A walk in the park

I spent the weekend in New York City and have some photos to share with you. You knew I’d take pictures, didn’t you?

This weekend, I visited with Daryl, who I met through blogging. On Saturday, we headed out to walk through Central Park, taking a cab up to Columbus Circle and beginning at the entrance there. The day began quite cloudy yet mild but later on, the sun burst through the clouds. It was really a perfect day for walking.




The San Remo building is so photogenic. I love the double towers.

This carved stone finial caught my eye. That’s the Bethesda Fountain to the right, in the background.




It really was such a beautiful day and so many people were out enjoying it.




This is The Dakota, one of the most interesting buildings in the city. Back in the late 1800’s, when it was built, it stood alone – far away from the hustle and bustle. It stands at the northwest corner of 72nd Street and Central Park West.

You may say I’m a dreamer . . . but I’m not the only one.

The Imagine Circle, dedicated to the memory of John Lennon, was designed by Bruce Kelly, chief landscape architect for the Central Park Conservancy. It lies directly across from the Dakota, in Strawberry Fields.

I had to wait quite some time for the mosaic to clear of people who were having their photo taken here.




I thought this was an interesting shot. Taken from a little bridge while walking in the Ramble. At least, I think it was the Ramble. I’m not entirely sure.

What I am sure of is that I added a texture overlay to the photo.




The view from Belvedere Castle. Built primarily for decoration, the castle sits atop Vista Rock, one of the park’s highest elevations. The turret on the castle is actually the highest point in the park.

I love the fact that the city is so full of nature and beauty. But I’ll tell you, our legs were absolutely killing us after walking for hours on end, up and down hills. It’s actually quite hilly in the park.

On Sunday, our friends from CT came to town for lunch.




We ate at an excellent Thai place on 9th Avenue, between 51st and 52nd Streets. Daryl and I got there first, just before they opened, and we got the best table in the house.




The restaurant is long and narrow and long and the décor is interesting.




Lauren, me, Annie, Daryl. More photos to come tomorrow. And please don’t say anything about my giant man hands here. How in heaven’s name this always seems to happen is beyond me. I think it’s the angle of the camera. Yes, that must be it.
