Early this morning

Early this morning, I was still asleep. I have off from work today so I slept in late, if you call 8:15 late, which is what we call it around here.

I had a goal for today and it was to clean out my chest of drawers and pack some bags to take to the local Goodwill. But before I did that, I wanted to take a walk in the freshly fallen snow we had overnight.

DSC_0347 copy 2

We got less than an inch.

DSC_0355 copy 2

I had hoped for more, but am glad for this. Also glad it’s getting a little colder. It’s been pretty difficult walking in the slush and mud and my Sorel snow boots. Now the ground is nice and crunchy again.

DSC_0349 copy 2

I saw my husband with George, filling the bird feeders.

DSC_0359 copy 2

George has his ID tied on with a twisty tie because it kept coming off. He’s so stylin’, isn’t he?

Not.

DSC_0343 copy 2

I wanted to look at these photos as soon as I got in from the walk. But I knew that if I did, I’d be on the computer fiddling with them, and then working on a post and before I knew it, it would be lunchtime. And I knew that if I didn’t force myself, I’d never get done my one goal for the day.

So I cleaned out my chest of drawers. It didn’t take nearly as long as I had anticipated, and I have several bags ready for the Goodwill.

DSC_0313 copy 2

And then I opened up my photos. And I think this is my favorite.

DSC_0318 copy 2

Or maybe this one.

Sometimes I wish I had bought the 105mm macro. And I think that someday, I may trade in the trusty 60mm that I’m using now and get that lens.

But until then, I am happy with what I have.

DSC_0335 copy 2

In the background, you can see the the pad I use for lying on the ground in the snow to take pictures. I don’t feel like getting my pants nice and wet, and this old woven beach roll-up from Two’s Company works great.

And it’s waterproof.

DSC_0332 copy 2

And more fashionable than carrying around a tarp.

And you know how fashion conscious I am when I'm walking around this property.

And now, because it’s Friday and because I really haven’t done one of these in awhile, I have some questions for you, if you care to play along. Inquiring minds, and all that.

1. What is one thing that you’re really good at doing?
2. What piece of clothing makes you feel warm and snuggly the moment you put it on?
3. Do you consider yourself to be a ‘picky-eater’?
4. How often to you exercise? And what do you do?
5. Do you use a seatbelt every time you get into a car?
I try to respond to all of your answers through my e-mail. If I’ve never responded to you, it could be because of this:

1. What is one thing that you’re really good at doing? I wish it were cooking. But I think it's taking something not so beautiful and turning it into something that is. If that makes sense.

2. What piece of clothing makes you feel warm and snuggly the moment you put it on? My fleece pants.

3. Do you consider yourself to be a ‘picky-eater’? Absolutely not.

4. How often to you exercise? And what do you do? I try to walk every single day. Emphasis on the word try.

5. Do you use a seatbelt every time you get into a car? Absolutely positively.

Ok, I'm taking time to play today since it's Friday.

1. I'm really good at impulsively spending money. The problem is, I don't usually regret it until the visa bill comes.

2. My pink fleece jacket makes me feel like I'm being cuddled by every good mother on earth, that calories don't put on weight, and there is world peace.

3. Yes, I'm a picky eater considering some of the things people eat. I do NOT like feta cheese, blue cheese, asparagus, beets, and lots of things foodies eat.

4. Exercise twice a week with a trainer. If it weren't for someone waiting for me, and me spending the $$ to go to the gym, I would not put myself through the pain of exercise. I would weigh 50 pounds more and have no strength or endurance. If I just jogged it would be easy, but the trainer makes me do unbelievable hard things.

5. Always, always use a seatbelt unless I'm driving on our country acreage - no roads, no cars, just land.

found your blog recently by way of another blog (can't remember which one). Love your pictures - I live in Central PA.

1. I'm really good at making chocolate chip cookies
2. I love my fleece jacket and sweats!
3. I'm not a picky eater, I'll eat almost anything (unfortunately)
4. I try to exercise 5-6 days a week, but don't always succeed. I love to ride bike in warm weather.
5. I always wear my seatbelt.

Nancy and Lisa, you're both coming up no-reply@blogger, which is a bummer because I love Nancy's pink jacket. And I would like one of Lisa's chocolate chip cookies.
Like now.

1. What is one thing that you’re really good at doing?
Lately, teaching the puppy things. After all I heard from my husband before we got Ajay was, "He's going to be in doggie boot camp and neither of you are going to like it." It turns out he's quite a softy, so I've been teaching Ajay "sit," "stay," and most recently, "lay down." Although, after I teach him, he still listens to my husband better.

2. What piece of clothing makes you feel warm and snuggly the moment you put it on?
My penguin pajamas

3. Do you consider yourself to be a ‘picky-eater’?
Nope, though I do draw the line somewhere.

4. How often to you exercise? And what do you do?
I don't ever do any exercise aside from what I get doing the regular chores, like shoveling the drive, hauling laundry up and down 2 flights of stairs and chasing a puppy around in the yard, but on weekends we usually do something outdoors, like hiking or in the summer kayaking/canoeing and swimming. I really should get back to at least my workout dvds.

5. Do you use a seatbelt every time you get into a car?
Usually, but I'm sure there are times I forget

Ok I'm a fairly new reader so I'll play along!

1. I'm really good at making decadent desserts. At all family gatherings I am the dessert maker!

2. I have a fleece pull over that is so soft and cuddly, I love it!

3. Unfortunately not...I'll eat anything that doesn't eat me first!

4. I walk on my treadmill for 30 minutes at least 3 times a week or outside when the weather permits and I also do the Wii Fit and Wii Sports occasionally.

5. I absolutely always wear a seatbelt in a car. I feel naked if I don't put it on!

1. The things I do best: cooking. I love to experiment with food. Creating in the kitchen brings me JOY.

2. My UGG slippers make me feel warm and cozy the minute I put them on.

3. I am not a picky eater. I draw the line on salt codfish, which my husband eats for breakfast.

4. I hate to admit it but I am not much on exercise. I do walk but not on a regular basis. Maybe this is why my bottom is looking pretty bad.

5. Always wear a seatbelt and here in Texas, everyone must wear seatbelts, even backseaters (new law this year)

This was fun.

1. I'd have to say that it would probably be being able to see something from nothing. Like making old fence boards into a shelf, taking a prom dress and cutting it up to embellish a show shirt.

2. my big old brown sweat shirt

3. no, not picky - just have stuff I don't or won't eat

4. I consider the horses my excercise and ride as much as possible. I will also sit in the floor and stretch at night watching TV.

5. Yes, abosolute always wear the seatbeat and if you ride with me so will you.

1) Riding horses.

2) My oversized polarfleece jacket.

3) NO. My mom made me eat everything (vegetarian) on my plate, and you know what; now I CAN eat pretty much anything!

4) Not enough; walk and jog outside or on the treadmill. Well, I DO try to put energy into morning chores and they DO take nearly an hour; does that count?

5) YES!

5. Yes for sure. And if you ride with me, passengers and to belt up as well :) Only because I care :)

You are so fun Kate! I love your pics today. George is such a handsome dude!! And your snowy pics make me almost happy it's winter .... almost. I'm quite ready for Spring!

1. I'm very good at wasting time and also helping new bloggers get things set up.

2. Any pair of sweat pants, even if they have paint stains on them from an old house project.

3. There are a few foods I don't like but no, I don't think I'm a picky eater.

4. I NEVER exercise this time of the year. Oh to have springtime arrive so I can once again walk.

5. I have been wearing a seatbelt every time I get into a car since the mid 1980's when a girlfriend was injured in an accident while NOT wearing her seatbelt. Buckling up is just the smart thing to do.

Enjoy your day! No snow on the ground here at all.

We didn't get any sticking snow here either. Just a brief flurry this morning. School was on time and we were hoping to sleep in a pinch.

The one thing I am good at is art ideas and I have a long list, but not enough time to complete half of them. One artist said every day she adds new ideas to her art vault and she realizes some might never come out again.

My wool sweaters are my favorite comfy thing in the winter because you are cozy no matter what--unless you fall in the creek.

Exercising -are we talking about the mind or the body? Just kidding. We have sheep so I'm running around with them and our fun loving westie dog. By the way, your collie is precious too.

Have a great weekend,
Candylei

I recently had a big sort out and managed to take three black bags of things to goodwill, it's very cathartic.

Love the pics you took. We seem to have got off lightly with the snow. It tried snowing today but the sun was out and it didn't stick.

As for the questions . . . .

. What is one thing that you’re really good at doing?
Being a pessimist. :0)

2. What piece of clothing makes you feel warm and snuggly the moment you put it on?
My pjamas, aside from jeans they're my favorite piece of clothing.

3. Do you consider yourself to be a ‘picky-eater’?
Yes, I have an onion allergy so it can make life a little tricky as there seems to be onions in so many things . . . but there's also a long list of things that I don't like to eat.

4. How often to you exercise? And what do you do?
Exercise, what's that. Last summer I bought a new bike and enjoyed riding after not being on one for about 10 years. Now that it's winter I'm not doing much of anything.

5. Do you use a seatbelt every time you get into a car?
Always.

Very good at procrastinating. But ok at reading, playing tennis, sudoku, like taking photos, and helping people. Of course I also enjoy looking after my grandchildren, whether my kids think I am any good at it, remains to be seen!

Cosy...ugh...nice to be cool here at the moment, but yes in winter I like my cosy pjs and a nice warm jacket I bought to go to NYC last time. Looking forward to using it again very soon! ;-) Socks are always comforting too when it is really cold.

Not really very picky. Draw the line at some things like oysters and calamari etc though. Sorry, I know others rave about them.

Exercising all the time in this big place with too many things to do...been out puling weeds from around the pool, try to go for a walk every day, when it cools down just before dark. Play tennis twice a week when it is not holiday time. Wish I didn't eat so much, then I might lose some weight!

Always wear a seat belt. Always been the law in Australia since wearing seat belts came in.

Hmmmm....let's see.

1) Really good at making brownies
2) Crawling into fleece sheets (does that count?)
3) I don't consider myself a picky eater - I just prefer to eat not a lot of meat
4) Walking Doogie is my exercise most days
5) Yes! Most definitely!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

What amazing and beautiful pictures - of the snow and your dog!

Mmm.. some answers:

I'm good at writing and burning food.
2. My winter jacket! Oh, and my dressing gown (sometimes at the same time!)
3. No - but others do because I'm vegetarian.
4. Every day. Have dog. Must walk.
5. Of course!

1. Cooking, kissing (lips, temples, AND foreheads!), and empathizing.

2. My brown velour robe with the maribou collar and sleeve trim--a wedding present that makes me feel like a starlet. At night, I wrap my husband around me like a snoring thermal blanket.

3. I believe anything can be made to taste good. In fact, Izzy57 mentioned not eating Brussels sprouts or blue cheese and I immediately thought, "I wonder if they would taste good together?"

4. When I am on a roll, I work out every day. I do Zumba, yoga, and belly dancing, as well as lift weights. Currently not on a roll.

5. I am indignantly adamant about seat belt use, and I tell anyone with children that they gave up the right to choose not to wear a seat belt when their first child was conceived.

First of all let me say, crunchy snow is better then sloppy snow. And that you're fashion concious while walking around your property is a hoot! And George is just gorgeous, never tire of seeing his sweet face in your photos. Now to the questions:
1. I guess if I have to pick one thing, I'm good at making people laugh..
2. I have a big ol' wool sweater like 2 or 3 times too big for me that I ADORE..but it's so ugly so I use it around the house or when I just don't care who sees me at the store..
3. Well, I don't really...but I have tried things I just don't like, such as pinto beans and various other nasty beans..love green beans and yellow beans and some peas are ok..but all those dry beans like kidney and such- YUCK. I also can't stand tamales..had those once and I'd have to have nothing else to eat ever in order to eat those again and then I'd still have to think about it. Otherwise, unfortunately I don't usually turn food down...
4. Well, on this point, I'm HOPING to become really good about 2-3 times a week heading to the gym and walking the dogs at least 30 minutes a day- longer if we can. I just am real good at making excuses to not walk the dogs if it's cold, rainy, bad weather of any sorts, or too dark...so now with the gym I have no excuses to not do ANYTHING every day.
5. Yes, I do....although, if I'm only going a few meters, I might not slap it on, but generally I do. Have to be a good role model for the kiddos you know ;-) Plus I was in an accident once where they told me the only reason I was alive was because of my seatbelt. Pretty good inspiration to keep belted up!

2. My Effortless Cardigan--designer Hannah Fettig--knit by moi!!!
3. Can you be a yes and no??!
4. Every single day of my life--I walk at least an hour.
5. Yup!

I had the same favorite of your photos. Just gorgeous!

1. What is one thing that you’re really good at doing? I'd say it's writing, although it feels weird to say that out loud.

2. What piece of clothing makes you feel warm and snuggly the moment you put it on? My favorite fleece sweatshirt.

3. Do you consider yourself to be a ‘picky-eater’? Yes. I still don't like onions, cauliflower, or tomatoes. A little better than when I was a child, but still.

4. How often to you exercise? And what do you do? WHen the weather is warm I try to run every other day. In this weather, I try to run whenever it is above 25 degrees. Then I walk whenever I can fit one in. None of it is enough, I need to lose 15 lbs.

How did I miss this yesterday? A day late, but:

1. My hair (And yes, I know how shallow that sounds)

2. My Uggs. And fleece zip up sweat jacket.

3. Picky? I'd say no since the only things I won't eat are scrapple and cilantro. Together or separately!

4. It is my intention.

5. Absolutely, always.

I love love your photos, the macro shots just make me lean in and feel all better. Thank you for that.

and I've read all of these comments, how cool to see everyone's sameness and difference.

I'll add mine although it's late,

1. Everyone tells me I'm a good cook, which I love to do , and I am realizing that I'm a very good encourager, which is probably more important and I do it because of strong empathy tendencies maybe?

2. I love flannel pj pants and have been know to walk the dog , drive someone to school, and yes, even pump gas in them. ( mostly hidden by my winter coat but still :) )

3. I'm a picky eater in the sense that I am mostly vegetarian, don't like sweets really, don't like shellfish and do mostly gluten free. But I'll cook anything for anyone, see #1, and happily have a ginormous salad and too much cheese and I'll surprise you that I love hot peppers , especially on pasta with good olive oil and fresh basil . Which I can only eat a little of because of the gluten. Sigh.

4.I am a runner/wanna be runner the order flipping constantly . I try to go three times a week, but the treadmill is broke right now, and that's messing with my go to exercise routine. I might have to break down and join a class which I hate, but walking the dog etc is not enough to stop my muffin top from oozing into my pockets.

5.Have never not worn a seatbelt. Strangely, I didn't realize this was an option ? Aside from it being a law here, I just assumed. Who knew?

3. Do you consider yourself to be a ‘picky-eater’?
Nope.

I weave and I walk. Not at the same time. Maybe 3 times a week.

5. Do you use a seatbelt every time you get into a car?
You bet!
