Sittin’ on the dock of the bay

Well, on a dock by a canal, actually.

After our brief excursion to Chesapeake City yesterday, we drove east and then came back along the canal roads, stopping here to take in the view.

This is the Summit Bridge, the next bridge to the east of the Chesapeake City Bridge.

And I like this view, as well. (Hey, I must be feeling much better).

It was wonderful here in the sunshine on a beautiful October day. In the very center of the photo, you can see the Chesapeake City Bridge in the distance. And just to the right of it, we see what looks to be a tug pulling a barge.

It’s the Path Finder, a tugboat out of Chesapeake City. These little boats always surprise me with their immense strength.

It’s pulling the Chesapeake, a barge based in Philadelphia. I only know this because I read the writing on the sides and the back.

I am beginning to get my strength back and am so glad of it, although I wasn’t able to return to work this week as I’d hoped. I miss my work, my friends and co-workers, the children.

For now, Survivor is on (my husband’s favorite show) and it’s a good one tonight. The good Russell was removed from the game due to health issues and that rotten little monster (the bad Russell) remains in the game. He is a feisty little shit guy.

My first movie came today in the mail! My friend, Dlyn, sent me a coupon for a free month of Netflix and I signed on. This afternoon, I watched I Love You, Man. Was not impressed. I really thought it would be funny, although I did laugh out loud two or three times. I have better ones coming from my list, though although I’d love to hear your suggestions on a good movie to rent.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Great photos, as always!

So glad you are feeling better and stronger.

Wow, those canals are BIG! Here we have rivers smaller than that, but that are still serviced in a couple areas by ferries instead of bridges. Kinda crazy, IMHO, but the ferries ARE a unique feature for out-of-town company.

So glad you are feeling better! I'm sure your diligence in getting out and walking whether you feel up to it or not is contributing greatly.

If you like to laugh:
Shaun of the Dead
Snatch
Ghost Town
New In Town
The Burbs
Local Hero

So glad you are feeling better. :) Have a great weekend!

Ghost Town from the previous comment is definitely good. I like Cinema Paradiso, which is Italian with sub-titles. It's so full of wonder in the aftermath of WWII, I bought a copy for myself after I rented it from Netflix. Photos are wonderful as always.

Do you like Will Smith? Or Jack Nichelson? (might have spelled his name wrong. Great movies if you haven't already seen them: Happyness, 7 pounds, Bucket List, As good as it Gets..and for some really good scenery.. I always return to Legends of The Fall.

So glad you are feeling better and could get out with your two best people.

In one of those photos (I think it's the second but can't click back to see) the lines in your husband's shirt mirrored the lines in the dock and the shadow lines going straight down the dock. I fixate on lines and shapes for some reason, but any way it was a great shot even beyond the obvious reasons.

Glad you are up and about. I hope your recovery continues.

I watched The Proposal today with my mom - it was cute and funny and not offensive.

Love the pics.

Hi Kate!! Glad to read you're feeling better, this is wonderful news! I'm amazed by those little boats also. I'm not sure if a tug boat and a pilot boat are the same thing but Stig tells me about the little pilot boats that come out to meet the big boats and bring them safely into the docks..never crossed my mind those big boats would need a little boat to enter a dock safely until he said that!
Have a great weekend!!

Love looking through other people's movie picks... Happyness was an amazing movie. (All the more so cause it was based on a true story I think - gave me goosebumps).

Nice shots of the peaceful canals there - I have something a little less calming at my place today... come on over if you can handle something pre-historic!!

Yes, I can see why you like that photo of your Man. LOL. One of my friends here at work tells me all the time to take pics of my hubby. She's more interested in the view from behind.....

You need to talk to ToonMan, he is a super NetFlix'er and had reviewed a gazillion movies for them, seriously.

I am SO happy you are feeling better ... but remember: rest is important!

Oh ToonMan and Mary would like one another Shaun, Snatch, Local Hero are high on his list... also Lock, Stock and something (Guy Ritchie movie)

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Looks like a nice outing.. great photos.

So.. I don't watch Survivor but I remember you mentioning in the past how your husband refers to the other reality shows as the Dancing Survivor and the Singing Survivor... etc. Are there really two Russells, or are all the participants named Russell just like all the other shows are called Survivor?

I'm teasing mostly.. but it just struck me as possible. ;)

You must be feeling better...taking photos once again. Isn't that the best medicine?

Trust that smiling dog to get in on the picture! I know what you mean about tug boats - I always wonder where they get their strength from. Take care and get all your strength back before going back to work. Have a restful weekend.

Hi Kate,
I have been checking into your site for about a month now and I am lovin' it.
You have the most beautiful pictures. I am not a photographer myself, though I would love to be.
However, I do have a couple of friends that are.
One actually uses the Nikon you do, or similar.
I am going to share your blogsite because I think she would love it.
Started Netflix a while back. I watched 'Bella' and loved it. Somehow, I think you might also.
Grace and Peace, Eva

Hi Kate!
I've been reading your blog for a little while now, and have been going through a bit of a difficult time, so it has really helped me remember what is important. This has truly been a calming place to come and visit - so thank you for sharing.
I also have to say that I am completely IN LOVE with George! What an amazing dog :)

Julie/Julia (or do I have that backwards?)

Of course, the original The In-Laws with Peter Falk is always good for a laugh.

Glad to see that you're feeling better. It always makes me feel better to get out of the house. And it looks as though the weather was beautiful. Great pictures, as always.

As for movies, quite a few mentioned Ghost Town. It really was funny.

Yea! Kate's out and about and feeling better!!!! I've been down and out for a week with 'hay fever' so it's been an outing for me to take these little daily excursions with you and the family!

I think you ought to compile and publish a coffee table book of the pictures of your DH titled
'Rear-ended' or 'In the Arears!
I know he doesn't want his face on the blog and I don't blame him, but pictures of his backside are now expected and I think would make for a delightful book.(Hope this isn't getting tooooo personal).

Have a glorious weekend, Jeanne

Sorry "Golden West" but I think she's got it right. The only "your" I see (in the last sentence, unless of course there is another that I missed) is "...I'd love to hear your suggestions..." is correct. If you substitute "I'd love to hear "you are" suggestions... (which is what you're means), it just doesn't SOUND right. That's the only way I have been ever able to distinguish between the two, by substituting.
