It’s that time of year to break out the films that get you in the mood for the holidays. Thanks to all who answered my question last week when I asked readers to list their favorite holiday films.
Mine range from the classic to the newer contemporary films and I’ve seen several of my favorites already this season. If you haven’t seen The Family Man, I recommend it. Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni are perfect in this film about a guy who seemingly ‘has it all’ and is given a glimpse of what could have been had he made a different choice 13 years prior. It’s just not Christmas until I see it each year. I also highly recommend the Disney version of A Christmas Carol featuring Jim Carrey. The animation is beautiful in this movie, which is almost a thrill ride through the old streets of London. And The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven - a classic that my sister, Charlotte, told me about several years ago. It’s a beautiful film.
Below, in alphabetical order, are your favorite holiday films. There are several here which I’ve never seen or heard of, so I thank you for the recommendations. I’ve marked my favorites with asterisks.

I’ve been enjoying my time off from work and getting some things done around the house.
My favorite thing to do is wrapping presents.
But I have to be in the right mood.
: : :
I’ve got a thing about wrapping presents.
Until tomorrow, my friends ~

I'd say each present you wrap is a work of art!
Now I just want to watch movies.:) There is still too much on my "to do" list.:)
Peace and joy to you! Nellie
What a beautiful photo of the gift!!
That really is a gorgeous photo of the gift.
Thanks for reminding me of the Jim Carrey version of A Christmas Carol. I'll have to get that from Netflix. I'm getting The Polar Express tomorrow. I've seen it about 3 times, but I think I can see it a few more times. I also remember the Nicolas Cage movie (I think I do...I'm getting old), so I'll probably order that one too.
I love that movie with NIcolas Cage and Tea Leoni. Need to watch it this year. Hubby will be away tomorrow for a few hours so will be the perfect time to watch it. Thanks for the reminder!!
thanks for the list!! I actually just ordered Holiday Inn for my own collection (and thanks to Amazon prime, I got it right away.... seriously how did I live before it! needed Christmas lights... placed an order and never had to go to the story :) )
anyway... I digress...
Merry Christmas and happy holiday watching...
darn blogger...or something just ate my comment....arrghhhh.....
how about i just say "hello" for now until i'm no longer mad at blogger !!
If you wrap all your gifts this beautifully no one must want to open their gifts at your house...too pretty to open!
I really don't like wrapping and I always procrastinate and leave it until the last minute and have to stay up too late to do it...causing me to be tired and cranky:(
Love the list of movies...and the Bishop's Wife is a movie I haven't seen and is now on my list!
You sure are good at post presents! Aloha
There are so many Christmas films out now. I have a shelf full of DVD's. I'm also enjoying reading Christmas themed books, too.
All the best to you, Kate. Have a wonderfully peaceful Christmas. I'll be back to blogging in the new year so hopefully will catch up again then.

I love Nicholas Cage, so this movie is now on my list. Love, love, love How the Grinch Stole Christmas ... years ago, we named our Siamese kitten Cindy Lou because of this (cute little critter with HUGE blue eyes). Not so many presents to wrap this year, so I can take my time and make a show of each one ... I like that. Yours is beautiful!
you sure do... that golden gift is absolutely beautiful!
Your wrapping skills are excellent.
Mine are on par with a second grader. No patience.
You are an awesome rapper. Oh, wait....
i have a thing about it too .. i just don't do it .. i am sorry i cannot bring myself to spend $$ on paper and ribbon to see it torn, ripped to shreds .. i put my gifts in festive bags with tissue paper .. and hope the bag will be recycled/reused for someone else's gift or even to carry a sandwich to work ...
OTOH ... is that mine? last year you showed a wrapped present and it was mine!!!!! ;)
I am a Christmas movie freak lol. I have seen all of the ones you have listed and more ! It is windy and cold here today and yet still no snow . Glad you are enjoying your time off. Pretty wrapped gift all gold ! Have a wonderful day !
What a lovely list. A few new ones for me to check out, thank you.
And oh my, that present looks far to beautiful to unwrap.
xo
Being a huge Robert De Niro fan, I love the cheesy but fab 'Falling in Love'. I think it must have come out in 1985. At the time, my two flatmates and I did a kind of photo story of it with me as Robert De Niro and my friend Liz as Meryl Streep. Not something for the blog!
Wonderful, wonderful list!
I have not seen the movie, but a children's adaptation of Gian Carlo Menotti's opera, "Amahl and the Night Visitors", illustrated by Michele Lemieux, is my family's favorite book to read at Christmas. We own the 1986 hardcover edition, a splendidly illustrated and printed book, in folio size.
Great list! My favorite is "Holiday Inn" followed by "White Christmas". Merry Christmas Kate.
Hi, Family Man is my most favorite. I actually bought that one. I have already seen it a few times these past weeks on TV. I never get tired of that movie. Also, I just love "Holiday Affair" with Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh. It is an adorable holiday romance story. My Christmas is not complete unless I see that. Just saw it on AMC the other night. Also, I love this TV-made movie from the '80's called "House Without A Christmas Tree" with Jason Robards. Wonderful, heart-warming story.
lordy lordy that is some gorgeous bokeh in that gift image. I was surprised that I have actually seen 5 of the movies on that list. I just never watch movies, although when I do and if it's a good one, I just love it and vow to see more, and then somehow I forget my vow to watch more movies. xoxo
visiting from Michelle's blog :-) My boyfriend LOVES Emmett Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas...he watched it with his kids (now adults) when they were young. Having not seen it til I was an adult...LOL! But many of my favs are on your list :-) Happy New Year!
