I didn’t get a whole lot accomplished this weekend but I’m going to look at it this way: Sometimes you don’t have to get a whole lot done just to feel good about yourself. Right?
I did get the car situation taken care of, but unfortunately they found a couple of new issues with the Element that need to be addressed soon. Luckily, they won’t cost a fortune. I actually have a lot of Christmas shopping done. Easy to say when you’re hardly buying gifts, but still – it makes me feel better. My husband and I have agreed that we’re not exchanging gifts this year but experience has taught me that he will not honor this agreement. Plus he has that memory issue . . .
I got absolutely no cleaning done but honestly, the place is not that dirty. And the only people seeing it are us. We’re fine with it as it is. For me, it’s too early to decorate for the holidays, so I’m leaving that until next weekend.
Saturday afternoon, I sat outside in the absolutely gorgeous sunshine. Played a little frisbee with George, too. Did something to my knees but hell, it doesn’t take much to mess them up these days. Stupid knees. At least I can still walk.
There are a few straggler leaves clinging to the branches, and I like how they look.
After I got settled by the dogwood tree, the birds began coming back. I can always hear the chickadees before I see them because for such a little bird, they are so very noisy.
But they’re awfully cute.
And being in the sunshine was absolutely scrumptious.
The cat was chasing her tail . . .
. . . and the dog was happy because someone was playing frisbee with him.
And I still love squiggles.
And dreamy bokeh.
bokeh is the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light." ~Wikipedia
And the bare branches of trees.
I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape. Something waits beneath it; the whole story doesn't show.
~ Andrew Wyeth
I’ve found that I prefer winter and fall too.
Takes all kinds, doesn’t it?
Heard this tune on the Zales commercial yesterday and decided it’s pretty cool.
If it wasn't for you, don't know what I'd do.
I'd have nothing to prove, I've got nothing to lose
I'd be all lost at sea, with no reason to make it through.
If it wasn't for you.

Hope your weekend has been a good one. I’m making one of my husband’s favorites for dinner tonight because I’ve decided it’s about time I actually cooked something. It’s an easy one, too: Bangers & Mash. Yum.
Until tomorrow, my friends ~

Beautiful images, as always. That little chickadee looking at you is just too darling.
"I’m making one of my husband’s favorites for dinner tonight..."
You have more than one husband? No wonder you feel you're not getting a whole lot accomplished. ;)
It has been raining here since Wednesday, with a few breaks to get out and enjoy the fresh air. But today is raining buckets and won't stop until midnight. We just put up our fairly small tree and now I have to find the decorations. Or maybe I'll just leave it plain. LOL
Enjoy your dinner.
Oh we love bangers and mash ! Wonderful post and photos. There's more to life then cleaning isn't there ? Like photography and playing with your pup or cooking a nice but quick yummy meal for your hubby or vise versa, Sounds perfect to me ! Loved the quote so true . Have a good evening !
Beautiful images, thanks so much for sharing them with us all. Have a great week!
It sounds to me as if you accomplished a LOT this weekend. Sitting in the sunshine, finding beauty in bare branches, communing with birds, playing with George, and planning dinner DO count. Things like this recharge you to face whatever you have coming your way this week. (BTW, my kitchen window post is up. Yours looks like a beautiful poster!)
It sounds like an idyllic afternoon, Kate! I like the Wyeth quote, though I also like spring when those "bare bones" begin to cover up with beauty.
Wishing you a good week!
I REALLY love that quote... the one about the bones of the landscape. It's calendar worthy! Do hope your 2012 copies arrived soon, dear Kate.
:-)

PS Anyone ever tell you, you take awesome pics?
We don't always have to "accomplish" a lot, do we? I did do a little more shopping & did decorate for Christmas. Trying to get into the "spirit". :) Have a great week, Kate.
Bangers and mash sounds perfect for dinner, we're having nachos! Sorry about your knees...dang it! And thanks for the beautiful images!

You know I love any post with Blackie making an appearance. But, I have something else in common with this post. Yesterday, while visiting Niagara Falls, a chickadee landed in my hand to eat some cracker crumbs! I nearly fainted right then & there. Such a wonderful moment.
so happy you had a good week end...of sorts...
and thank you so much for the great music I heard it the other day and forgot to look for it!!!
...and the thought of Bangers and Mash...what kind of Bangers do you use if I may ask...I miss English sausages very much!!!
have a great week Kate...hope the sun shines on you...and them!!
Cute song. We don't watch regular TV so I don't see commercials. The song was great and I'll be downloading it soon... :-))

My hubby and I are avid bird watchers. We have bird feeders everywhere and have tons of different birds, but I can't for the life of me, get nuthatches. We feed Black Oil Sunflower seeds. I will hear one occasionally but I don't ever see the. New to you blog. Love the pictures. Thanks for sharing.
I love those perky little chickadees. I hope some come to visit us here in our new prairie home and sit still long enough for me to get a photo.
Whenever I see lovely squiggles, bare branches and beautiful bokeh I think of you Kate. xo
I love the chickadees song, they are so stinking cute! I think it sounds like you had your priorities set just right this weekend.
We had awesome weather here this weekend too. The Hubby decorated the new landscape in the backyard in preparation of our huge Christmas party next weekend and I concentrated on trying to get the house in ship-shape order and finish the decorating inside. My knee is still mending though from the surgery and it was slow going but better. The evening was so awesome that we dined on the new patio and admired his beautiful handiwork. In December...imagine.
We don't buy for each other either, at least we say that, because we spend so much on the house every year.
Ah, the Chickadees were out in full force here this weekend! You got some lovely shots!
and LOVE your dreamy Dark-eyed Junco! I've been seeing a lot of those too - and normally that means winter on the way ..... not looking forward to that.
Give George a scratch for me, will ya?
I love that quote by Andrew Wyeth! Exactly like his artwork too!! There is such feeling and depth in his work...
Sounds like a perfect weekend to me. Well, except for the car part. xoxo
Sounds like you had a lovely weekend! I have been so friggen busy I can't see straight. It's nice to come here and just breathe. Have a great week!!! xo
Absolutely gorgeous images - love the chickadee and George looks spectacular (as always). Looks and sounds to me like you were plenty productive this weekend! Have a wonderful week. ~chris
fun shots ... Toonman and I are not exchanging gifts again this year ... thanks for a good idea for a blog post...
I thought I was over getting sore from riding, but my legs hurt so bad yesterday.
Hope your knees are better.
the bokeh in your photos is always amazing !!....
and honestly, you are the bird whisperer. you know that don't you :)
that quote by andrew is PERFECT !!
and now i need to hear the song you included !!
xo
Yes, I too think that you are the bird whisperer!
I can understand what your talking about concerning your husband. My husband has cognitive issues caused by his Multiple Sclerosis.
Your photographs are just lovely.
Sitting in the sunshine sounds like something to do to me.

Hasn't the weather the past couple of days been delightful! Looks like you (and birds, cat, and dog) took good advantage of it:)
I am thinking that the only gift Mr O and I will give to each other this year will be a getaway during the winter...still haven't decided where too though.
The beautiful bird on the limb with the bokeh---it's exquisite!
