Louisa May Alcott, to name a couple. It seems to have originated in the early 1800’s, from what I can glean, and means something that is moderate to average in quality. Sorta like this post, I guess.

George is so beautiful. no words needed. :)
I understand, some days we just need a dog and a good tug toy...that's all. Boy do I know that look in his eyes in that first photo. That look is one that only a BC can give you, makes me miss my Kylee girl!
Stay warm.
Kat :)
Oh Honey--sometimes, we all feel "fair to middlin'" which is something I've heard all my life. I look forward to your posts--but when you don't feel like doing one--I understand I used to post everyday--and now I seldom post I just don't have anything I feel is interesting to say anymore! One day--that tropical island--may at least be the OBX--and that ain't too bad!
I know that we all love to know that people are reading, but I really don't expect everyone to blog everyday. Do what is right for you. We'll still be here.
And George is adorable.
I don't blog every day either, it just didn't feel right to me. I have been thinking about Paris. I went there once and loved it. I'd just like to go again and this time take lots of photos. I get bored with beaches, there is too much sitting around. See how we're all so different? Isn't it great?
George is a delight and is saying it all. Love this Kate.
Sometimes words are hard to find each day , it is for me. That just who I am.
Lovely blog.
George is quite a dog! His face shows it all. Words sometimes just don't come to us. Cut yourself some slack.:-)
i was experiencing the same thing....just a few words but really not much to share. i thought this new year i'd bog everyday, but nope....every other is all i'm going to be able do for now....until something exciting happens.
isn't a high ISO without noise an amazing thing :)
xo
Fair to middlin' is pretty good, considering it's JANUARY, FREEZING, NOTHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO, THREE MORE MONTHS OF COLD WEATHER, AND oops.
I need to take a lesson from you. Fair to middlin' it is then.
George is Georgeous, as usual.
I know, right??? Sometimes, you just don't have anything to say about anything.
I feel that way a lot, and I let Roy or Sydney talk. They are sometimes way more interesting.
You have GEORGE!!
Thank you for legitimizing "nothing to say." I gotta bad case too. But George looks GREAT as always; and knowing we are blank together is strangely comforting, bloggy pal!

In Texas we say fair to Midland...(a city in Texas)...learned something new...
I can't even imagine a camera with a 4000iso where the photos look so fantastic! Having a fair to middling life here...and it isn't that bad:)
Sometimes just coming and posting next to nothing can be comforting. I find a good deal of comfort in the routine. Yes change is good, but the familiar is nice too. I love coming here and reading whatever you do (or don't) have to say - and a photo of George is always an added bonus!
I think we are all turning into our mothers sometimes. ;-) George has the most beautiful eyes!
That dog says it all for you!
It's hard to know how our blogs are received isn't it? And on those days that you don't really have too many words sometimes it's hard to believe that people are still interested. I always imagine that if I were you - with 30+ comments the norm - I would feel unbelievably confident in what I was doing but it's like many things isn't it, we all are the same underneath.
So, this is a long way round to saying that I visit your blog because although I don't know you I really like the way you see things and it's like a little window onto another world. for me it's ok if it is photos, words, songs, short or long, all about birds or all about George. I just feel good to check in and see you all are there and ok.
Don't feel the need to change anything on my account!
all the best Kate in Catalunya x
It's nice to hear from you every few days, and get my regular dose of George. He has such a sweet BC face! (... and AMEN on the down throw ... I'm camped under mine right now.)
Beautiful pictures! I think a change is good also but we do get ourselves into a routine and it's often hard to change.
All the best for 2012.

oh he is such a cute boy...I will have to check out your camera suggestions...your pictures are fantastic!!
just sayin hi, love seeing sir george in any light.
love n hugs
words?...there were words?...all I saw were those eyes...all that's needed to move on from fair to middlin' to fine and dandy!!
stay warm Kate.
:)
Beautiful doggie! Don't need to elaborate on that!
Forgive me for saying this, but I'm so glad to read this post! I have been struggling to find a subject, a voice, even a photo to post... I don't think I'm quite sunk into the January doldrums yet, but I'm perilously close. And I am totally out of ideas.
So no need to apologize -- we all love to see George. And if you don't have much to say... Well, we're all in the same boat. I just wish I had even some pictures to post. I've got nothing! ;)
xoxo
Its the winter blahs ... you need to drive on up here right now xox
I like your style. I am so guilty of too many words. I often think of just posting pics and then I get carried away. And this year (come spring), I am going to try to concentrate on photographying something other than flowers. And, if it is flowers, something DIFFERENT about the flower. The new camera suits you - photos are tack sharp. I love my D7000!
I love my Canon Xti but it's so old that the highest ISO is 1600. I'm constantly changing settings to work in low light, but if I was every to upgrade, a higher ISO would be my selling point. As always, I love the pics of George :) Follow your heart and stay in your comfort zone...your blog is loved because of you, not how often you post :)
I just love that boy...he has the sweetest face ever! Hope you are doing well...I am in a fair mode myself.
George is so handsome...his expressions say it all. I love that expression "fair to middling"...my mother used to say it as well. I love visiting here, whether you have a lot to say or not, I alway enjoy your photos...they are beautiful!
I think Jan is a fair to middlin' month....after Thanksgiving, Christmas AND then New Years, I think it is just fine to have a *meh* couple of weeks.
Baking bread helps - everyone loves you when you bake bread - and brightens everyone's day.
These pictures do plenty of talking!!! Jim's new favorite toy is just like George's!!! I grew up using that saying....
I have a friend that is the only one I've ever heard use it.
Great pictures of George.
I've missed ya'll. Back today. Been out since the 21st.
Hi, January is a very blah month to me. Forgive me for all of you who have January birthdays. There's no need to feel like you have to write all the time. Any day is fine. We always enjoy pix of the pets. Have a good weekend.
well, it still made me smile. i love old sayings like that...
Ahhhhhhhh, the eyes of love. That's faithful George. I know he warms your heart as much as he does ours!!
That beautiful, beautiful boy! Gorgeous George.
My mother used to say "fair to middling" too. :)
Love George. My dad used fair to middling all the time. Great memories.
Fair to middling pretty much sums it up. Blessings..
You sure do have a very cozy place and it's just fun seeing the everyday there. It's also mind boggling for me to imagine an ISO of 4000! xo ~Lili
I can offer my condo in Florida for you, Country Girl. It gets chilly here too but doesn't stay cold. Of course, I really have ulterior motives. I'm the owner of a Nikon d7000 also and sure would love some one-on-one lessons on how to use it the way you do. You can even bring George. I can just tell that he and my Sheltie named Tuffy would get along great!
Of course, you do have a husband to care for and there's that job thing ... oh well ... just dreaming out loud here.
