Morning light and fresh snow

This was my world when I woke on Wednesday. Snow had fallen through the night, accumulating to just under 4 inches and a 2-hour delay was called for our school. I slept in for an extra hour and then got up just in time to get these photos.

DSC_0043 copy 2

I have to arrive at my job at the school by 7:30 every morning, so I wake up in the dark all winter long. A 2-hour delay is a luxury and one of the perks of working at a school.

Perks aren’t all about money now, are they?

 DSC_0047 copy 2

The snow was a wet one, sticking to the branches of the trees, transforming them into something ethereal. I love how they look covered with snow.

I’m glad it was only 4 inches, though. It’s so much more difficult to shovel heavy snow.

 DSC_0045 copy 2

I wanted to stay home.

DSC_0054 copy 2

And I love how the sun looks coming up.

DSC_0059 copy 2

A big storm is headed our way tomorrow and the weather forecast calls for accumulations up to 2-feet. We will be snowbound here as the driveway is tough to get in and out of in the snow and it’s a third of a mile long through woods at that. I don’t mind being snowbound as long as there is power to keep warm.

I’ll keep you posted, k?

And now, since it’s Friday and I love finding more out about all of you, inquiring minds would like to know the following . . .

* * * * * * * * * * * * * *  * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

1. What was the first real job you ever had and how old were you?

2. What food did you used to dislike but now enjoy?

3. What was the last thing you regretted purchasing as soon as you got it home?

4. Where do you go when you need to spend a make-me-feel-better money?

5. How long would it take you, via the quickest means available, to get to the place of your birth from where you are right now?

See you in the comments, my friends . . .

PS ~ When I am able, I enjoy responding to many of these questions. Make sure your comment has an e-mail attached by following [these instructions]. If you’d like, that is.

I love these Q&A's.

My first real job was when I was 20 years old as a deputy clerk in District Court for the State of Louisiana.

I used to dislike cold cereal. But now I like some of the healthy ones but with very little milk...don't like 'soggy'.

A pair of sunglasses that I bought today.

At the supermarket where I buy things that I know I shouldn't be eating, but what the heck!

I can drive for 6 hours and be there. With all the restrictions on flying these days, it would take longer than the 6 hours.

Happy Friday everyone!

Boo for snow...I'm flying up to DC and I dread it. These shots are gorgeous but it's as close as I want to get to the snow.

A feel good purchase, HomeSense or a fabric store. I'm really into fabric right now.

FUN FUN.... * I absolutely love the snow on the clothes pins. LOVE it!

Regretted ~ Some new shoes that really didn't fit but I was tired and needed to wear something that weekend. I had to stuff tissue paper in them so they would fit. Now they sit on a shelf.

Place of Birth ~ I live about an hour and 15 minutes from my old house. I don't get to my home town anymore. I drive by though on the way to somewhere else and wave.

1. What was the first real job you ever had and how old were you?

There was babysitting at 12 but my first REAL job was working in the business office at the nursing home where my aunt was the administrator and my mom was the activity director. I was paid under the table while I was 14 and then officially after I could get my work permit at 15.

2. What food did you used to dislike but now enjoy?

Sausage. I hated it when I was younger and now I love it (too much!). :-)

3. What was the last thing you regretted purchasing as soon as you got it home?

Generally some kind of food because I broke the golden rule of grocery shopping - never go when you're hungry.

4. Where do you go when you need to spend a make-me-feel-better money?

Nordstrom's Rack. It's an outlet store where you can get all of the stuff that is off-season or didn't sell at the regular Nordstrom's stores.

5. How long would it take you, via the quickest means available, to get to the place of your birth from where you are right now?

About 45 minutes.

2. Mushrooms. Hated them when I was a kid, love them now.

3. A car. My husband just "surprised" me with a new one, one that I don't want and I already regret having it.

4. Target. I can find anything and everything I need at Target and usually for a deal!

5. I would drive 20 minutes to the airport, have a 2.5 hour flight, then a 45 minute drive to the place of my birth. That's where my parents are right now and I would like to go visit!

Have a great weekend!

Wow! Your pictures are so gorgeous!

And now on to your ?'s:

1. The first job I had was at a winery, on the bottling line placing the cap (that piece of tin like stuff that goes over the top of the bottle and covers the cork) on the bottles right before they went through the machine that molded the cap to the bottles. I was 15 years old--and it wasn't really legal for me to be working the line but they had someone quit and they needed someone. It was really interesting when the molding machine malfunctioned and started slinging bottles against the wall next to me.

2. I used to not be able to eat mashed potatoes AT ALL. It was something about the texture or something. Now I love 'em--especially the way my hubby makes them (lots of sour cream, Lawry's Seasoning Salt, and butter). Oh man, now I'm hungry!

3. I haven't had the funds to buy much of anything to regret lately, LOL.

4. My favorite store to visit when I am having that entitled feeling, LOL, is our local Home Depot or Lowe's. I always have a little project to finish up.

5. It would take me 3 hours to drive to the city of my birth.

Cool questions! Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Those pictures are wonderful, as are all your pictures...there's something about the sun and snow that is absolutely magical.

. I honestly don't know, because I've been working for my parents (on our farm and in our stores) since I was old enough to count change back to a customer.

2. Sweet potatoes...loved them as a kid, took it into my head that I hated them when I was a bit older, but now I love'em again.

3. I don't go shopping often, but I am the queen of returns.

4. The quilt shop!

5. About 3 hours by car.

I don't know where you come up with these questions but I love it:

1. What was the first real job you ever had and how old were you? At the age of probably 12 I started babysitting and did it for years. I made enough money to put a down payment on my first car, a 1969 Chevy Malibu, chocolate brown with white top.

2. What food did you used to dislike but now enjoy? Peppers of all kinds. Could not stand them now love them. Still HATE milk.

3. What was the last thing you regretted purchasing as soon as you got it home? Oh that happens often, usually with clothes.

4. Where do you go when you need to spend a make-me-feel-better money? Amazon.com

5. How long would it take you, via the quickest means available, to get to the place of your birth from where you are right now? I'm here...born and raised in Tulsa, actually raised in Broken Arrow, the suburb of Tulsa

I'm so happy I found your blog (through JackDaddy)! Your photos are lovely. I grew up in MD, so I felt a bit homesick seeing them. I remember those fun snow days where we got to go to school late or not at all....

Here are my answers:
1. I worked as a typist for the Gaithersburg Gazette weekly newspaper. I was 16.

2. Hated mushrooms as a kid, started loving them in college.

3. A sweater vest for me, too! Except I bought it on eBay, so that's my excuse. And it was only $1.99, plus $7.99 shipping.

4. Fabric store.

5. California to Korea, so maybe 20 hours by plane?

4. Barnes and Noble - even it if is just to get a coffee. A bookstore is one of my fav all time spots.
5. 1 hour and 27 minutes. I mapquested it :) Of course it would take a LOT longer today since our roads are terrible with the snow. I was very surprised - I thought it would take over 2 hours but mapquest showed me as easier way to get ther!

This was FUN!

1) First real job/what age -
My sister and I were in commercials and print ads as children - but we did not consider it work and never saw the money, so... I will say Godfather's Pizza age 15. Yeah Taco Pizza!
2) Food disliked now like -
Cherries. Fresh. Blech! Now I have a few cherry trees in my backyard and I eat so many that... well that is for another blog. But I used to love marachino cherries and got spanked for eating them from the jar. Now the sight of them makes me ill.
3) Regretted purchase - The big red cabled sweater that cups under my butt.
4) Make-me-feel-better money -
So glad every other person here does this! I like to go to the chocolate shop and pick out the pieces and have them wrapped up beautifully and secret them onto my neighbor's back porch step. She has a crap life. I caught her crying when she saw the first box and it brought such joy to my heart. 6 years later I am still doing it about 3 times a year.
5) Quickest way to get birthplace -
I was born in the desert in CA. SO, eliminating military travel - flight, flight, car... 12 hours ish.

I like to over think these things.

Do you think you could include the names of the birds you snap? If you know them? You could not have driven me away from those snow photos. Lovely and peaceful. Thank you.

To Zoe,
I enjoy being able to respond but am only able to when you enable your e-mail to be viewed by me. It's in your 'edit profile' under privacy. I've responded to everyone here (I hope) who has had their e-mail enabled. But I couldn't not respond to your answer for number 4.

I have never read anything so wonderful in the comment section. You have absolutely made my day. I am coming to visit your blog to see 'just who is this person'?!!

Well Kate, I have been out of the loop with papers to grade and grades to post, progress reports due, and living episode #92 Re-wiring: This Old House of Ours...I saw this and want to participate even if two weeks late!
1. My first REAL job where I began paying into Social Insecurity was as a long distance operatorfor Southern Bell. I was 16 and a junior in high school. I worked 6 to 10 each evening.
2. Asparagus and fresh spinach are foods I would never have eaten as a childbut delicacies to me now.
3. I bought a table cloth that I did not need...after promising myself to "get rid of stuff"! I returned it.
4. For a quick make me feel better outing I like to visit my local plant nursery-Blooming Colors- which has added a fresh vegetable market & a cafe which serve crepes...hence the Crepe Myrtle Cafe!
5. It would take about two hours and twenty minutes to drive to the site of the hospital where I was born...but it is no longer there. Richard Scrushy bought and then demolished it.
