Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore

Returning to work today after two weeks of holiday bliss was not nearly as painful as I thought it would be. The most difficult thing was getting out of bed.

I love our new flannel sheets. And it's so hard leaving them on cold mornings.

I thought I’d share a few more photos of the trip I took to NYC just before Christmas.

We don’t see many of these here at the manor house.

DSC_0046 copy 2

Our table at The Smith, where we had lunch one day. I think this in Greenwich Village. I liked the water bottles and the retro s&p shakers.

DSC_0057 copy 2

Nice-looking guy walking down the street. And I love that wrought iron work.

(and this is my son)

DSC_0102 copy 2

Vintage Range Rover. A rare find!

DSC_0107 copy 2

I remember just standing here and smelling the wonderful scent of these trees.

DSC_0110 copy 2

Love the colors here.

DSC_0113 copy 2

I’m wondering where 207 might be.

(update: there's a park across the street; it's why I was wonderin').

DSC_0216 copy 2

Walking around in Alphabet City, which I kept calling ABC Village, stupid tourist that I am. My son told me that the streets are named A, B, C, and D and are the only avenues in Manhattan that have single letter names. It’s located within the East Village and the Lower East Side, so hopefully you can understand my confusion here.

DSC_0238 copy 2

More confusion over at ABC Home & Carpet, where Margie and I found these lovely little glass bottles filled with magic stars. The little bottles like the one she’s holding were priced at $75. It astounds me that people would pay that much for something so frivolous.

But that’s just me.

DSC_0172 copy 2

And finally, St. Patrick’s Cathedral at night. I can’t believe I almost walked right by it without going on. (Thanks, Margie).

Hope you enjoyed the photos today. Thanks for coming by, my friends . . .

I was thinking, "Ummm, he is cute!" Oh no, it's your son!!!!! Well, he is cute!!!!

I love NYC...through your eyes! I don't know if I will ever go back (it's only been 42 years since I was there...did I say "42 years"?
Yikes!!!

At the local antique stores around here, you can find those bottles all day long. Betcha it would be cute to fill them with lil' hearts with red ribbon for Valentine's Day!!!

Glad you had a 'not so bad' day! May tomorrow be better! Hugs!!!

Oh how I did so very much enjoy the photos! I love NYC & cannot wait to go back. The photo of your son walking down the sidewalk looks like an advertisment for outdoor wear. I want that vintage Range Rover so badly, I'm bursting! And hello?...$75 for a mini-glass bottle?...ummmm, not in a million years!!!!!!

Ha! I was thinking that 207 was over there, too -- but it was a park. So I am thinking that there is no 207.

I love these images... great capture of a great city. That range rover is incredible!! The Cathedral is something, isn't it? I was a bit taken back by all the TV screens tho.

The frivilous bottles..lol.. you know what they say - There's an a** for every seat!

I'd be scared to hold that bottle.

Flying rats .. and #207 would be across the street as one side has even #s and the other odd ... and ahem I think I was the one to point out St Pat's ... just sayin' .. xo

I love Mark's Market, so inviting, but Whoa! The cathedral is truly awesome. Thanks for the tour.

I'm with you. Those little bottles had better be filled with the original Frankenscense and Mir, if they expect me to pay $75 for them.

Hey,

Thanks for sharing this link - but unfortunately it seems to be down? Does anybody here at chroniclesofacountrygirl.blogspot.com have a mirror or another source?

Thanks,

Beautiful shots as always Kate. I feel like I was along for the trip when you post pictures of your adventures! And why didn't we think to bottle magic stars and sell them for $75?!

I hope he's not upset that I posted it. I thought he never read this blog but after opening my Christmas present from him, I found out that he did. It was a beautiful little glass tea pot that's perfect for brewing rooibos tea. I just love him!

No, you definitely weren't in Kansas, but I am. Beautiful photos. Sorry about that "stink bug" incident. I heard there is a huge outbreak of them ( kind of taking the glory away from the bedbug crisis). Love to read and view your posts.

Fabulous Photos! What a great way to capture your journey... in snapshots of the moments like that. (Do you know what kind of magic those bottled stars do?)

Joy said...

On the high priced glass bottle... no, that is not just you. Me too. Besides, a semi-creative person could whip up a facsimile in a matter of moments for next to nothing.

The photos also made a bit sad... a long ago love used to live in NYC and I had plans to run away from home and live with him there. He's passed on and I think about what might have been.
