Checking in

Apologies for my lengthy absence all week. I wanted to check in really quick before I start watching the movie I rented for tonight. I picked up a pile of mail from our box at the end of the driveway and in it, I spied the familiar Netflix red envelope. When I opened it later on, I smiled to see that it was Just Like Heaven, one of my favorite little romantic comedies. I say little because it’s light and sweet and Reese Witherspoon is in it, as well as my favorite guy, Mark Ruffalo. I didn’t know that it was next in my queue so it was a nice surprise.

I am doing well. Thank you so much for your comments and concerns, and for your support and kindness. I returned to work this Tuesday and today was the first day that I felt like everything was right. I knew where everything was and could answer questions again, I fixed things that were wrong, got an generous load of work done, and felt good. Every other day I felt like I was pretending to be ok. Maybe when you pretend enough, it becomes real, right?

But I have plans for the weekend. I am actually going on a small trip and meeting a friend in real life that I’ve known for years through blogging. I’ll tell you all about it when I get home. We both live in Maryland, but three hours away from each other. It should be good!

Sometimes when I see these fences, I think of my husband and all the work he did fixing them when we first moved here. Then he got so tired, he just couldn’t take care of them anymore. And this is one of the good sections . . .

And speaking of good ~

Between me and my son, we’ve been keeping George walked and happy playing. But I work all day, and my son works the night shift so he’s asleep much of the day which leaves George alone and lonely. So I’ve hired a dog walker, a woman I’ve known since she was just a girl. She graduated from our school with my eldest son, Matt, and came over last night to meet George and he loves her.

I am so glad.

And George is glad because a box of goodies came in the mail this week from one of my readers. I can’t believe how kind people are sometimes, and JC – we all thank you!

I snapped this coming up the driveway after running some errands last weekend with George. I’m sure he wishes he was coming with me this weekend but maybe next time, little fella.

Hope you all have a good one. Thanks for coming by ~

Yes, sometimes it just takes going through the motions until they normalize. I'm glad you have your job, your sons, your (beautifully photographed!) dog, your heavenly home place, your friends online and IRL. It sounds like a good life, even without your husband.

If you ever want to travel farther afield, you have a guest room and tour guide/chauffeur here in NW Oregon!

It's nice to hear you're finding your new normal. And I'm sure being back at work was familiar & comforting. Just Like Heaven really is such a sweet movie & MR is adorable (he is in 13 going on 30 as well and it's another light & sweet movie). Wish you a fun weekend with your friend.

I worry about George, if he understands.....I know my Roy boy has had an awful time adjusting to my mother's absence.
And yes, in Al Anon years ago, I learned.....fake it til you make it.
Or......act as if.
It works. Eventually.

Actually, pretending to be okay, really does help.

I hope you have a good weekend.

I've been wanting a dog just like him.

You're so lucky to have such a loyal, fuzzy buddy :)

I'm glad you're doing better. Your life will never be what it was, but that doesn't mean it won't be good. :-)

Hugs to you, Kate. <3 <3

George has the same gorgeous face as my "nephew" Mylo; I wish I lived closer to you so the boys could meet each other! Glad to hear George likes his new dog-walker, and she him. Give him a pat for me! :)

Bless you for being such a lovely and possitive soul. I'm sure you'll be alright and time does help, if not heal. But I guess practise makes perfect in terms of feeling alright. And then again years and years later you still have your moments (my mum).

Love your photos and it's always great to hear from you and to see lovely George!! Hope you have a nice time meeting your friend.

As I enjoyed your blog this AM the phrase "fake it till you make it" came to mind. I have the strong feeling that "you are right where you are" and to just go with that. I think that is exactly what you did this week. Love the photos. Love knowing that you are off on an adventure this weekend and what a treasure to have found your dear dog walker. Continued good wishes to you.

Kate, been thinking about you all week and hoping that your being in the 'familiar' would bring some comfort and smiles to your life. I was wondering how George was doing and so glad that you found someone you know to interact with him during the daytime. You are blessed to have so many friends who love you and who you can spend time with. Hoping you have a great time this weekend and that you find some subjects to photograph. We all love you and are here for you as you walk this path on your journey to your new normal. xoxoxo

George is so sweet and it shows how much you truly love him. You probably are just settling in to your 'new' normal, but I am sure your old routines help out with that. Excited to see/hear all about your trip when you get back! xo

I was checking my blogs, yes, some belong to me, and there you were. So, nice to know that you and George are doing well. The walker will help him and you. Great idea.

The fox photo, well, we are thrilled. Jodie Belle couldn't be the only cute dog with that toy now could she.

Enjoy your weekend and keep pretending, I do that all the time.

Huge hugs to you and pets to George,

XO,
JC and Jodie Belle and Maddy Jean

It is good to read that you are doing well Kate. I think a sure sign is when you have a good day and it really is a good day rather than a day when you are on the 'outside' looking in on yourself, if you understand what I mean.

Just like Heaven is one of my favorite movies as well. It's a feel good movie. We watched Now You see Me. A good movie, trying to figure out how they pull it off and who is behind the whole plot. Glad you had a weekend with a friend. Friends are great when you just need a listening ear or some time away. Have a good week.
