My search for the holy grail (of butter dishes)

I had a list of things I needed to do this weekend and am glad to say that all of them, with the exception of a photo mosaic, have been crossed off. I’ve often said that the trick to accomplishing everything on your list is to have a very short list.

Seriously though, I did get a lot done. And in my down time, I saw some beautiful things I’d like to share with you. While surfing blogs this weekend, I came across the following:

These photos at Oz Girl’s Photo Spot of a mama bird feeding her babies.

This beautiful photograph of a dandelion by Sharon at A New England Life.

A blogging buddy who has been hired by a company to take photos of their food and this is her practice shot.

And finally, this beautiful butter dish.

I found this at the new Anthropologie store at our local mall. Have you ever visited one of these stores? Oh, my ~ it’s a treat for the senses and I love some of their vintage inspired items.

I wasn’t planning on buying anything but it was nice to window shop. I hadn’t realized how much they have in the way of home goods, and then I saw this little dish . . .

DSC_0557 copy 2

. . . and I fell in love. Can you love a butter dish?

DSC_0560 copy 2

I’ve been looking for one for years, not like an insane quest for the holy grail of butter dishes, but rather just a decision that until I found the right one, there would be no butter dish.

DSC_0567 copy 2Can anyone tell me how many times I’ve said butter dish in this post? For heaven’s sake, woman. Anyway, I may need to stay away from this store.

There’s just too much to love.

Another thing I’ve been wanting to do for awhile is take a new profile photo. The one I currently use shows me in a winter jacket and as much as I love the colors and the general fuzziness of the photo, it’s time to lighten up.

Profile

Just as I was about to take this photo, my husband came out of the kitchen and said something funny and when I saw it, I thought it might be the one. But the jury’s still out on that.

Hope you have a beautiful week, everyone.

Until later, my friends . . .

The butter dish would definitely have gotten my attention....don't blame you one bit for snapping that up.
And I like the picture.....I do.
Next one you can show your EYES.....and then we will have ALL of the pieces, we can put them together for a WHOLE picture.
I envy that Snappy Di.....she has no problem taking straight on, full length up close and personal photos of herself.......gotta love her.
She is braver than I.

Of course you can love a butter dish..and Im speaking from experience here! lol
I happen to "adore" mine! And I mean that..
I,ve warned my husband not to break that dish because of how much it means to me! lol
I got mine in Haliburton Ontario at one of the autumn craft tours where you go from one house to another in Haliburton country and visit the little shops in peoples homes.
I found one and I fell in love..and am still happily in love..even a few years after :)
And if you want to see it come and check out my blog, and Ill post it there..its time we all appreciate our butter dishes anyway, isnt it?!
Give me a few moments to take a shot of it and Ill post it!
And yours is lovely and bright and happy!!
Looks like you found your "creme-de-la-creme" of butter dishes Kate.
How exciting! lol

I can't tell you how many butter dishes I've been through in my household. I could blame it on my kids but, no, I'm the one to blame. I drop them, they shatter to bits. I may have to purchase that beauty of a dish :)

Magnificent! If I could find a butter dish that awesome, I would use one.

Shame on you for sending me that store link, I found furniture I could not afford, but did find a wonderful idea to redo an old piece.

Glad you shortened your list and glad to see you placed, "Have some fun" on there too.

I like your new 'maybe' bio pict! I don't know many people who actually USE a butter dish any more! :)

Perfect profile picture! Just perfect!! You are beautiful!

As for close-up photos of myself.. well, I yam what I yam. We should all be proud to present photos of ourselves and let our personalities shine through.

Oh I can't blame you for getting that butter dish. I might have too... if I bought butter more than once a year...

Love the new shot of you. :)

I love your new photo...yep, I think it's the one. :-) And you are a sneaky one... I wondered where some of my new readers were coming from as I was getting new comments on the baby birds, checked a few friend's blogs, and voila, it's YOU. :) Thanks for the compliment, you're a sweetheart... I'm blushing.

As for Anthropologie, WATCH OUT. That store is THE most addictive store. My sister has bought their clothes for years and I swear she keeps the company in business. She sent me a very beautiful sweater and pencil skirt from Anthro that I could wear to job interviews. Her and I both adore their Capri Blue Volcano candle -- it's well worth the price as it lasts forever and it will make your house smell divine. I am really loving that butter dish you found... so, did you get it??

Glad you got lots done this weekend. I think we are birds of a feather because I did too and I have the severekt aching back to show for it. (I did sneak about 10 mins on my glider tonight, and saw some flycatcher scissortails in that short amount of time!)

Love the butter dish! I have a butter dish, but I live in a houseful of guys and butter would never stay in the dish.
We don't have an Antropologie store, so I browse their website instead:)

I like your new pic, and I like the one you use now too...so I'm no help.
Off to look at the blogs you recommended-

Love the self-portrait and love, love LOVE that butter dish! I don't even need a butter dish but you've made me want to have one. That one. Only that one.

Because Kate photographed it and wrapped it in words that make it sound like so much more than a mere butter dish...

Anthropologie sells butter dishes? Who knew.

p.s. They may want to hire you before Isabella does..

Oh my goodness, yes, I think you really can fall in love with a butter dish, I LOVE that little sweet dish you found!! Probably wouldn't match anything in my kitchen but that would make me love it even more!!! Lucky girl, now I'm going to be on the look out for a butter dish, wonder if they have those in Norway? I know they have cheese plates with covers...hmmmm...
Your photo is cute...and it suits you with the camera and the smile :-))
Have a super day!

Hi Kate:
What a wonderful butter dish...and I like your photo, too! I always think we're cutest when we're photographed reacting to a loved one. (Remember the photo shoot in Somewhere In Time, when Elise looked over the photographer's shoulder and smiled at Richard? sigh)
Have a great week, my friend.

I adore Anthropologie! What a super-duper find!

Dear Kate ...you may have started a new blog topic for I think I will just have to take a picture of my butter dish and post it too because I love it so much and because it was a gift from my sister many years ago...I am so afraid of breaking it tho...that is the downside...

I do love your new self portrait...somehow you managed to capture a "candid" shot while actually shooting it:)

Diane said...

That's an awesome butter dish. Mine is dead boring compared to that one! It's only positive attribute is that it's non breakable. Hardly a ringing endorsement!

Never heard of that store, but then again, couldn't tell you the last time I stepped into a mall.

Great butter dish. I have a couple of the old pyrex ones.

I always end up buying something...and never clothing.

And I LOVE that photo of you, winter or not.

Can "I" love a butter dish?

Sadly, no. At least, I'm pretty sure I can't.

But I wholeheartedly support the right of any responsible adult to love butter dishes if they so desire.

And I will admit the one you love is very cute and colourful.

I wish you two a long, happy life together. :)

Ah, your blog is dangerous as well as lovely. Now I'm lusting after that butter dish. The colors! I love Anthropologie. I'm planning to mix in some of their funky drawer pulls for my kitchen reno. (And what a great self-portrait!)

That is the most lovely butter dish - thinking that I might need to swing by our Anthropologie here in Dallas. You are right, you get sucked in when you get there and they get you with that GORGEOUS smelling Volcano Candle - cannot leave without picking up a new one. Love all the new colors they are available in!

I always have a butter dish out and one the sits upside down into a little cup of water so that you can leave it on the counter and it won't spoil! But this butter dish is beautiful! I will have to go look! PS love your new meme photo!

I'm jumping on board here - I do LOVE that dish! Yellow and blue are my favorite colors! My hubby will never understand my dish love--He just doesn't get it!
Wish we had an Anthropologie store here and an Ikea - We just aren't cosmopolitan enough here! V.
