On pajama pants and other matters

Before I begin, I’d just like to state for the record that pajama pants are an article of clothing that should only be worn in the home. Fifty percent of the population near my neck of the woods seems to believe otherwise, however.

I’m sorry but I just had to get that out there. And as long as I’m on the subject of attire, underwear was given its name for a reason. You wear them under your clothes. Pull up your damn pants, guys. Yesterday in our local Lab Corp, I had the extreme privilege of viewing someone’s red underpants while he stood in front of where I was sitting. His pants were way down beyond where no pants should go in public and the others in the waiting room were all looking at each other as if to ask, “why?”

I almost did. But I stayed on my best behavior, although I did note that his girlfriend was wearing (yes, you guessed it) pajama pants. And some lovely flip flops in 32 degree weather. Holy heck – is it just me?

Ok. I’m stopping now.

My amaryllis plant is beginning to bloom. I posted a photo of it {here} a couple of weeks ago. I love this color.

My lunch on Saturday. I started the Wheat Belly diet plan last Monday and have already noticed a difference in how I feel (and how my pants fit). I’m not going to harp about dieting here, but this is the first time I haven’t had any cravings on an eating plan. Basically, I’m off anything that contains wheat, although it’s hidden in so many things. I’m not eating breads, pastas, crackers, cookies, cereals, or anything processed. And no more Cream of Wheat, which is a total drag :( I had heard about the plan through a friend, and started on it after reading about it, as I was hoping it would help my arthritic knees. I figured that any subsequent weight loss would just be a great bonus. Ok I’ll stop now, but if you want to read more about it, and/or buy the book, here’s the link:

It was so warm today that I only needed a light sweater for warmth while walking after work. It felt like a spring day in March or April, and although it’s a little freaky and things weed above are beginning to bloom in the earth, I’ll take the warmth. Apparently, the crazy weather has something to do with the jet stream; I heard this tonight on the nightly news.

I’ve been fooling around with the new color bar trend after seeing it on Pinterest and on a blog whose photos I adore. (Hi, Caroline). I think it could be a fun decorating tool, too. The free template is available as a download for PS/PSE on The CoffeeShop Blog. It’s easy to use and I love playing with it.

And look – it even works with sushi.

Sorry. I’m just being silly.

Hope your week is full of smiles. I’m hoping for the same thing after the day I had today. Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

I have never heard of the wheat belly diet until now! I saw those color swatches on the Coffeeshop Blog too, but haven't had time to fool around with it! Hugs from Harford County!

P.S. The weather was divine today!

I totally agree with your thoughts on Pajama bottoms and underwear. Our last foster son and all his friends wore thier pants in such a way that you could always see thier underwear. The you know what of thier pants down to thier knees! I am sure you get that picture! I am a huge fan(addict) of Pinterest and have seen those colour cards, I will have to check them out! Along with the Wheat Belly diet. I already don't eat anything wheat. It is the only kind of diet I have ever had success on. Atkins, you could call it!
Love your photos!

I totally agree with you on the subject of outwear and underwear. I wont show anyone mine if they QUIT showing me theirs. GROSS!!!. I am also a big fan of the color profiles, works great for photo sessions when your subjects can't decide on what to were. I am also going to have to check out the wheat belly stuff as I could really use to loose some around the middle. Great write-up and photo, glad I found you to follow.

I totally agree with you on the pajama pants and underwear.....funny how if so many people feel that way why do we still have so many people dressing that way??? lol....wheat belly diet.....heard of it have not tried it....i guess just make sure with cutting all that out of your diet you are still getting enough fiber, i'm sure you can just make sure you are okay?? This will be the year without a winter......lets just hope it doesn't set us up for drought later..Hugs! deb

I feel the same way you do about pajama pants and underwear; and I'd like to add to those clothing trends I find ridiculous: "evening shoes" during the day; and women in high heels that have no business wearing them..... they look ridiculous. (and I have no business wearing high heels.... so I don't!)

pajama pant issue: agreed. :-)

color bar action: also spent a couple of hours last night playing around with it...quite addictive!

enjoy this lovely weather!

living in a university town we see plenty of pajama bottoms outside of the home {dorm} paired with the hard soled, furry topped bedroom slippers :(

and the jeans too low....oh don't even get me started on that topic or you'll end up sticking a sock in my mouth just to shut me up :)

the wheat belly?......did you know that i can't live without cookies and crackers....seriously, take those away and i'm a goner.....xoxo

Pajama Pants should on;y be worn in the home. Agree
Flip Flops are inappropriate in 32 degree weather. Agreed.
"Pull up your damned pants!" AGREED!
No. It's not just you.
Your Amaryllis is beautiful!
I think I would die without breads, pastas, crackers, cookies, cereals, or anything processed.
The weather has been very strange lately. My neighbors Cherry tree is blooming.
I love your color bars! Very cool.
And I love when you are silly :D

I agree with you that clothing has become casual to the point of being sloppy and disrespectful. However ... as a wheat-farmer's granddaughter ... I must ask, what's wrong with wheat?

I sincerely wonder what the young women of today see in their male counterparts. I mean, really! The girls look like they are old beyond their years, and the boys look like their diapers need to be changed. I never cease to be amused walking behind a guy with hip hop pants down to his whatever, and watching him struggle to keep them from falling down to his knees. Step, step, hitch. Step, step, hitch. Or the other technique: hand constantly in crotch. Kind of a little Neanderthal-ly (is that a word?) But how in heck can a woman look at that and see 'attractive'? I'll take pajama bottoms over outer-underwear any day. **End of rant.** ;o)

Lol...just the other day I saw a woman taking her son to school in fuzzy slippers and pj's. Seriously fuzzy slippers..how can you drive in those!?

So how fun are these color blocking templates? I swear I totally thought of you when I downloaded them! The bird wing is gorgeous!

If you are interested, go here, http://talefromthecoopkeeper.blogspot.com/
She is on this type of diet and boy does she have some good recipes. And funny, go back a few days and find her blog about figs. Go to the bathroom first, it is a must! LOL
I have been so tempted to just get behind some of these kids and pull the pants the rest of the way down. I mean I am not a runner, but I could probably out run him with his jeans around his ankles!
Love the bird wings.

I stopped eating wheat a year and a half ago and feel so much better. I never would have thought that I could give it up as there's wheat in all the comfort foods but after a month, I knew I could never go back. Hope you feel as good without it too.

The colour templates are so much fun too...I was doing a lot of that with my photo's this summer and there's just somthing really satisfying about picking all the most beautiful hues from a photograph and featuring them.

I think the pyjama thing must have come from Asia because when I was in Shanghai 11 years ago, all the ladies wore their pj's while shopping. They weren't ratty old flannelettes but freshly laundered cottons that looked like they had never been slept in and strangely, in a hot climate they looked quite 'fresh'! Weird, I know, but it seemed to work there.

Definitely going to check out the wheat belly thing, thanks for sharing. Hopefully it will help with the Michelin tire belly I've been sporting since Christmas.

You have caused a stir in this girl's mind.

I love the proverb, I have saved the colorbar in my favorites and hae just ordered the Wheat Belly...well, I had one but now I have ordered the book!

Sadly, I am a flip flop lady so if you see me in line ahead of you, please say hello! I do wear boots, too.

Have a fantastic day.

I always always enjoy stopping by ... your photos are growing more awesome! Must be that new camera. Of course, I don't know how they could be any better than before. I too am on a plan to lose the weight ... my knees are soooo bad and dropping 20lbs will help tremendously ...done it before. Why the heck do I let it creep back up??? Ugh!

I can understand .. sort of .. the fancy pajama pants for flying on a plane or being a teenager but the showing the under pants .. I've never understood that one. Better be fancy fancy pants with three layers of them ... oh to be old and wise !! Now I'm off to look up your no wheat diet ...

Oh how I LOVE that bird wing image!!! As for pajamas, I have never worn them out, but in my neck of the woods, I STILL always feel under-dressed at the market... :)

And YAY Wheat Belly! Ten pounds and counting since January 1st. :0). xoxo

I so agree about the pajama pants. It makes me crazy when I see people wearing them. I see women and men wearing them on the streets, while shopping, and on the trains. And what is with the new trend of wearing your slippers as shoes? I see women on their way to the office in the morning all dressed up with their sheepskin slippers on. Slippers, not boots. In the winter, no less.

I am loving those color charts. How very cool. I think you could sell your idea to Benjamin Moore, ya know. Just sayin!

I drove my son to the bus stop this morning in my pajama pants and thought "Lord, don't let me get in an accident with these things on, please".

Flipflops in winter is just plain craziness. It just is.

I have to admit that I do have quite a love affair with PJ pants. I guess the difference is, I don't go to the store in mine (maybe just the mail box on occasion!). :)

Oh the wing .... The wing .... Steals my heart!
Hubby and I have been eating healthier since the end of September. ... Portion control and counting calories. We've lost about 30 lbs and feel so much better!
I say do whatever works and makes you feel good! That's what's important!

yay for your amaryllis bloom! i'm trying to be on a diet, now you have me curious about this one and i will have to check it out.

and i am totally with you on the pajama thing. i practically live in mine since i work at home, but i never, ever go out in public in them. i just don't get it.

times have changed i guess...

I don't mind what people want to wear as long as their backsides are covered. I do not like the pants falling down at all, but I really don't mind cute pajama pants on young girls or young ladies. It's so much better than skin tight leggings that show every single thing.

The color bar/wing combo is just one of the loveliest things ever! And the playfulness of the sushi was so cool too Kate. Enjoyed your mini rant and I feel the very same, but secretly I would have loved for you to have asked him "WHY?"!!! The "wheat belly" subject is intriguing, especially when lack of cravings are involved. I'll have to check that one out. xo ~Lili
