I spy something blue

Today I managed to walk the entire perimeter of the property on which we live. It took two separate walks and I was exhausted after each, but exhilarated at the same time.

To think I used to run up the stairs, quickly change into pajamas, wash my face and brush my teeth and be back before the commercials were over, well it just astounds me at this point. But I can feel it coming. I hope to be back to my work before the week is out.

DSC_0259 copy 2

This afternoon, while walking with me, my husband told me to look to my right because there would be a nice surprise. Just seeing a bit of blue sky made me stop and smile!

DSC_0254 copy 2I’ve been bundling up because of the chill and the damp and my husband snapped pictures of me while I wasn’t looking. I’m putting one of them here for two reasons. One, because my jacket is blue and the other because this is who I am. I don’t post many photos of myself because I’m not into it and of course, I always think I look bad. But in this, I’m almost smiling and I have some color to my cheeks. So those of you who know me in real life, you can see that I’m still here. I miss you at work. I miss visiting and laughing with you. Happy Birthday, Margie!!

To all my readers in the blogosphere, I want to tell you that when I began this blog, I imagined a place where people could come as they sipped their morning coffee or tea, or after a long day, and just feel at peace. And according to so many of your wonderful comments, I realize that I have done what I intended to do. And that’s wonderful to know!

~ ~ ~ @ ~ ~ ~ @ ~ ~ ~ @ ~ ~ ~ @ ~ ~ ~ @ ~ ~ ~ @ ~ ~ ~ @ ~ ~ ~ @

And now I have a burning desire to find out the answers to some questions.

  1. What was the last thing you baked?
  2. What was the last thing you tried on for size?
  3. What was the last thing you purchased on credit?
  4. What was the last thing you purchased with cash?
  5. What was the last thing you took a photo of?

See you in the comments, my friends . . .

Ugh. I already messed up. Here goes again:

What was the last thing you baked?
This is difficult, because we don't use the oven in the summer. It would have to be an apple crumb pie I made last spring.

What was the last thing you tried on for size?
A pair of pants that did not fit. Actually, it was six pairs of pants and it wasn't a good fitting day at all!

What was the last thing you purchased on credit?
A beautiful little rug from a blogging pal, Hilary, at Crazy as a Loom.

What was the last thing you purchased with cash?
I rarely use cash, so it was probably a toll.

What was the last thing you took a photo of?
That's easy because it was today. And it was George. The Weekly Dose of George (and it's on my other blog).

1. A Texas sheet cake for my husbands poker game. I'm always baking something (hence my waistline!)

2. On Friday, I actually tried on and purchased two pairs of shoes. A very rare thing for me to do, but very necessary.

3. Maybe a shirt or something at Nordstrom Rack (that is the only credit card I have and RARELY use)

4. I typically only use a debit card, but recently had real, hard cold cash, so I bought some popcorn at the movies, for my boys.

Glad to see you're "out and about" and feeling better!

Glad you are starting to feel better - nice to see you tonight :)

1. I bake a couple loaves of a buttermilk yeast bread I am perfecting. It's not there yet, but the testing part ain't half bad.

2. I can't remember, but I bet it didn't fit >:(

3, a new DVD player to replace the one that just died. I put a lot of stuff on that card though - and pay it off nearly every month. It's an Amazon reward card - yay for reward cards!

4. Rarely use cash either, but we went to the big Farmer's Market nearby on Saturday. Before we left, I asked Larry if he had any cash on him, cause I never do. At the third stall he just held his wallet open and told me to take what I wanted. So, I took it all. :) The last thing I bought that day, with cash not my own, was some amazing andouille and chorizo sausage from a local Charcuterie, who raises their pigs free range and hand crafts their unbelievable products. Then I went to the ATM machine.

5. It was while I was making dinner - I looked out the window and the light on this one tree was not something I could possibly pass up. I did remember to turn off the burners. This time ;)

Don't you love how my answers to these little get to know you gatherings are always longer than your original post?

1. Cookie bars for my Sadie's date. I didn't ask him out creatively (it's a must in Utah), so I decided to make them to say "Thank You For Saying YES!!!" instead. :D They kind of failed (not my fault, mom took them out too early) so I'll be doing it again tomorrow.

2. A dress for Preference, that is a PERFECT fit everywhere but in length. Thank goodness one of my other "moms" and best friends is a seamstress. Sleepover time!

3. I've never purchased on credit.

4. Cash? Oh, geez. I think tickets to the other Sadie Hawkins dance I went to in September. That was a blast.

5. My best friend! I took him to the Sadie's that was mentioned in number 4 above. Lol. I go to a lot of dances lately.

SO glad you're back! Feel better! <3 and (((HUGS)))

First of all, you haven't baked since last Spring? Really? Wow! LOL!

Kate, I'm so glad you are feeling better. I hate to hear of anyone in such pain and seeing my mom lately makes me only imagine what you must have been going through. Glad you are on the other side of it. Hopefully my mom will be too : (

* I made cupcakes last night! The girls needed breakfast this morning. LOL!

* A bra. I tried on a bra. Wonder of all wonders, it fit.

* Credit. Oh how I HATE creditcards. Usually the only things we charge are the vet visits (cha-ching!) or having a car worked on so that would be my guess, but it's been a while (thank goodness).

* Cash ... hmmm. I think it was at Walmart, but I can't remember. I'm all about Debit cards.

* I photographed a bird at the peanut feeder with hail coming down around it, yesterday afternoon.

Rest up dear friend : )

1. Well I havent baked in so long I cant remember but I toasted sourdough bread last nite

Glad to hear that you are improving Kate - I loved the photo, I feel I know you a little better now. Here are the answers to your questions:-
1. A fruit cake - to welcome Rachel and her family (blog More about the Song) who popped in this morning on their way home.
2. Trousers - always a problem as my waist is much too small in proportion with my hips (interpreted this means "my bum does look big in this."
3.Jacket - living out in the sticks as we do, it is easier to buy clothes with my credit card.
4. Food - isn't it always food that takes the cash?
5. A dear little skewbald wild foal I came across on the moor. He is on my blog if you want to look at him - he is a curious little chap.

Hope your health gets better by the day.

Kate - that is a spectacular picture of you! Your cheekbones, the smile, it's all fabulous. A+ for hubby's photography skillz, really. This is a great picture.

My brain can't think of all the answers but I'll answer the one about paying cash. Although I hardly use cash at all (debit is easier for me because then I don't see any money changing hands), this evening I gave my last $20 in cash to a dear friend who doesn't get paid until Wednesday night and is flat broke. He needed it for gas money and for lunch tomorrow.

Realizing how far he intended to stretch that $20, I packed a lunch for him and sent him out of here with a full bag and a little extra wiggle room with that $20.

Knowing he'd do the same for me is priceless.

So thankful that you are feeling better. Pray eveyday is better than the day before!

Last thing I baked? Well, I roasted a chicken, does that count?

Last thing I tried on? A pair of Skecher slip-ons.

Last thing I bought on credit? Those Skecher slip-ons!!!!

Last think I purchased with cash? Cough drops and chicken noodle soup from a drugstore.

Last thing I took a photo of? My husband has my camera...he's out of state on a job and has been for months...cannot remember the last thing I took a picture of. Does that cause some of you to shutter, excuse the pun!!!!

Hi, I'm probably a bit late on this - I've been stressed out over nothing really when you put it into context - but for me it was a big deal. The good thing is that my step daughter is visiting from France and we are having a lovely time. Sor for the questions:
1) Baked a shortbread plum cake (delicious).
2) Tried on for size - a warm fleeze jacket which fit perfectly and...
3) bought it on credit (because I get points using the card).
4) Cash - a lovely bottle of wine to have with tonight's lamb ragout.
5) Pictures of a really cute Halloween decor next door to our local library which I will photoshop to make a collage with some gloriously coloured leafs.

What was the last thing you baked?

** Brownies for the staff at the chiropractor's office

What was the last thing you tried on for size?

** A skirt I have had for a few years. I am hoping to get back into it soon.

What was the last thing you purchased on credit?

** It's been a long time. I am trying to pay off the debt so I am not using credit.

(Doing this in my iPhone and I messed up...)
Cash?

** Starbucks. Though I use their gift card to get free wifi, it is paid for with cash. Actual dollars & coins? Produce last week.
