From the heart

The weather was scrumptious here in Maryland today. Low humidity, blue skies, a little bit of a chill in the air . . .

. . . and the wild roses are in bloom.

I wish I could bottle this and send it to you. Or have a scratch ‘n sniff blog.

The scent of wild roses is absolutely intoxicating.

Blackie appeared out of nowhere while I was walking the trail today and began walking in front of me.

She stayed on the trail all the way to the barn and then disappeared into the brush.

I stopped to take a couple photos of my husband’s beautiful garden.

Maybe we’ll have some snap peas soon. We’ve already had plenty of tasty lettuces.

I want to say that George is outstanding in his field.

But it looks like he’s lying in it instead.

* groan *

I also want to say that all of the photos in today’s post are SOOC (straight out of camera). It’s just that kinda day, I guess.

And just one more thing before I go.  When I’m 88, I wanna be like Betty White. Out partying with the crew from SNL ‘til 3 AM and then still being able to catch my 6:30 AM flight home. She’s one helluva woman.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

I love the roses...they are rosa rugosa, aren't they.....like the ones that grow on the coast of maine???
It is going to be 20 degrees here in NY tonight.....so glad there are no roses in sight.
I can see you being like BW at 88....not a problem.

They may be untouched but they are influenced by your choices and that is what what makes them beautiful

She is and I love her love for animals too! I LOVE these photo's just as they are, it's real to me! I feel like I was with you on that walk...I love the smell of wild roses too..it's my favorite, especially on a warm day, then they really put off a sweet smell. Come say hi :D

I love wild roses....I have a white on that has only started blossoming last year. I waited a long time for it to blossom!
The dunes along the beaches in Portland and south are covered with wild roses, white and pink. As you walk along the cliffs and dunes, the fragrance is incredible. It's one of our favorite walking trails here.

I have the Betty White episode dvr'd and still haven't had a chance to watch it. She has more energy than me.

Gorgeous photos!

These pics are so pretty, they don't need editing! ;0) I love Blackie. George isn't bad either. And when I am 88 I want to hang with you at that rockin' party you will be throwing!

Love the wild roses! I got a bouquet of them picked fresh from the back yard from my daughter.

My daughter, coincidentally, watched that SNL and said, "some old woman" was hosting it.

Love that old woman, she's hilarious and so full of life.

Betty White was surprisingly amazing on SNL.

And sometimes a straight-out-of-the-camera day is a good thing. Natural, simple, untouched. Kind of the way I think it should be sometimes :)

George - you don't have to take that lying down. Oh, wait. Guess you do.

P.S. - I hope to party like Betty White when I am 58 - are you kidding?

The garden looks great! And I like the black cat walking with you.

Looks like beautiful weather in your part of the world. Out here in Iowa it has been cold, wet and windy. We had to cover up flowers and plants the last two nights because of cold temps.

May 10 is still just a little early in this part of the world but warm weather is not far away.

Take care.

That Betty White rocks! Good for her in becoming so outrageously successful in her old age.

I'm envious of your nice weather, and garden. It's cold here and there's no garden : (

I haven't seen a wild rose in forever. So very beautiful!

Do you ever press flowers? My grandma did and would send them to me in the notes she would snail mail me.

I miss that. (sigh)

I was just wishing today for my roses to start blooming, still a ways off up here in NY. Great to see your photos, if you could come up with the scratch and sniff thing I bet you could make a lot of money...maybe virtual smell or something?
Here's to hoping we're all like Betty White when we are that age! I'm sure we'll still be blogging about it...

Well, I think you're a heckovawoman already! :)

Are wild roses the same as primroses? We had those in Texas growing up - usually pink and very fragrant.

Frost waring here tonight - too cold to even think about a garden. Beautiful photos.

Heck, I just want to live to 88 and know what Saturday Night Live is!! She's amazing and so are your photos. The garden looks great..
Roses are here too. Love em.

Well CG, I think I can safely say that I just hope to BE 88 one day...will I see it?...dunno.

But this I do know. I hope for many more years smelling our wild roses (they bloom here in June). And I hope for many more years of homegrown veggies - nourishing food from our own soil. And I hope for long life with my *outstanding* dawg, Isla, and perhaps...a few more after her... sigh.

Is it this spring weather that urges us to wax on so???

Love Betty White, have seen a few glimpses of her SNL appearances- LOVE her...so funny and she is a HUGE animal lover- another great reason to love her!
Gosh I'm so ready for it to be as green here as it is with you...maybe when the fog lifts I'll see green??? Heres hoping....

We taped that SNL and enjoyed her so much! What a lady.

Your roses are lovely Kate.

She's one of my favorite people. I still watch Golden Girl episodes, loved that group.

Wild roses are my favorite flower... need to plant some at This old house, there aren't any.

I love wild roses. We don't have warm enough weather yet for those but it seems to be coming slowly. Yes I adore Betty Whiter. I still watch Golden Girls reruns.

I *heart* the smell of roses. One scent along with lilac that I can't stand trying to be recreated in a candle or spray. There is no way to bottle that!
Betty White was amazing on SNL. No pauses, not slow on the uptake at all. I now have the urge to make a batch of muffins! Better make sure they have a cherry!

SOOC looks pretty darn good to me! Our wild roses usually bloom around June 1st, but I'm thinking they may be earlier this year...

And yes, I'd love to be like Betty White. :)

Great shots! I am jealous as it has not been warm enough to plant anything around here! Hope that we can this weekend.

You're right about the wild roses. Beautiful AND intoxicating.

You've got an awfully good looking trail guide ;-)

Love the photo of George. I love his markings; they are very different than my three BC's markings.

Lovely pics of the roses! Mine have started to bloom, but I haven't gotten any pics yet. I did get some pics of a native wildflower, Scarlet Indian Paintbrush over the weekend:

hmm I think that SOOTCS shots are just as beautiful! You almost have to have a "masters" in photo shop to understand it! Anyway, the pics are very nice because they are straight out of the camera!♠

Betty White rocks for sure.. What a gal........My life long friend of 65 years (from first grade) lost her husband this morning, he had a major stroke Nov of '07 and she has taken care of him since. Now he is with their daughter in heaven who died in '06 of cancer. She was 37....Stan was 69.. They live in Anchorage so cannot just hug her, but her fav flower is the wild rose, and here was your post.

Betty White is indeed quite amazing!!

Our pink wild roses are blooming, and boy oh boy do they smell delicious!

Beautiful photos as always Kate, even when they are SOOC. :-)
