I have the day off due to the President’s Day holiday. This morning for breakfast, I enjoyed my english muffin with the orange marmalade I bought in the city this weekend as a Valentine treat for my husband. It’s delicious!
I also brought home some wonderful coffee from Zabar’s which I sipped in the sunshine on our front porch this morning after taking a big walk with my favorite dog around the property.
Thanks for all of your heartfelt comments yesterday (and every day). It’s such a pleasure opening my mail and seeing your kind words.
I’ve met so many wonderful people through this crazy thing called blogging.
Here’s a rather mixed-up assortment of photos from my weekend get-away.
This is Lauren’s dog, Dora, who greeted us at the kitchen door dressed in her Valentine’s Day finery when we arrived in CT. What a sweet dog she is.
Cupid the talking bird. What a pretty bird with beautiful colors.
The cheese counter at Zabar’s in NYC.
Trees and taxi, along Central Park West at 79th.
The Dakota at Central Park West and 72nd. I want to go back and take more photos from further away of this wonderful building.
There was a lot of this.
And a little of this, too.
We visited Ricky’s on W 72nd (between Columbus and Amsterdam). It’s a really fun store that carries health & beauty supplies and all sorts of fun stuff like this. I just find this kind of thing really amusing. I’m sorry.
I’ll end with this lonesome dove (groan) in Lauren’s backyard in CT.
See you tomorrow, my friends.

We all miss you already!
Wow, I would not be able to walk straight, my eyes would be going every where. Too much to see. The cheese store alone boggles my mind.
I love the joke gifts. Never apologize for things that make you laugh.
It looks like you had a wonderful time and that it gave you chance to recharge your batteries a little!
Seeing that Tiptree marmalade takes me back to England! I had Wilkin & Sons jams the whole week we were there and fell in love with them. So much so that a few months after we got home Mr. Tide bought me some online! YUM!
Kat :)
They didn't close school here in Vermont, to honor the President's...hmmm.
I love your photos (as usual)...especially the colorfully pastel parrot :)
Love you NYC pictures. am going there myself in May, can't wait to see some fabulous sights and take a lot of pictures. love the cheese counter, I may have to go there too. Hugs, Marla
What a fun trip! Love all the photos, especially 'Tooters' LOL. The cheese counter looks heavenly, but I'm a Dairy girl.
the wife savers....
now my hubby would buy those by the case for me...."for women over the edge"
the cheese...well I am from wisconsin :)
and new york....my sister lived in manhattan YEARS ago {and years before I figured out that taking photos is the answer to living longer}....now I really want to go back.....
English muffins and marmalade - I can relate to that Kate! As for that wonderful cheese counter - wow, wish I had been in that store when we were in New York last summer.
wow...what an amazing selection of cheeses!
I agree, I've never seen more different kinds of cheese before in my life. We have Cracker Barrel and Velveeta, perhaps some Kraft Parmesan. The End.
Great pictures - thanks for sharing them.
wv=moning. I'm still moning about missing the trip, but it was nice not to have to go to work this moning.
Dora looks beautiful eh? Lovely time you had!!

LOL UMMM the orange marmalade is making my mouth water, it looks so delicious! Now the cheese store is heaven to me! I would probably just have to hand over my weeks pay check LOL. great post!
Oooh, I love Cupid. Great shot.
Thanks everyone. Welcome Judy from over at Hyacinth's post.
Ha could tell you had fun and a great time. Thanks for the pics. Never been to NY. Now I've got the feeling you took us along a little bit. To bad we couldn't share all the great food you had ;-)

WOW! They had Wife Savers in stock??!! LOL! I crack myself up!
I love New York. I've been to the Dakota. It's eerie-looking, isn't it?
You're so lucky to live so close to ath wonderful city!
I meant "that". How on earth did "ath" come out? *sigh*
Home always looks so much better upon arrival! Lovely pics of the city.
You surehave had a wonderful time. I love that cheese shop.Wow.
Beautiful and interesting pictures. I LOVE orange marmalade!!!
Lovely post! Thanks for sharing.
Just got back from vacation too and I completly agree that one of the best parts of going away is the coming back....Oh and I love marmalade with English Muffins but every time I go to NYC I have to have bagels with lox and cream cheese...that is something that is hard to find here...
Loved all your winter snow pics btw:) You certainly got more snow than we did up north...
They should have a larger variety of fart pills.. like 'silent' fart pills, 'who farted in the elevator' fart pills, 'sneaky' fart pills... Well, anyway that's how I'd market them.. LOL

The Blue Ridge Gal
Beautiful photos one and all. I'm glad you managed to go and that you had the expected great time.
How fun for you :) Such sights to see - I've never been to NYC...really need to go there. I could spend some serious money in that cheese shop. YUMMM.
Your pics are awesome as always.
Ohhh I could have made one heck of a cheese plate!
Glad you had fun...
Love your pics, since I have never been to NY.
Glad you had a safe trip and welcome back!
Hi Kate...your weekend looked wonderful...I always enjoy going into NY....and Zabars wonderful cheese counter...I do miss food stores like they have in the city...It's a shame the bloggers from Va. couldn't make the trip...Nothing is more fun then a bunch of picture taking food eating laughing bloggers.....I forwarded your site onto my best friend in NJ who is looking to purchase a new camera for her trip to Paris....I also told her to look for you B&H button as we shop there and I have always been happy with their prices and service....Looking forward to seeing more pics from the trip....Sue.
i got stuck at the cheese shop... Darly put this on the list of peach has to see this WHEN she makes it to NYC... might want to make it at the bottom of the list cause prying me away might be hard .... Did i mention I love cheese!
Love Dora too!
I can see me now if i ... WHEN i make it to the big city I will be the one eveyone knows is not from there cause my head will be in the clouds my chin on the ground and ... anyway you catch my drift I so know the pics you ladies post simply dont do it justice!
thanks Kate LOVE IT!!!!!!
ZABAR'S what fun! I haven't been there in decades, does that make me old?...I am so glad that you had fun...and laughed...and was a bit silly! smiles.
Welcome back Kate! I hope you had a wonderful trip to NYC. I sure wish it wasn't so far away or I'd go more often.
Zabars looks like a fabulous place! Now THATS a lot of cheese! And THATS a lot of snow for NYC! He hee . . . .
Glad you are home safe and sound : )
The pictures are great: the dog, the parrot, especially the cheese shop! A country girl from Texas who lives in Arizona has trouble relating to a cheese shop like that! They probably have cheeses there that I've never even heard of!
Good good weekend.
You have killed me with a photo of Zabar's cheese counter. I die.
I can hardly contain myself, I so want to guess the next title of your blog, I say that saying all the time, my step-children and grandchildren then look at me like I've gone crazy. I'm also in agreement about Zabar's "Wow".
i would have been in almost heaven in that cheese shop. so glad you all had a great week end.
<><
Wonderful pictures, I enjoyed every one. I love the architecture in The City, and the occasion to be in places like Zabar's. Sigh. Welcome home.
Wait a second...didn't you just get a whole stream of days off...? Get the guest room ready, I'm moving in there.
Looks like you had a great trip. Excellent photos and you've gotta get a yellow cab shot if you're in NYC, am I right?
Luv the photos. How can you choose with all that cheese. I've been accused of being 1/2 rat!
It was a super weekend ...
I realized that I tried to comment yesterday but it would not go through. Now what was I talking about???
I always love seeing all your travel photos!!!
Such gorgeous photos!!!!
I LOVE Zabar's!!!
