When was the last time someone gave you flowers?

We finally returned to school today and I think that everyone was relieved to be back on a regular schedule. And I do mean everyone. We had a little more snow today and my husband took these photos from the kitchen window.

DSC_0371 copy 2

A female cardinal keeps her eye on the feeder.

DSC_0364 copy 2

And another is watching.

DSC_0421 copy 2

A male cardinal on the trunk of the dogwood tree.

DSC_0403 copy 2

And this, his favorite, which he couldn’t wait to show me when I came home. I thought it was wonderful.

I love playing the question and answer game and finding out more about all of you and realized that I hadn’t posted it last Friday. Earlier this month, I read an answer to one of the questions that I just want to share with you. I hope I don’t embarrass the person who wrote it.

The question was: Where do you go when you need to spend make-me-feel-better money?

And what touched my heart was this answer:

Make-me-feel-better money -
So glad every other person here does this! I like to go to the chocolate shop and pick out the pieces and have them wrapped up beautifully and secret them onto my neighbor's back porch step. She has a crap life. I caught her crying when she saw the first box and it brought such joy to my heart. 6 years later I am still doing it about 3 times a year.

Reading this just made me so glad.

Flowers ~ On Valentine's Day

Coffee ~ Vanilla Creamer
Tea ~ sugar

Potato ~ butter, pepper, salt & either sour cream which I don't normally have so I'll use ranch or blue cheese dressing. Add a touch of cheese on top. Kind of a salad sort of deal. No tomatoe though..

Weekend ~ Clean the garage .. who's kidding who ... I'll take any portion of it

Night ~ Waiting for my old dog to come inside. Ok, I'll check my email and maybe check blogs ...

When was the last time someone gave you flowers?
It was sometime right around Thanksgiving... they were the colors of fall and they made my heart smile.

What do you like in a cup of coffee or tea? Fat free half and half and sugar with my coffee and tea

What do you like on a baked potato? Everything! :) I'm fine with butter, salt, and better... but there are days a girl just has to indulge. I love going to McAlister's Deli from time to time and ordering a spud ole. It's perfection!

What is something you really need to accomplish this weekend? This is a very busy weekend. My husband and I never got to have a traditional wedding because he deployed just a couple of months after proposing and I was finishing up my senior year of undergrad. We were supposed to have the ceremony at the beginning of November, but the Ft. Hood shootings happened 2 days before and he was called back to TX. So, we are finally having our dream "wedding" and moving the rest of our things from SC to NY.

What are you most likely to be doing when you’re up in the late, late hours of the night? snuggling with my husband and puppy and watching Conan (at least we used to). It's also common for a book to keep me up until late at night.

Your husband captured some beautiful pictures this morning. I'm glad you are back to a routine and happy about it! :)

The tea question made me laugh - coffee makes me crazy so I do tea, but still have it with a little milk (as my Grandmother used to) and a squirt of whipped cream on the top. Now don't go telling anyone! :)

I just love visiting your "place" on the internet!

Last summer. My brother brought me some coneflowers for the garden.

I don't drink coffee and I like a spoon of sugar in my tea which I prefer over ice.

Baked potato... ahhh, butter and salt at home, the same with bacon bits (the real thing) and cheese if I'm out.

I really need to get my laundry caught up but if it is nice outside after the weather we've had I will be out with my pups.

Reading blogs or playing on the computer to chase away whatever the reason is that I can't sleep.

That gesture made by the person with the chocolates has overwhelmed me to the point that I can't even remember the questions. Just want to say, that is such a wonderful act of kindness, and very inspirational too.

I do remember the baked potato question, mostly because I view baked potatoes as one of my top ten reasons for living. The answer depends on the mood, but usually sour cream and salt. Occasionally salsa and fresh jalapeno peppers sliced thinly(summer only). A long time ago, chili and cheese and sour cream. Potatoes are a blank slate just begging to be adorned.

1.When was the last time someone gave you flowers? Gosh, I had to think about this, when I turned 40, 9 years ago - the hubs has never been a flower giver. But he's so great at other things I really don't mind

2.What do you like in a cup of coffee or tea?
I like my coffee and tea straight, but if my coffee is a latte, make it skinny with sugar free vanilla bean syrup.

3.What do you like on a baked potato? Everything but the kitchen sink. Sometimes it's butter and cheddar cheese and sour cream. Sometimes it's sour cream and hot salsa and black beans, sometimes left over Chili is called for. I like to make my baker my meal.

4.What is something you really need to accomplish this weekend?
Baking my hubby a birthday cake, he turns 70 and we're going out with 6 people for dinner and returning to our house for dessert.

5.What are you most likely to be doing when you’re up in the late, late hours of the night?
It depends on why I'm up, I might be watching a movie, I might be sewing, or I might be on the internet researching something or doing emails if my brain won't shut down.

What do you like in a cup of coffee or tea? I'm a tea drinker and I prefer plenty of sugar.

What do you like on a baked potato? lots and lots of butter with a decent amount of salt and pepper - nothing fancy.

What is something you really need to accomplish this weekend? There are so many things that could fall under this category as I am still in university.

What are you most likely to be doing when you’re up in the late, late hours of the night? Honestly, I'll probably be on the internet, doing homework, or reading. If I had my way of it I would be reading all the time!

Hi Kate,
Love the birds flying around the feeder.

Now about your questions Love them.
Here I'll go.
1. Flower I got last saturday (Valentines, wich we in Holland never celebrate) from my husband as a surprise.

2. I'll have my coffee black with to lumps of sugar. Tea depents on what taste it is somedays no sugar at all is needed.
But most of the time I'll hot up milk and add instant coffee to it, gives you something like a cappuchino.

3. Ohhh this ones easy. Garlic mayonaise.

4. I need to go to town and get my youngest one new shoes (he grows tooo darn fast). And saturday we're taking my parents out for diner because they are always there in our lifes when we needed them the most. Just to say thanks.

5.Never ever am I late. I'm such an early bird that I need my sleep.
So yea early in the mornings and this can be from 6 am on, I'll also cruise blogs and work out all the pics I've been taken to organize.

Thanks for this it's been a ball to work on your questions Kate.
Stay well. Hugs Dagmar

I don't blame your husband for pride over the Cardinals at the feeder photo; it is so cooool! I live on a golf course in FL and don't play golf--ha!!! Anyway, I have some of the most superduper bird watching, with no feeder, in my yard. Because of the cold weather, I sit in the breakfast nook and work on my computer and watch the action. Yesterday, there were about 25 Robins hopping around, squawking away, a Bluejay--even if they are scoundrels, I love them--a big old Pileated Woodpecker, a downy or hairy Woodpecker, and a group of Bluebirds! I love them all, but I never have my camera! Oh well, one of these days.

1. My sweet 18 year old nephew sent me flowers on my b'day last October.
2. Half and Half in my coffee; in my tea--anything!
3 I love potatoes just about any way you can think of, but probably the 'purist' way best--real butter and salt n pepper.
4. Quality time with my sisters and Mom!!
5 I am a very, very rare late nighter, but if I am up late, I'd probably be reading, knitting or obsessing--not a good thing at all!

1. When was the last time someone gave you flowers? I really don't remember... how sad is that. I do remember on Valentine's day 16 years ago my daddy brought me a single pink rose in a vase that was probably the most special flower of my life. Watermen don't do flowers or chocolate or love notes..

2. What do you like in a cup of coffee or tea? More creamer than coffee...

3. What do you like on a baked potato? Sour Cream and Pepper

4. What is something you really need to accomplish this weekend? I really need to accomplish taking my daughter and her friends 5 of them now I think to dinner and movies for her birthday.. she will be 16 on the 22nd. I know that doesn't sound like something that will need accomplishing but for me right now.. that is exactly what it takes.

When was the last time someone gave you flowers?

About 4 years ago after I had knee surgery. However, I do buy myself (grocery store) flowers when I see some I like and want to take macros.

What do you like in a cup of coffee or tea?

Sugar! And now milk. I prefer steamed milk but that only happens if I got to Starbuck's for an Awake Tea Latté.

What do you like on a baked potato?

Love potatoes! I try not to eat them at I need to lose weight. Butter, salt & pepper is a standard. Love to spread bar cheese on the skin. But really love chili and cheese. (Now you see why I avoid them.)

What is something you really need to accomplish this weekend?

So much needs to be done. But all was on hold for son's special olympics basketball tournament. Maybe I will put away the Christmas tree next week.

What are you most likely to be doing when you’re up in the late, late hours of the night?

Twittering. (blush)

That's such a loving thing for that person to do for another human being in need. I've sent 'care packages' to friends who are going through a rough patch and it always gives me so much joy to feel like I've brightened their day in some small way. Love those warm fuzzies...

1. I don't remember the last time someone gave me flowers. Hmmm...that's kind of sad. I don't typically wait for that though, I buy my own when I feel the need. Today may be a good day for that, actually.

2. I drink both my coffee & tea black. Unless, it's a mocha and then I like the chocolate & whipped cream on top.

3. I rarely eat baked potatoes, but when I do, I like sour cream & grated cheddar cheese.

4. Ugh...I REALLY need to clean my fish tank. And, vacuum, and downsize. Probably won't get to the downsizing though.

5. I'm rarely up in the late hours of the night. I sleep very well. Love my sleep time.

Blessings,
Carolynn

When was the last time someone gave you flowers?

About a month ago when my 3-year niece went and picked a flower off one of the hedges in our backyard and gave it to me. :-)

What do you like in a cup of coffee or tea?

Um, diet coke? Unfortunately, I don't like coffee or tea. (I say unfortunately because they both have more caffeine. I've tried liking them both, I really have. Just can't do it.)

What do you like on a baked potato?

Butter, sour cream, salt & pepper.

What is something you really need to accomplish this weekend?

Laundry! And cleaning the bathroom (ugh!).

What are you most likely to be doing when you’re up in the late, late hours of the night?

Reading, watching tv or wasting time online.

1. When was the last time someone gave you flowers?
July 18, 2002. It was the day before my husband passed away. He bought flowers for me almost every week of the 13 years that we were married. I still have the flowers from that last day...I had them dried and sealed so that I would always have flowers from him...I miss him so.

2. What do you like in a cup of coffee or tea? I like both my coffee and tea straight up. No sugar, no cream.

3.What do you like on a baked potato? Butter, chives, salt and pepper.

4. What is something you really need to accomplish this weekend? Nuttin'. I don't really need to do much of anything...

5. What are you most likely to be doing when you’re up in the late, late hours of the night? Knitting, reading a good book, watching a movie, or blaring music and dancing through the house.

Back again! Just a comment about what one is likely to be doing when up in the late, late hours of the night. Before I learned there are many interesting blogs I never turned on my laptop at night. If nothing better was on TV I would watch QVC or HSN. Never bought much but I did make some good buys at about 2 am! ;)

1. I can't remember the last time. My husband (then, he was my fiance) bought me roses for Valentine's Day 2008. I've been thinking of getting flowers at the store just to take some photos of them and to brighten up the house!

2. I'm a coffee addict! I love flavored creamers. Bailey's now has creamers and I'm in love with the Irish Cream.

3. Butter, Salt, and Pepper.

4. Relay for Life! We are walking all night at Mount St. Mary's (where I work).

5. I'm an 80 year old trapped in a 32 year old body. I usually can't stay awake past 10:30..11 is stretching it. :)

I'm late, but I like to play along :)

When was the last time someone gave you flowers?
-Last Wednesday. Larry got me my Valentine's day fowers early, because he was afraid he would forget. [why is he so afraid? has something BAD happened to him when he forgot Valentine's flowers before? hmmmmmmmm]

What do you like in a cup of coffee or tea?
-In coffee, half & half. In tea, it depends on the kind - honey in some, nothing in others and honey and half & half in Chai.

What do you like on a baked potato?
-This one restaurant where I worked used made a twice baked potato that had boursin, marinated mushrooms, cheese & bacon. Yum.

What is something you really need to accomplish this weekend?
-Since I'm not working at a "real" job right now, weekends aren't as frantic as sometimes - I will probably do some cooking and pit-chure taking though.

What are you most likely to be doing when you’re up in the late, late hours of the night?
-Reading, always. I have to read before trying to go to sleep. latest book I was wishing would never end, because it was so good: "The Outlander" by Gil Adamson. Amazing! [not to be confused with the series by Diana Gabaldon, which I also like, but not like I loved this one]
